In Chicago I remember hearing about what happened to him. This was before cell phones and a lot of internet it was all word of mouth. People talked like he was a mythical basketball God. Seeing his highlights now I definitely think if he went to the nba he would have been a top 5 player for a decade. He made Garnett look like raef lafrentz
I heard more of Ronnie Fields than Kevin Garnett back in the day. What happened to him was just as bad as what happened to another HS legend Ben Wilson (in terms of what could've been).
had a chance to play against him in high school summer league, back in 1995. He was a beast. He was quick, powerful and very effective in open court. He just did not have anyone (at that time) to compare him to. Hold on, he was called Baby Jordan :)
Im glad i grew up in the 90’s, i use to watch him and KG dominate all the schools back then, yall thought zion had a HS followin, it wasnt even comparable to Ronnie n KG
people dont realize the 360 windmill at 3:52 was the first play of the second half that game..he laid EVERYTHING up in the first half and was getting booed haha dude had an unbelievable ability of playing to the crowd and it's too bad the rest of the world outside of Chicago didn't get to see him play
nujrz4lyfe I agree. I was a freshman in high school when him and KG played together. Probably one of the best duel to ever play together in high school. I believe he was ahead of his time , was D Rose, Westbrook, and Ja Morant all rolled into one. I believe he would’ve changed the nba then into more of a point guard league at that. He was definitely must see tv as a high schooler. If he didn’t get into that accident and get in legal trouble, no doubt in my mind he goes to the league and maybe takes the league by storm . People wanted to see him just as much as we wanted to see Lebron in high school. If we would’ve had social media at that time he would’ve been just as well known as Lebron . He was in some sense because he played with KG, but he could’ve been a lot bigger. Very sad story.
I remember wanting to drive to the city, just to see Ronnie play....Yeah, he might've had a few bad breaks. That still doesn't take away from him being the legend that he is. Far as the negative comments.....Go to hell!!
federico buffa,an italian jounalist, talks about him in his book "black jesus"....that's an incredible man...what a talent...we have to talk about him more
Oh snap I totally forgot about this cat! He was so wicked! I remember seeing all this footage, when the internet was new and fresh.. when footage was REALLY hard to come by.. Ronnie was the man! 8 games = 39 dunks.. are you kidding me?! :P Nice 360-windmill on the break!
he's the he would have been the best player to ever come out of Chicago if he didnt get that motorcycle accident I remember watching him when I was a kid
That dunk at the 1:45 mark is insane. There ain't many guys in the league today that can do that (none at 6'2") and this is a 16-17 yr old kid 30 yrs ago. Crazy natural ability. It'd be scary to see what he would look like with the advances in training, nutrition, etc. Easy 45" vertical just rolling out of bed.
@TheRealJohnnyGuns He's been playing in leagues around the world, the last few years. He's still young doing his thang, and he's in great shape, from what I've been told. Still dunking.
Yeah remember all the hype between Ronnie Fields. Many says that he was able to throw down a 720 dunk. Needless to say he was a wonderful basketball player who didn't had luck in his life, due to this accident. It reminds me a bit Dajuan Wagner and Jay Williams.
I remember him he played here in the Phillipines back in the late 90's the TV announcers said he was famous because he was Kevin Garnetts teamate he was pretty good back then but nothing compared to the highlights in this video
6'2 ? He looks like 6'4 at least, his jumping ability was amazing. It's a shame with the car accident because he looked NBA material. It's great that he continued despite the injury, very determined.
I own and have seen "Rebound" many times. You know that movie is "based" on a true story and not all fact. The stories about Ronnie are all true since they all backed by video evidence.
Here's my opinion on what if athletes: people always think that if for example Ben Wilson, was never killed he would've been an nba superstar. Nobody knows he would've been an nba superstar because it never happened. I'm not saying benji would've done bad, I respect benji. But all I'm saying Is that nobody knows if legends like earl manigault, Len bias, Ben Wilson, or Ronnie fields would've been superstars. Some of them could've done it some of them could've been a bust. Again respect them.
annoys the crap out of me when players like this say they never work out their legs, when I have to workout hard to even stay above 30". Watching the video of Jordan talking about increasing his vertical was just comical
I don't think he would have made it to the nba...he was 6'1 but wasn't a point guard...and he wasn't a good enough shooter to be a two. There is some truth that he should have hit the books...Ronnie admits that himself. But the accident definitely made matters worse. His story is that of many Chicago hoop phenoms...don't put your all of your eggs in one basket.
He needs a ESPN 30 for 30 doc
PAC 4 L I agree. He deserves a 30 for 30. They had done some on guys with lesser talent.
Ronnie Fields is a legend n he will always be one:)

No it's not , Benji lost his life.
had a chance to play against him in high school summer league, back in 1995. He was a beast. He was quick, powerful and very effective in open court. He just did not have anyone (at that time) to compare him to. Hold on, he was called Baby Jordan :)
what high school you go to I went to DeLaSalle
Im glad i grew up in the 90’s, i use to watch him and KG dominate all the schools back then, yall thought zion had a HS followin, it wasnt even comparable to Ronnie n KG
Six million ways to fly-the homestretch. is the song name at 1:20
people dont realize the 360 windmill at 3:52 was the first play of the second half that game..he laid EVERYTHING up in the first half and was getting booed haha dude had an unbelievable ability of playing to the crowd and it's too bad the rest of the world outside of Chicago didn't get to see him play
RF was DRose and Westbrook before they became themselves...That's no exaggeration at all
nujrz4lyfe I agree. I was a freshman in high school when him and KG played together. Probably one of the best duel to ever play together in high school. Rose and Westbrook are better players
To those wondering, the beat at the latter portion of the vid is from The Homestretch: Six Million Ways To Fly. Gem without a doubt.
A BEAST!
I remember wanting to drive to the city, just to see Ronnie play....Yeah, he might've had a few bad breaks. That still doesn't take away from him being the legend that he is. Far as the negative comments.....Go to hell!!

Oh snap I totally forgot about this cat! He was so wicked! I remember seeing all this footage, when the internet was new and fresh.. when footage was REALLY hard to come by.. Ronnie was the man! 8 games = 39 dunks.. are you kidding me?! :P
Nice 360-windmill on the break!
@weaverb1227 dam bro so he got in to a car accident and his neck broke? that sucks.
Wow he even dunks like Jordan too that's amazing 10/5
I just saw Ronnie Fields an hour ago at the gym. Looks good and carrying his basketball with him.
The movie "Rebound" was about Earl. Great movie I highley recommend it...
diggin the "Saw" movie intro song lol
Can I use some of your film for my channel?
Just a correction for the producer:
Earl "The GOAT" Manigault is the most famous and arguably the best player never to make it to the League
he's the he would have been the best player to ever come out of Chicago if he didnt get that motorcycle accident I remember watching him when I was a kid
Not quite guy , he's up there in top 5.
A couple years ago they ranked the greatest Chicago High School players of all time He was was number one. Followed by KG.
sick SAW music in the intro!
Can't believe I just heard of this guy

@TheRealJohnnyGuns
He's been playing in leagues around the world, the last few years. He's still young doing his thang, and he's in great shape, from what I've been told. Still dunking.

Yeah remember all the hype between Ronnie Fields.

lo vi el año pasado en venezuela en la lnb y conserva su salto intacto
i'm talking about a 2-foot, no-step vert. A lot less players have that kind of lift
Demetrius Hook Bell, I think that's his name...I seen his documentary a while ago on NBATV.
1:44 was sick.

6'2 ? He looks like 6'4 at least, his jumping ability was amazing. It's a shame with the car accident because he looked NBA material. It's great that he continued despite the injury, very determined.
Awesome player!
He got hops.
Did he said he works on it or not?
John Wall +Stephen Curry + Russell Westbrook + Avery Bradley = Ronnie Fields
Demetrius Hook Bell I think...I seen his documentary on NBATV..
Now al we got is some weeklings and a weak sire who is a legend in his own mind
So what happen to this dude? ive never heard of him before in my life till now.
He was derick Rose before Derick Rose lol.... sad .. How one incident can change a life.. I
if he was in 2k11 they would have him a 100 vertical
2:37..........Goat tend!
He was better than KG in High school and we see what he went on to be.
That Ronnie makes him talk and sound like Ronnie Coleman!!!!!!!!!
2:37 is such a goaltend lol

@uhhh24 yeaa but you know all of us did that before, it was just an unfortunate circumstance what happen to him
He reminds me of (a shorter) Shawn Kemp more so than Jordan.
I own and have seen "Rebound" many times. You know that movie is "based" on a true story and not all fact. The stories about Ronnie are all true since they all backed by video evidence.

Second Coming- Juelz Santana
