I have two experiences where an audience applauded to the film. one cinema where I watched ‘Elvis (2022)’ was when the film ended and then when, Elvis’ name came up someone at around the back that I was sitting at just shouted: ‘Love you, Elvis’. And by then, the audience around me then applauded and wooed with cheer. I thought it was like a theatrical experience & I never experienced it in a cinema like that before in my life. I thought that was surprising to find something like that to have with the Elvis movie. The other time in a 2nd cinema, after I watched ‘Top Gun: Maverick (2022)’ that day. I then after ended up going into a different screen and seeing ‘Elvis’ again but it got to the end of the film. And the similar same thing then happened, the audience then applauded.
I experienced an audience applauding after a movie once. It was on Curaçao after a screening of Cloud Atlas... Not even during opening weekend. A truly memorable experience.
Even if you hate Gladiator 2 it did create an excuse for another Drunk History episode FINALLY with Jack McBrayer (Kenneth from 30 Rock, GOAT from Conan) plays an emperor and Jerry O'Connell (Sliders, Stand By Me)
If I was in a British cinema and people stood to applause, I'd cringe myself inside out. Who the heck are they applauding? The actors can't hear em.. the directors can't hear em.. the grips, carpenters and not even the runners from the movie can hear em. Just file out the doors like miserable and bored people.. It's the English way.. 🤪
I've always found it an odd thing to applaud a movie at the cinema as it's something we do to show appreciation to performers who are there to hear it and take a bow. I guess it's more of a communal cathartic thing for the audience. And I really don't want to hear anyone else singing except for the onscreen performers unless it's at a specific sing-a-long event. That would be just as annoying to me as a metal bucket filled with M&Ms.

Has Mark not seen the Wicked stage show?
sharks need to swim to breath too
When you said 'it comes up in correspondence later on', what did you mean? You never mentioned it again, is there an extended version of this video?

it is odd. It's the behaviour of attention seekers, imported from America naturally
