here in the philippines this model came in 2005. and most people hate it due to steering problems, the steering pump always leaks plus the ride quality is'nt comfortable, because instead of installing coil springs in the rear toyota installed leaf spring. we rather buy the mitsubishi montero sport 3.2 or a toyota prado.
@reviva2003 from what I understand montero and fortuner are entry level SUVs with the Prado being a class higher, along with Pajeros while the Land Cruiser is in an even higher class...
That is not a Lexus RX300, it has a body on frame chassis the Lexus is a unibody chassis and based on the Camry. the Fortuner is base on the IMV platform used for the Hilux and Innova in the world market.
Mitsubishi montero sport is much better.. much comfortable ride, with same engine specs but montero sport is faster than fort,with LSD(limited Disc differential) which gives better offroad response..unfortunately it is not yet available in india..

Prefer Land Cruiser or Land/Range Rover but this is cheap, perfect for asian market.
I mean limited slip differential..
Designed in Australia for overseas market but not for sales here........disappointing
