They clearly did not get intimate. That was the whole crux and payoff of the episode-Picard saw her as a person and not an object. He stayed true to his ethics, and she still bonded to him. That’s what makes this episode so great…that and the holodeck line.
@notraxxful Definitely have to agree, Picard kept it locked down, no matter how tempting it might have been. In my head canon he had the help from his mindmeld from Sarek in addition to his own self discipline.
The biggest problems of Y2K were solved due to many programmers fixing issues and issuing patches. It's like the issue with the hole in the ozone layer... it wasn't just magically not a problem, people came together and solved it!
I remember being late elementary school and watching this eps. I turned to my father and asked how they made Famke look that way…he said, “They just paint on the spots.” I asked about her eyes and face makeup..took him a minute and realized I couldn’t comprehend that she was THAT beautiful and I was assuming it was so,e filming trick. 😂
The actor that played the Ferengi in both this episode and Captains Holiday with Vash will go on to play a major character(who’s also a Ferengi) in Deep Space Nine
I love that yall pick apart the shit I just overlooked in tng that doesn’t make sense. Like the barrel plot with the ferengi so wildly stupid I didn’t even notice 😅
The rough guys at the bar were one of the current Star Fleet Uber customers on board. That's only partially a joke, they're a bunch of miners the Enterprise is transporting (after rescuing them?) IIRC.
Thinking back to my 1st girlfriend. Her and I, our 1st kiss. I remember it feeling high as a kite. We didn't use drugs or anything, but i never felt that way before.
@sararazack idk why but I never knew you had a yt channel probably bc it's not linked to your or Marvin's channel. Lmao. I'm stupid I'm sorry lmaooooooooo
I think instead of saying half betazoids only read feelings and intention it should have just been changed to “half betazoids powers work half the time” since that’s how it is anyway and the writers never escaped the problem of betazoid powers
I really like everything in this video! I was unsure a first, but the breakdown and side discussion was fantastic. Your side conversation about circumcision now has me thinking, nearly everyone in Star Trek is UNCUT. 😅 My mind then wandered into genetic engineering and the real reason they banned it... 😂
As great as this episode was, it really highlighted how poorly served the women were on this show. Somehow there wasn't a single woman on the ship who could hang out with Kamala so she wouldn't have to be alone? She could have been having slumber parties with Keiko talking about marriage, and flexed on Deanna on what it's like to be a real empath. And on top of that, the only female voice from the ship can't stop shitting on her. Beverly has a problem with the way that Kamala's being treated, but can't be bothered to reach out to her about how she's feeling or advocate for any kind of solution. I feel like the Ten Forward scene was a waste of airtime. Data should have known better than to bring the metamorph into a room full of dudes we don't care about. I would have much preferred to see more small interactions like she had with Riker. I want to see Kamala deal with: O'Brien Geordi (will she attracted him by speaking binary?) and Barclay and then decide that she prefers Picard's company. Also, I wonder if not opening another man's gift is something he learned from dealing with Manua.
1. They definitely didn't screw, the whole point seemed to be to show Picard's strength and make the audience sad. I felt like him not answering the wizard was him saying "f you" because he didn't just have a crush on her like her dehumanising people do, he developed a very strong love for her. 2. I wish more people had been weirded out like Beverley was about the situation, although I found it weird that she's concerned but doesn't volunteer herself to keep Kamala company. IRL you'd expect some straight women and maybe gay guys to be put forward (as theoretically safe from Kamala's charms).
I mean, the thing I would most compare that arranged marriage to is conscription into the army. Most societies on the planet just fine to force people, mostly men (the only countries with completely equal conscription are Norway and Sweden, with somewhat equal service in countries like Israel) to just serve in the army if the need arises. That is a massive infriction of personal freedom and in the case of an actual war an enormous infringement on your bodily autonomy, namely if you get wounded or killed. There is probably roughly 0% of people who would agree to just getting blown apart by artillery, not even the volunteers who signed up for whatever reason would ever want that to happen. But we're perfectly fine to force people to do it, even under force of arms and threat of punishment. Desertion is illegal almost everywhere. I'm from Germany, and we have a constitutional right that prevents conscription into the army for people unwilling to serve under arms, but you can still be conscripted to help a potential war effort, like serving as a medic or keeping the important war industries running. As societies, we just deem some things more important than any individual rights and at least defending the society itself is seen as paramount over what most individuals want. E.g. in Ukraine, a majority of soldiers volunteered to defend their home, but they also outlawed any male citizen in conscriptable age from leaving. Most countries on the planet have similiar rules on the book in case of a major war. And don't get me wrong, I joined the army voluntarily when I didn't have to and I agree with that idea, so I'm not exactly criticizing it, just highlighting it. Now, I think bodily autonomy especially if it's about sex is very important. But I'd rather fuck a few thousand ugly dudes than fight in a single war. Is it really immoral to "conscript" a single person to prevent or end a war? Can you really tell whatever thousands of people would die that the sexual autonomy of one person is more important than their right to live? Stuff like this doesn't really come up in our modern politics because marrying elected politicians is pointless and most monarchies don't have real power. But if it would, how many people are ready to die for one person to not having to marry someone they don't care for? Especially since it's probably not a bad life, either. The people marrying have a life of privilege in their respective societies. A lot of people already marry for the wealth and status of their power and if you're in a political marriage with a king or a chancellor like here, you immediately become one of the most important and richest people in the entire country. And yeah, you might not like them, but it's still a pretty easy job for a lot of money and influence, while also saving thousands from dying in a pointless war. Of course there isn't any right or wrong answer, in my opinion. It just really depends on which rights you like most and in the end you might have to agree to some sort of compromise. tl;dr this society doesn't really do anything unique, they just have different opinions on which rights they like to infringe on more. The Federation might totally fight a war for the autonomy of a single person, but they are portrayed as idealistic to a fault. Put it to a vote in the real world and who knows who we would marry off to e.g alien invaders instead of having to fight them.
Since its now officially confirmed what the holodeck is for... who is the poor soul that went through the entore starfleet academy just to end up wiping the loads
Calling it an arranged marriage when describing an arranged date is strange to me. It’s like someone said that they have arranged orange juice for me & then gives me an orange. Sure, I could choose to make orange juice but it's not arranged from the start. It was a suggestion & I now make the choice. What I'm trying to say is that it’s weirdly named in my ears.
Many people were interested in data. Fajo from most toys. The guy from the s1 racist episode. Tasha from naked now. Jenna the temporary gf from s4 ep in theory. I think that's it
You wouldn't think they were nasty looking if circumcision wasn't the norm in America. In the rest of the world uncircumsized looks just fine to our sensibilities. The reason circumcision is so common in America? Because the inventor of cornflakes was a media health influencer who thought it would cure the act of self pleasure he hated. Loved female circumcision well.

The cleanest most efficient way to deal with that is using the transporter to dematerialize any bodily fluids left in the holodeck.
