I was going to say something about that. Not sure if something was going on that spooked some of them (others i could tell it was a tack issue or uneven ground) but whatever it was seemed to be very consistant in that arena~
All these people that are saying I hope the rider does or never rides again is stupid, not all these are just the riders fault accidents happen and if your that rude I hope you don’t own any horses
What I can't stand is Everytime a horse acts up the blame is always on the horse and the horse gets punished I seen a guy hit his horse across the jaw with his fist the horse hit the ground ( dead serious) all because the horse would not be still for him to climb on it liked to have caused a fight I told him if I ever seen him do it again j would call the law and animal patrol I quit hanging around him after that one thing I do not put up with is aniaml cruelty I don't care if it's at your house or mine lol people want to hit horses and dogs upside the head kick them and everything else not around me they don't I will have the law animal patrol and whoever else on their ass In a minute horses has bad days just like humans do don't we act up when we are in pain of something scares us my fiancee is the example of this of when something scares us or horses see her come across a snake any kind poisonous or not just a old king snake when she does u better move and move quickly cause she will run right through u lol same with a horse
Which I had two horses about nine years ago that would never shy from a snake while riding came across one one-day we were riding the horses walked right over it never flinched or spooked we happened to look down and seen it slithering towards the trees coming from our direction is the only reason we knew we just walked over a snake thank goodness it was just a grey racer non poisonous and not a rattler cause if it would have been a rattler our horses would have probably been bit or worse
Yanking on the reins doesn't help a horse behave. violently kicking a horse doesn't help a rider win. Whipping a horse doesn't help a horse jump higher. What happened to riding for fun? If you do it for the money and a ribbon, you should find a better career.
There's a difference between discipline and what you call "yanking". If you allow things to happen, the horse will begin to think certain behaviours will be allowed. You should only be as harsh as you need to in order to xorrect the horse, nothing more, nothing less.
There is ways to compete and still have fun with your horse. 95% of horse riders who event are awful to their horses, mostly because it was how they were taught and it's really unfortunate. But I did go to one barrel racing camp that did everything nicely. They used hackamores instead of bits because you have to pull more in that sport and if the horse showed discomfort because you were pulling to hard you get warned. If you get warned too many times you'd have to sit out for the day. There was one girl who got bucked off after her horse got bite by another. They checked the girl and then the horse. They didn't know why the mare had started bucking until the girl had stopped crying to tell them so they completely unsaddled the horse to check and make sure she hadn't been pinched or been sore anywhere. they told us horses buck if they're playing or in pain and they rear when they're scared or hurt, so that we should evaluate ourselves before blaming our partner. They only stalled their horses when saddling them up too which I always thought was nice. If a majority of the show world acted like this things would be a lot better.
You've clearly never ridden a barrel horse before, and more than likely, not any horse. When a barrel horse is going to make a turn, they're excited. A decently trained one wants to be in the arena has to be held back coming in. They flip their heads because they don't want to be held back and want to get in there and run. These horses are running their patterns in under 20 seconds, so you have to move your hands quickly to steer them. Clearly, you've never had to stay on for a turn like these horses make, or you would know that you need to sit deep and give them some help with your outside leg. There is not a lot of pressure on the bit when everything goes well. The horses in this video should not have been in that arena because most of them needed a lot more training. That and the footing clearly isn't adequate with the number that are falling. Overall, this was a shitty place to run that day, so until you've ran a perfect and fast pattern, i suggest you take your judgement to different sport. Not all people that ride for fun are kind to their horses either. Believe it or not, it is possible to compete for money and ribbons while also treating your horse with respect and kindness.
@Keriann Sawinski no. I agree with you. I like winning, but I do it more for fun than anything else. Ive just seen what it takes to train and ride a competitive barrel horse, and they're not easy. I used to run one of my horses in a hackamore and one in a snaffle, but as they got more competitive, they got more excitable and started really wanting to go fast, so I had to change headgear to something with a little more leverage so that this pair of mares that can sliding stop would do it before they hit the fence.
I hate how when these riders horses rear, they continue to pull back, which is repeatedly causing their horses to almost fall back on them. If you are a rider, you will know that in that situation, the best thing you can do is hold onto the horses neck, and pull out with the reins, not back. Its a miracle that none of these riders actually got fallen on by their horses. It can be fatal.
The few times it happened to be I pretty much hurled myself into mounts neck trying to force his balance forwards. I didn't actually know what I was "supposed" to do, so thanks. Clearly pulling backwards is not the direction you wanna go there...
I had one that would not ride with a bit just a hackamore then had one that would ride only with a bit it's how they are trained mine would ride with a bit but gonna be slinging his head and stuff and not responding to your cues put a hackamore on him he was all good hackamores can get their attention better to me cause not only are u not abusing their mouth but also a hack pinches down on their nose and gets their attention but not as rough I never jerked on my horses mouth or anything rode loose reined with a little tension and relaxed hands and a calm seat we get into trouble I stayed calm and it seemed to help the horse calm down cause u tense up they smell your fear they are gonna react to you that's my experience with just old trail horses but I'm sure it works the same in all horse riding horses takes patience love and tender care learned everything I know from the best horseman I know right here from small town vardaman Mississippi he used to ride bronc bulls rope and ran barrels and I have seen him take a wild horse that didn't seem to wanna be broke and in 2 months time had a timid rider on them and he never raised his hand or hit the horse just alot of ground work and desensitizing even seen him do it with broke horses that needed to be brought back to more ground work if the problem could be worked out he could do it and he didn't learn from horseman like Clint Anderson and the likes of him his came from years of experience and common sense he always told me I don't work with people with horse problems I work with horses with people problems lol I have seen him do miracles with horses and never showed fear or let the horse sense his fear and never raised his voice he always said u and the horse has to bond and work the kinks out together
Looks like a combination of bad footing and bad training. Bad footing causes a lot of slips. Bad training causes bucking. Occasional slips of the saddle can cause bucking or a fall. Sometimes you get off balance. Sometimes you fall. Shit happens. To all you saying that it's wrong to barrel race, I guess it's wrong to jump and do dressage too because there's just as much slipping and falling yanking when you start to fall off or if the horse acts up, and I've seen way more jumping horses bucking. You guys try to ride horses with neckropes when they're barely ready to ride with a bridle. I've ridden a few of my horses with a neckrope and even ran the barrel pattern with one a few times, but I've never been bucked off and never had the horse bolt because I worked with my horse and didn't try something new until she was ready for it. Western and English are entirely different styles of riding, and until you've tried both, you can't compare them. I haven't ridden english much, but it looks like a lot of fun and I want to try it and learn more about the style. I'd really love to try low level jumping competitions, but the thing that has always turned me off to going is how almost everyone is has been hateful at every show I've gone to watch. At least barrel racers don't give you the side eye for daring to breathe the same air as them.
I am not suscribing or liking. To put that bluntly. Because yes your portraying that we barrel racers fall off, we get injured...Sometimes its just not a good run that day, other times its just the lack of training on the riders behalf. But it is in NO WAY a joke! It is a lifestyle and a JOB for some. Some families do barrel racing to keep a roof over their head and food on the table. Yes it looks dangerous and it can be, but thats like any other sport! So sorry, I get what your trying to get at. But I dont think this should be taken lightly, I lost many family members due to the sport...But for their sake and thier honor I will keep doing what I love because we are all family and I owe them that much.
Every equine sport has thrills and spills videos ... horses are animals with minds of there own and therefore sometimes shit happens. I don't believe the purpose of this video is to condemn the sport in the same way as the ones for eventing and jumping are not condemning those disciplines.
It's fuckin funny when a rider is all up on their horses bit and then gets what they deserve. As a barrel racer I fuckin live for watching shit riders get dumped.
2:00 the horse is like "No mom it's not a barrel it's a freaking lion! Get me outta here!"
I was going to say something about that. Not sure if something was going on that spooked some of them (others i could tell it was a tack issue or uneven ground) but whatever it was seemed to be very consistant in that arena~

st of the first falls were the riders pulling back on the reins
These people need melon protectors lol ( helmets)
One of them I noticed it was the riders issue she lent in to far toward the barrel...
Their horsemanship tells me they're not going to be champions. I did this years ago.
Well thanks for reminding me this song existed?

I am not suppressed if they got hurt because none of them are wearing helmets
Anybody else notice its all at the same place...?

I dont understand why you seem to enjoy makeing these videos
Barrelracewinner so people can see that training a horse by yanking on it's mouth gets them thrown off
This almost happened to me!!!!!
HORRIBLE HORSEMANSHIP. Every rider was to blame.

@@iintrusive_th0t I'm not sure how you ride but if your words reflect how you treat your horse then you give me hope for equine sports.
