She was born in 1932 in America then moved to England for college and again in later life.... so I guess her accent perfectly fits how you described her.

Nevertheless your poems have that elusive beauty which pulls the reader back repeatedly. I am curious to know your final days. A beautiful and sad life... Reality of World can be very painful for someone so sensitive. So much extraordinary talent lost forever. Perhaps you have been reincarnated in a better world. We miss you Sylvia ♥️ Grace 💐
Nobody reads a poem like she does, her voice raises the hammer with grace and strikes with the apathetic swiftness and gravity of thunder and lightning

Being a New Englanders, just south of Boston, the New England accent is still strong by those who limit their exposure to media. I will always keep my accent. People should hold onto their accents whether from New England, Mississippi, Texas, etc. In television everyone starts sounding the same.
She was hardly wealthy as a girl, but her mother and dad were both educated and taught at Boston University. Her Smith education parlayed with Cambridge helped create her unique and sophisticated voice. Today almost all Americans sound mainly common. We are taught ( at least sub consciously) to loathe beauty, grace, style and sophistication. We are taught to dress down, look down, talk down ( to each other) act like we all come from the dregs. I experienced the last or tail end of the best times in the USA- when even the lower middle class was able and delighted to carry themselves with class and dignity. We might not have all had money then, but we all had class!! Oh well- Goodnight America!
I agree that at one point certain classes of Americans knew how to behave in public! :) But Plath's reading/interview voice was awful. Had I know her only from this contact with her, I would have tuned out immediately.
I was wondering that, too. Too pretty. Turns out it's a French actress named Barbara Laage. Crazy how many websites talking about Sylvia just copied the image bc it's a pretty picture.
I don't like her writings but she does have a very intresting voice. It's a shame she fell into occult works, and had a sad mind. I wish her life worked out better.
God, her voice is.....amazing
Isn't it? 🌹💜
I wish there was actual video of her speaking. I love her voice, but She doesn't sound like you think she might.
Yea , she has a very strong voice
@@thomasharrell3681 i think exactly the same
Would her accent be considered transatlantic? I’m not so sure…
Writing is the ability to express the every day beauty and story that encapsulates all of humanity......
That's nice, is it a quote, or is it your own?
@@informalliteraryexperiments Thank you. That's my definition of writing. Have a nice weekend.
The old New England accent. This has largely gone away even amongst the wealthier families in that area.
I’m a lifelong New Englander of 37 and I never hear this type of accent that’s vaguely British but just its own.
@@matthewgallant3622hence 'its largely gone away'. It was always a very limited accent for a niche few.
@@MST3Killa Yeah. I read what you wrote. Thanks for clarifying.
Hey @@matthewgallant3622, I think MST3killa is disrespecting you, do you want me to get him?
What a pity! It's s very close to many British accent
I love you, Sylvia, we miss you and your wonderful heart and your beautiful art.
She sounds like someone born in the 30s that moved to London and adopted a UK accent.
well, sounds almost right. she was born in America and moved to the uk later in her life, if i recall rightly
@@kyanwise3632 She lived in England and her husband was the English poet Ted Hughes.
