Tbh the yugo focus tree isn’t that bad, of course some more factories or manpower + new mechanics cd improve it. However the way to go is to create a billion puppets, use their troops to attack your neighbours and then do the focus that makes you annex the European puppets. So it’s quite good in that regard, especially since you are free to invade everybody thanks to that British guarantee. You can’t really play it any other way though, which is a shame
The self-inflicted border gore path is my favorite Yugo path. One of the hilarious things about all the Death or Dishonor trees is none of them lock you out of any ideological advisors, meaning you can do bizarre things like create communist Austria-Hungary or fascist Czechoslovakia leading the Little Entente without any mods.
That cursed Yugoslavia is one of the strongest Yugoslavias ill have you know because of all the free divisions and factories from the basic focus tree!
you should try and do something that ive failed at many times; (with or without modded focus trees) make Long Chile, IE, As chile, control all of the provinces (AND ONLY those provinces) directly bordering the pacific ocean on the West Coast of America from Tierra Del Fuego to the north of alaska. You can make any allies you want along the way and go any ideology you please as long as you personally control all of the states in question.
All of the commonwealth focus trees suck, I'd love to sea that DLC basically completely redone. Could make the pacific enjoyable if india and Australia were redone. Especially Australia, there isn't even a focus about militarily shifting towards the US, which was a pretty important part of Australian strategy during the war
This route is actually amazing because if you swap to Fascist with the quick civil war then you can take puppet Bulgaria and Hungary. Once you do that and you do the focus to "A United Kingdom" focus, you get cores on them as well.
Paradox add a resistance focus tree for Norway, The Netherlands Yugoslavia and Greece. Their resistance movements were very important and in three of the cases the resistance movements overthrew the invaders by themselves
For the engagement… I had a Canada game recently where the Axis put pretty much all their divisions on the Italy front after we invaded them that the Soviets overran them. All the way through they kept tiles on my front line with 13 german and 10 other nation units. I couldn’t push that much but the soviets just walked into Berlin. Bit of a bug there!

If you really want stuff to go crazy, have all countries in the Balkans release as many as possible (Czechia/Slovakia, all the nations in Yugoslavia, Romania releases Transylvania and Moldova) then go into the Greek focus tree and do the focus that gives off-map civ factories for good relations with the Balkan countries.
the biggest problem is they mostly start later 38/39, have no factories, have generic trees, and start with no generals. would be cool if someone moded in from start and gave them all factories and unique trees.
When Battle for the Bosphorus came out, Yugoslavia had this little update to the political tree where you got the option to dissolve Yugoslavia. Which was... interesting, although no one in their right mind would have chosen the option to give independence to the constituents and just play as the tiny Serbia with no industry. They also added the extra path for communism where you incite communist uprisings and create a faction with them, which is okay, I guess. But still, the problem with Yugoslavia is that it's still so bare bones. The political branch basically deals with its internal problems, which is fine, but after that there is not much to do. The most expansion you can get is to claim greater Yugoslavia through Bulgaria and central Macedonia, but you only get claims, not even wargoals. Yugoslavia as kingdom is just waiting for others to do stuff, because every single country around them has specific interactions with Yugoslavia: Italy can demand Dalmatia, Germany can demand Slovenia and then complete annexation, Hungary can demand the north, Bulgaria can incite the VMRO uprising, Romania can demand the dissolution of Yugoslavia, Greece can incite a communist rebelion in Yugoslavia, UK can just straight up declare war on Yugoslavia if Yugoslavia decides to stay neutral. Yugoslavia is not a proactive nation, it's a reactive nation. Which makes it just so boring... There's just so much wasted potential with Yugoslavia. They could have added some la Resistance mechanics to Yugoslavia to deal with the actual things Yugoslavia in WW2 is famous for: the resistance, the choice between the Royalist JVUO or the Communist Partisans, actual choices how much would you like to collaborate with the occupiers. Even further, if you manage to create a multiethnic country as a kingdom, you could have tried to expand your federation. Bulgaria got the focus to create a Balkan Federation. You know, Bulgaria, country hated by basically all of the Balkans at the time, can create a Balkan Federation. Meanwhile, Yugoslavia which can become in game a successful experiment of multiculturalism and religious freedom (guided by the player), can't do that? Yugoslavia which was on friendly terms with Romania and Greece, and has in its name "The land of the South Slavs" to incorporate Bulgaria normall as a core? It's clear that very little was done about Yugoslavia, it's the most bare bones country out of the whole DLC. There is a mod called "Arise Slavs! - Yugoslavia Overhaul" which deals with the issues of Yugoslavia in a much more interesting and believable way: centralization vs decentralization (without butchering your whole country), actual resistance mechanics, actual opportunities for expansion, several kingdom and socialist Yugoslavia paths. The mod is what the absolute basic Yugoslavia should have been. Kaiserreich makes Serbian created Yugoslavia have so many different flavors with unique mechanics, having you make a functioning multi-ethnic and multi-religious country work (or have you fail spectacularly). Calm Before The Storm mod had several developer diaries about Yugoslavia which deal with the intricacies of internal politics and creating a functioning government of Yugoslavia, a country filled with awful, selfish politicians, with several constitutional outcomes (and several rebelions). Which makes it such a shame that current Yugoslavia is extremely boring.
