WARNING TO ANY BUYERS: Be advised that the Chemical School was there, as well. Back in '82, after having completed 4x4 training in the M151A2 trucks, a few men from our platoon were tasked with clearing brush. They were hospitalized after large blisters appeared on their arms and torsos. They had been exposed to a persistent chemical warfare blister agent. I also heard from a fellow MP that he had been exposed to a nerve agent at Ft. McClellan. Whether that one is an exaggeration; I do not know; but I personally saw the blisters on the guys after they returned from the hospital. It's no joke. It seems this stuff was taken up in the foliage or remained in the soil. This would be a good thing for a buyer to know. Another huge issue is associated with polluted drinking water, which I think was one of the reasons for shuttering the fort. Many stationed there developed adverse health effects. I woke up one day vomiting blood - body temperature over 104 degrees - and was also hospitalized for a few days.

I can’t believe there are still people who say that Fort McClellan isn’t “toxic”. It is like the one girl in 10 who didn’t get pregnant after being promiscuous for years saying “Well I didn’t get pregnant so that means anyone who did get pregnant is lying”. Sorry for the analysis but the ignorance is getting to be a little too much.

I finished OSUT in 1985 at age 20. Six months later my strange health issues began. Rated 70%/100% p&t by my late 30's. I'm convinced it's a toxic base. There's too many of us for them to open a registry, or they'll wait until most of us are dead.

Congrats to you on your 70. I was deemed permanent and total from Social Security but no luck VA. It takes everything I make to keep me this side of the green. The permanent party vets don't make any such claims. FYI, there is no such title as "Massive Federal Cleanup site". @@Staticjumper you have incorrect information. The troops who are more sensitive or got more exposure to whatever chemicals that pollute Fort McClellan, are the ones who were sickened. The illnesses are real, and thousands are affected (or are dead). They conducted a massive environmental cleanup of Ft. Mac. There's never been a registry for the sick military members, probably because Congress knows how that went with Camp Lejeune; the cost to the government was staggering. Is McClellan more toxic than Lejeune?
The PACT Act only "requires the VA to conduct an epidemiological study on the health trends of veterans who served at Fort McClellan at any time during the period beginning January 1, 1935, and ending May 20, 1999."
