I recently visited NYC and heard this art... at least I suspected it had to be intentional. But because no one else seemed to notice it, I felt felt kind of weird stopping to hear a noise from below. Thanks for the video. Now I know.
Hearing his installation at SAIC was incredible. They had it in the courtyard where people can sit and have lunch. This video is close but it’s really hard to do it justice. When your surrounded by the sound of where you are plus this work, its really otherworldly. It felt like I was dreaming.
Thanks for this great video and a chance to hear the piece. It's good to know his art lives on after his passing...I used to live within a few blocks of that location but I don't remember knowing about it, I'll be sure to hear it next time I visit the city. I appreciate Dia taking it over, they are a great institution in the city.
nice video, but the Times Square installation is definitely not his only sound installation in America. there's one just an hour and a half away from NYC at Dia Beacon
I do stand corrected. At the time I made this, it was listed on Wiki, as well as the Dia site, as his last remaining sound installation in the U.S. - it is now not.
Why would Sound Pollution be be sought after in a city as full of noise as Manhattan? Aren't we supposed to be saving energy and not just leaving speakers on continuously for no reason?
@@adnamamedia Shouldn't they turn on occasionally come on, having a schedule would save a lot of energy. Or have it set up so when you walk over it it would sense you there or a switch to turn it on. That wouldn't be hard to do . When nobody is there it shouldn't be on. It's literally white noise coming out of a hole in the ground
The even added that sound installation in GTA IV in Star Junction
I only learned that today!
I came here after knowing this is a real world detail which is in gta 4
I know bro
I came here after that video
@@nokori4415 same
i thought it was just the energy noises from the big billboards
Rockstar Games has used this feature in GTA IV's Times Square doppelganger called Star Junction
You watched the same video I did bud
Where can I see the video? Who upload it?
Nah, buddy I have the game and I played it also but I didn't know about this.
@@jojicjojic5953 7 details in GTA4? After this vid I started searching about this Times Square sound

A monotone hum is not art.

He also had a lesser known piece called "American Can" which took place in Staten Island, New York in 1967.
Do you know exactly how the piece works? what materials were put in 1977 and 2002?
Dr Google didn't help one beat.. thank you!
Thanks for this. Isn't there also one of his works at the Dia Beacon?
