Ty is a couple years older than me, but yeah...this is pretty much a caricature of my specific generation. I can't speak for the teens out there right now. In fact, they probably don't care what I have to say...gotta get back to that Facebook/Instagram/Twitter/Tumblr/Snapchat/Pinterest/etc. There's just too many people with too many different agendas. "ignorance is bliss" and it is absolutely true. i get very bad anxiety attacks when im alone and over consuming the world issues, or simply bottled up anger, sadness, frustration from the stagnation and destruction. personally, i go to protests, i sign petitions and share my opinions with others, but yes- many people turn the other way and are busy on their phone with a selfish, mindless agenda. or of course, the most common excuse is theye busy getting a diploma/degree to earn money to buy a bunch of shit you dont need and/or get obnoxiously rich and help no one (and please don't get me wrong, education is fantastic, i love to learn and i always encourage growth for everyone through education or personal teaching, especially for the betterment of others and society- it is absolutely essential to have skills shared, and MANY people use their education for the greater good and i appreciate that, but the construction of the education system is often still a part of the larger political agenda for the masses.. and im sure ty would agree based on his experience with his media studies degree that his parents stressed him to complete) however, i can assure you there are certainly people out here politically aware, and very politically depressed. as ty said, i think it becomes worse as the generations and the time keeps going on because we carry the emotional baggage from these failed movements, and have an idealism of what should be. my heart still lies in the emotions of 60s, and yes we have seen great improvements since then, but some days it is like we are moving backwards. and i cant even say what will happen to myself and thousands- possibly millions, if DAPL is built through sacred lands. and with protesting, (especially with the police state that america and canada has become)- you congregate for a peaceful fight and in turrn, the police make sure youre in put into so much fear to ever do it again, even though (more often than not) the kindness truly is spilling out of everyones hearts. FTP realistically, as ty also said, there are people globally who experience it and possibly in a much worse state, specifically in third world countries. activists are jailed and often times killed for having strong, but progressive opposition to the government or corporations... but this fact alone tears me up even more because i have such great empathy for others. problems in the world get worse every minute. sure, i am not completely jaded- there is always a silver lining, but that doesnt mend the rest of the cracks in human society, the destruction of the earth for greed, the meddling of media for mindlessness, insecurity, lack of creativity and consumerism. so although the sheep are in great quantity and easy to see, there are still mindful, creative youth that go out to care, even young teens. of course the numbers are sadly far less, but they are there and they are fucking pissed, ill tell you that much!!!! and one thing i learned is i will never not be this way- i will never become a numb yuppie. the fight is for life. there is just too much.
