You know, all these comments about the evil banks and evil credit cards just make me SMH... Take responsibility for your actions people! Nobody is forcing you into debt. You choose to spend more money than you can afford to. You choose to have to pay that interest. I have a credit card and it is handy to have but I pay it off in full every month because I have personal responsibility and self control.
[Posting in the year 2034] Magnetic strips have come back into fashion again now. The chips they were using _used_ to work well until they had to pass terabytes of data in every transaction, and everyone got jealous of all the Gen X'ers getting their old magstripe cards out and fast-tracking it through the checkouts. 💳💨😋 Trouble is: Now we have a generation of Gen A'ers who've never seen these before, and theirs keep getting wiped because they keep them too close to their phones... 🙃
If you're irresponsible with your finances then yes. There are some cards that have good rebates and cash back benefits if you use them responsibly and pay them off in the shortest amount of time.
4:45 Correction "Chip and Pin technology has been introduced so the credit card companies can get out of paying up when fraud is committed by saying that you must of given your pin to someone." ignoring the fact you can use man in the middle attacks on machines that use chip n pin. Wait so why would cards getting stolen from the factory be an issue? If the bank needs to verify each card at each transaction then wouldn’t it just be a fancy piece of plastic if you took it?
So considering when this episode aired and when this videos was uploaded (2009), it has taken the USA close to a decade to switch to credit cards with chips...
+romanpoet22004 We're behind Europe in nearly every reasonable fashion. Regardless, the chipped cards are unbearable. It adds an average of 2 minutes or more to every purchase from my experiances. I find myself using my card without the chip as much as possible.
Well as an European I can say I get instantaneous purchases withing my own country, but abroad I have to wait about 2 minutes. So I quess USA has pretty bad infrastructure in that area.
Callum Burns For me in the US, When using a card as "credit" (the correct way, as opposed to "debit") there is no adding a PIN #. Just the insertion of the card. 80% of places don't even have their chip readers functional here for the places I frequent (which is all across the northeast). Which is great.
What the hell is wrong with your cards? I am from the UK and I insert my card (5 seconds), enter my PIN (about 5 seconds) and wait for the purchase to be authorised (about 15 seconds).
just asking - is this btw a german video, but re-edited and re-synced with the english voice (i mean there are things like "deutsche bank", "karstadt", "max mustermann")? :DD
True, these companies will not try to help you out of trouble because you're worth more in debt, but you have to assume some personal responsibility and take care of your finances. Credit cards are also one of the best defenses against monetary theft, and it is much more likely that you'll get stolen money back with one than with cash or a debit card.
Well that really depends on what you count as "track". Technically it's possible if you're in a place with lots of RFID readers that the person wanting to track you has access to. In practice I think the average hacker/government agency would just use a person's mobile phone. Easy to find their number, only one system to crack (their network provider) and such tracking is already supported (see wireless enhanced 911 for an example). It's already too late to be worried about being tracked.
yeah.. the security strips and elements are soooo important... have you ever seen any shop or bank actually check them? They just care that you have enough money to pay.
It is pretty interesting when you hear that a hidden center for making credit cards is located in your/my country ... unfortunately, they showed a "house" number of that factory ... ill give it a try and try to find it ...
@azntranc3951 it doesn't matter if you know somebody else's PIN #, it wont work on your card anyways only theirs, you would only be able to know their PIN # if you have their card
i was here expecting to find out how the security measures work in that particular factory employees. in the end of the video, the worker could see anyone's card number and its cvv once the cards process are done
You are thinking too shallow. I actually wanted to know if they are silkscreened on or what not. It seems they are printed in sheets separately, but do they apply it to the card via heat?

@gunfuego then it's a COPY not counterfit. No one copy's an actual creditcard, they skimm it when you use it in a store or at an ATM and the info + you'r pin is saved digitally so that they can transfer money from you'r account to their own or wherever they want via the internet.

The way credit should be used is as a way of spreading out big purchases to match your income. It allows people who sell big items like houses and cars to see that you don't have the money now but you're probably good for it later. However people abuse this and instead buy things that they will not be able to pay off later. Credit card companies are lucrative because many people are bad at managing money.
