  • www.lds.org/general-conferenc... President Thomas S. Monson - My earnest prayer is that you will have the courage required to refrain from judging others, the courage to be chaste and virtuous, and the courage to stand firm for truth and righteousness.

This kept popping up on my recommended videos, and it is so timely. I've been called to a missionary-related position as a member. On my mission, and in my life in general, I've experienced a lot of pain and heartache from being bullied, criticized unfairly, judged, and condemned by members and non-members alike. I frequently have found myself preemptively judging others despite all this, and need to stop it.
Yet now, in my position in Church, I've faced a lot of the same criticism and judgement, it's nearly broken me. I don't know how to continue, and keep suffering like this, without the courage and strength of the Savior I would never have made it this far in life. I don't want to leave the Church, there is nowhere else for me to go, nowhere else has the words of life or Apostolic or Prophetic Authority of God. Everywhere else in the world seems to believe that God no longer speaks, or is asleep, and has abandoned us.
I don't want to go, or be offended out of the Church. I love the Lord, I don't want to leave Him.

Don’t give up Hope in Him. You may become as Job and have even your very closest friends revile against you. You may even become as the Savior to find Himself in His hardest and darkest moment, only to come back and find His closest disciples not even able to support Him for “one hour”.
The sad reality of this life, is there are times we must stand alone. Alone from others in this world… but NEVER alone from God. It’s actually in this abandonment of all those around me, that I learned to rely on Jesus Christ. Just as you’ve said… I would not have made it this far in a very literal sense, if not for Jesus Christ metaphorically/spiritually hugging me and holding me when all was seemingly lost. He promised “just a little longer”.
And then I grew. I turned my whole heart to Him. Everything else was ripped from me, so it became easy (for lack of choice) to go to Him for every need. What a blessing that’s been. I’ve learned to pray ALWAYS. Every time I start to lose hope… even if it’s been five minutes since my last prayer.. I go back to Him. He re-lifts me and sustains me. Prayer is one of the biggest blessings. Keep going back to Him. Even if you don’t feel it’s working… tell Him that. Pour out your heart and your frustrations and your concerns. He will answer you.
Don’t give up on what clearly makes you happy. Learn to cling to the Joy that Jesus Christ and the Gospel brings. Love others. If you struggle to not judge, throw yourself into their service. Do every hard thing you can to uplift and lighten others’ burdens and you will learn to love them more. Let them mock. Let them revile. All while learning to love them. You will be happy. I promise you that.
