@@realMAGAcanadian Thank you for posting this video it's very different to see how it was back then compared to now! 20 years later, Tijuana is still a dump and there hasn't been much done to fix poverty or crime, crime still happens and is concentrated in the poorest part of town... however on the bright side great things are happening like loads of skyscrapers, maybe over 20 new projects of those are taking shape, the food scene is being recognized by food vloggers n TV stars like Andrew Zimmern, Mark Wiens, and Anthony Bourdain, a huge public passenger train project is due to start construction anytime, craft beer scene is also getting recognized, new stadium, new megamalls, and tourism rebounding, Amazon, Toyota, Samsung, LG, and more making manufacturing plants here, Americans are coming to our huge medical tourism centers to get cheaper surgeries and doctors appointments... it's been a great 20 years and once again thank you for making this video that demostrates the difference over this time! I went to Tijuana early this year. It is nice to see a drive through in 2001. The way you drive in has completely changed and there is now PedWest. Despite all the shit in the news, I felt safe in TJ and stuck with the touristy spots.
I feel it’s way safer than San Diego. If you are into criminal activities you are better off in the United States. In Mexico if you are a law abiding citizen Mexico is safer.
on this exact year me and my family left tj to the east coast of the u.s, such a different environment i felt like a piece of me stayed in tj roaming happily ever after in the bliss of desert towns, oh how i missed those divine childhood moments of no rules, violence or discrepancy.
Amazing! I don't remember how downtown TJ was back then (I was 11-12 years old). It has changed a lot! I just remember that it was a place filled with curios and drugstores for tourists. People don't visit as often as they did 10 years ago due to insecurity but it made that area to develop its own personality and now we have an awesome nightlife and cultural scene. Don't be afraid to visit, just make friends with locals and you'll be fine.
10-4, that was in Dec 2001, no HD camera at that time and obviously no HD TH-cam as well. Here is a 2011 border crossing from Brownsville, TX to Matamoros, MX and back to USA: th-cam.com/video/6EF4C6cl-P4/w-d-xo.html Last year I drove the entire Texas - Mexico border from El Paso to east of Brownsville, stopped at major border crossings but never dared going to other side of Rio Grande, reason: TOO DANGEROUS plus I do not speak Spanish at all also white caucasian with a brand new vehicle, too risky for just a day of exploring Mexico. Be safe and enjoy the summer.
Nice video, Chris, how did it feel to drive the first time ever in Mexico? As I also said in your newer MX videos: Apparently Mexicans nearly only drive American vehicles. Have a great day Michael
Whoa. Looks like pretty scary to drive over there. Poorly road condition, a lot of red light runners that could t-bone you so bad. I'm at almost halfway now, and had to pause and made this comment. ... ... ... I just watched all the way. That was incredible to watch. Thanks for sharing! I thought my hometown has the worse road, until I watched this video... I can't complain anymore! Also, it'll be pointless for me to make a dashcam video about bad drivers LOL!

Forget about Canada to Matamoros or Tijuana, compared to what you are thinking about my trip with the video is just a walk in the park, personally I would never drive pass the ~20 mile buffer zone also called the tourist zone to go deeper into Mexico, why? 1) I don't speak Spanish, do you? 2) You'll have to pay a lot to leave that particular buffer zone, insurance, roads plus lots of paperwork 3) Last but not least, do you dearly cherish being ALIVE? If you don't, have a great drive to MX City.
I want to make some comments, being myself a mexican border city resident: 1. Mexican border residents are allowed to buy and drive cheap second hand american (and in some cases, canadian) cars up to 5 years old. That's why you see lot of old cars in every mexican border city. South of the border region, the cars are not so old and they are mexican made. 2. Yes, the driving rules are bad here. But not as worst as in asian countries or Russia. 3. It's your decission if you don't want to drive to southern Mexico. But I have seen many canadian cars in highways or towns in southern Mexico. I bet these people didn't have a bad review of Mexico. 4. There are millions of mexicans illegals in the USA, because they want our cheap workforce. 5. (Edited 2021). Resuming: You had a bad (miss)conception about Mexico or south of the border in general. I don't know if you still have it so. Saludos (Greetings). Jesus, Mexicali Mexico.

No idea if life (roads, cars, buildings, ppl, traffic conditions) has changed since then, very poor place compared to life in CDA or USA. Tijuana is the westernmostpoint of the entire US-MX border, and here you see the easternmostpoint of the very same border: /watch?v=6EF4C6cl-P4 Btwn them lots of other "famous" border crossings, El Paso/Ciudad de Juarez the one you're so lucky to come back alive from. CDN (any province) car insurance policy do not cover driving in MX, so you're on your own!

1) That video was shot TWELVE (12) years ago 2) For Canadians and Americans as well, driving to MX is a pretty exotic experience, the only way you can witness first hand how a totally different (Spanish) culture and ppl exist in real life. 3) Nobody has anything against MX ppl living in MX, unfortunately MX is the source of 11+ Million illegals in USA, that's why the curiosity to see where those illegals come from. That's it and nothing else. Merry Christmas PS See my recent video crossing the border from Brownsville, TX to Matamoros.
what's the difference between "illegal" immigrants and documented immigrants? do you realize that its the legal ones coming into the country and taking a substantial amount of jobs that citizens aren't taking? or that citizens don't have the smarts to acquire? they're the ones filling up the sciences, military and government jobs. go to your local post office and take a look at who is working there, county jails, who are the medical staff there, and then go to McDonalds and take a look at who is serving you your McCafe and big macs, are any of them illegal? No!!! now go to the freeway offramp and see who is asking for money? at major intersections. look under the bridges near your downtown, who is there living in tents "homeless"???? quit bitching about those people coming into the country in search of opportunity. 500 years ago and now, why do people emigrate and leave their countries? are they looking for opportunities? the ones the natural citizens have all the rights to but refuse to take advantage of, they are documented, they speak the language, they are healthy and in some cases overweight. immigrants in general come in search of opportunity and send their money home OVERSEAS stunting the local economy cause that earned cash is not staying to create demand. Illegals get Exploited and can't defend their human rights out of fear to go on the radar and be deported. They're the reason your apples cost 79 cents/lb and not 5.00 each. And don't get me started cause I have lots of facts that people choose to ignore or are too selfish to recognize.
Very old American cars, all those cabbies you see in the video, I think from the '70s, most of the cars around very old (for that time of course) too and in very bad shape, in total a very poor place, Michael, and when you think MX has got so much money from their OIL exports, what you see in the video is like living in a 3rd world country.
