His medical records were not kept secret at all. He had his first emergency surgery in 2010 for a twisted bowel, the same thing that killed his twin. Sharing intrauterine conditions, even non identical twins can develop abnormalities like an extra loop of bowel that often may not cause a problem until adulthood. Later in life it twists and can burst as happened with Mo. After the 2010 surgery he developed complications because he was undernourished (malnutrition was one of his admitting diagnoses) in part due to his too strict vegan diet. That should never have been attempted by him with his previously undiagnosed gastrointestinal malformation that had been present since birth. Such a diet does not fit everyone and his abnormality made it very dangerous. Also, he admitted he stopped eating due to the stress of losing Mo. By the time the colorectal cancer was found in the spring of 2011 - not announced until the fall - present in the male side of his family, a grandfather and an uncle, he was already weakened by malnutrition. After the cancer surgery he developed complications of a leak in the bowel requiring even more dangerous surgery considering his already weakened condition. Then pneumonia. Then a coma in April from which he miraculously awoke against immense odds. Basically his body was too weak to handle the heavy duty chemotherapy required for treating his cancer. The cancer went into remission but the toxic and harsh drugs required, metabolized and excreted by the liver and kidneys, put him into renal and hepatic failure which caused his death. The cancer was "cured" or at least in remission but his body by then was too weak to cope with the toxicity of the chemotherapy. Chemotherapy drugs are TOXIC. Because he put off further investigation after his first surgery for fear of what they might find and his diet was very dangerous in his condition, he sealed his own fate. He was his own worst enemy in some ways. I hate the vile "gossip" some have put forward as him having HIV. I cared for HIV patients. My cousin was an MD who ran an AIDS clinic. The only similarity was weight loss also typical of cancer, especially gastro intestinal cancer. He had no Kaposi's skin tumors, quite evident in AIDS. He fathered a healthy child very recently before. The incubation period is up to 10 years and by the mid 90's there were already pharmacological treatments readily available to treat the disease and actually prevent it's transmission. I hope that clarifies the mystery and buries any gossip.
