Ha! Brings back memories! Decades ago I was homeless, living in the woods for 4-1/2 years. While it was certainly an unhappy existence, one of the bright spots was how the wrens would visit me in my camp. Knowing nothing about these birds, I was amazed how cheeky and bold they were, closely examining me from inches away. The little varmints used to fill my hat with debris while it hung next to my lawn chair. I could never catch them in the act, but would discover their mischief when I grabbed it to head into town. Another fearless visitor was the ovenbird. They would stop in twice a year on their migration. If I sat still, they would often forage on the ground right at my feet. If I moved, they would only retreat a short distance, then get back to work. Once the local wildlife gets used to you being there 24/7, you're not considered a threat anymore. I even had bobcats stroll by a few feet away without even a sideways glance at me.

However, with the way politics, society, and the economy are going, I'm not very optimistic about the younger generation's future prospects. I rescued a male Carolina wren it got caught in a glue trap in my boss's garage. I got it unstuck from the trap but he lost his tail feathers. I called my vet. They wanted to put him to sleep so I decided to let him go in my back yard. And two months later he showed up on my patio with a female. They made a nest on my patio in a bird house. He had three babies wren's.

I absolutely love these friendly little birds! They have such a huge, commanding song coming from such an itty-bitty little bird. They do love filling up on the meal worms and grab their worms in between the Blue Birds, Nuthatch's, Tufted Titmice and Robin's grabbing them up too. The Bluebirds seem to think the mealworms are only there for them and try to run everything else off.

Hahahah oh my gosh, wow! That must have been something. I once had a Blue Jay in my home, in fact, it was Blue. I'll never forget it. I went on to bed the night before and I asked my husband to close the living room window before he went to bed. He forgot, and the next morning I heard some noise. Here was Blue inside trying to get back out but didn't know how to. He must have panicked. I had no idea how I was going to catch him. I just walked up slowly and gently put my hand out. At first, he tried to get away but then ended up in the palm of my outstretched hand. I slowly walked over to the window, he stayed perfectly still the entire time. I put my hand out the window and off he flew. All the other jays including his mate Sweet Girl were outside in the birch trees. What a story he must have told them. So sweet.

They are so clever, cute, and have such adorable personalities. When I was a teenager our Carolina Wrens Jenny (who ate out of my hand!) and her husband Boogity would nest in various items we'd hang up for them. What a super sweet bird! I love wrens!!! I saw a very cheeky tiny bird grabbing big walnuts from the squirrel nut bowl and dodging squirrels then gleefully flying off with his prize. He had this white streak near the eyes, tail up at 45 degrees, slender curved beak that was meant for insects not seeds, and wondered what bird that was. Not a finch with that beak. Looked like a chipping sparrow, but they are more docile and fat beak like all seed eaters. It turned out this was a Bewick's Wren! Bold as brass this tiny thing stealing nuts and ignoring the bird seeds. I love this guy. He hops around hoppity, hop, hop, hop, checks everything out, chirps his songs, and visits me daily. I have to put up nesting boxes. I must keep him around, my little Wren.

I adore their feisty selfs. They're so bold, scolding us for living in the same place they do 😂 I started buying meal worms as a peace offering lol. I have a hilarious picture of one scolding the security camera in mid air 🤣 They also let my son know who's boss when he works on the car, they sit a few feet away when he's laying under the car and give him heck. Very entertaining as they hop around looking for insects, and we have plenty of them here by the river.

And yes, I accidentally trapped one in my garage last year, but thankfully I found him the next day and he was fine. :) And LOL at multiple choices of a house and a side entrance. Sounds like a human couple going house hunting. Once when I was growing up a pair nested in a concrete flower pot we had, dug down about a half inch into the soil, then built a dome over the top. Last year a pair nested in the rafters of my patio. When I'm digging around the yard I leave the insects laying around for the wrens and robins.

I hang my feeders on a wire line and I once noticed one going down the line to inspect each and every feeder in a row (never seen that behavior before from other birds). It also inspected my tiny decorative birdhouse's tiny hole (keep in mind this entire tiny decorative bird house is about the same size of the mentioned Carolina wren visitor.

Wrens bring me so much joy! I've had a pair nest in the same flower pot on my porch for a few years. I leave the pot on a shelf all year, and this winter the pair decided to roost in it at night also. At dusk, the male will call loudly, like "okay, time for us to settle in for the night".

Aw! I think I would gush over the cuteness of a Wren singing that he’s going to roost for the night. 🥰

Wrens are pretty amazing. 3 years ago I forgot to put out the wren bird house, they went into my garden shed through an open window and found the bird house and used it. I got scolded when I opened the door.

These birds are everywhere in the neighborhoods in North Carolina. They have a distinct posture. They sometimes scream very loudly. They used to always build nests in different places in my parent's shed. When I would go into the shed, often a few wrens would frantically fly out, screaming.

About a year ago, I had a busted screen in my window. Only about 4 days later, I noticed a little nest was starting to develop. Found out it was a little Carolina Wren nesting in there with its mate.😂 I just couldn’t kick them out so I just let them nest there all summer. They’re such cute and curious little birds!❤️

I had a pair build a nest in one of my rag boxes in my shop. I reached in for a rag one day and found a nest. I left them alone and I don't know how but they managed to fledge a brood in my shop! I was pretty touched. They didn't seem to mind me a bit and it was a working shop. They never came back there but it was pretty cool having that going on while I was building bicycles, motorcycles and cars and trucks.

My little Carolina Wren, "Homer" tried to nest in my shed but I discouraged him. Instead, I hung up a nest box, which a house wren soon claimed. Poor guy, he sings everyday to attract a mate, but no luck. Meanwhile, Homer moved on. Such is the life of our adorable wrens! Thank you for this informative video.

They are adorable! Here in Sydney Australia we have butcher birds which are a delight - I have one that sits on my kitchen windowsill when I go to the sink and it peers at me and hops along the length of the sill until I feed it a morsel. My husband reckons it's SOOO smart because it's got me well trained LOL. Loved this episode - will have to check out what I've missed. Thanks!!

When I was little my mother stored her dust mop with soft side up in the corner of a largely-enclosed back porch. Of course, that was an invitation to a pair of wrens to build a nest. Mom was unhappy that she had to buy another mop but it was great waiting for the eggs to hatch and then the fledglings to leave.

Wrens seem to enjoy nesting lower than other birds. Every year I'm surprised to see some in my orchard right at or below eye level, where they just sit, looking rather miffed that you found them there.

One nested inside a bag of playground sand inside a shed at our house. The boards on that little shed had some openings big enough for them to enter and return, so no worries. Sweet little birds, with such a beautiful voice. They are my favorites.

I have a coat tree on my backporch and a spare bag of clothes pins i hang on it. A pair of carolina wrens built a nest in the cloth pin bag and have hatched a few babies . Mom and Dad are busy feeding them now

We just had some CW babies leave their nest. The mom and dad worked day and night to feed their babies and it's so sweet how dedicated they are to their young. They made a nest in a basket on my back porch where I kept my pins for my clothesline. Mom and Dad are still hanging around my house because one baby is having a hard time learning to fly. They don't leave that baby's side. It's so heartwarming to see how nuturing they are.

Three years ago, a bird made a nest right on our front step - we had an old wreath there that had gone up ages before for a Christmas long forgotten, and we just never took it down, having no place in the house to store it. But the bird decided it was an acceptable nest and raised a clutch of three or four babies, ignoring us coming and going the entire time. We never knew just what bird though - because we never saw much besides the adult bird's face kind of frowning out at us. Well, and little bitty wide-open mouths during their first few days, since their eyes weren't open. They'd hear us and beg us for food, heh.
BUT - seeing this, I feel like that may have been a Carolina Wren! We do have them, I've heard them, but I'm not yet familiar with how all the birds in my area look other than the biggest and most common ones. If they are the teeny tiny, size of my thumb birds - first off wow they have some pipes, the song is LOUD and very pretty.
But also, what wonder to think that one decided our front step was a good spot for raising a family. (I say one: we never saw a second adult bird, so maybe she lost her mate, but there's no way to be sure)
