  • Shree Kalatheeswarar Temple ( Uthamapalayam).
The Kalahasthi of south - The Kalahastiswamy Temple is a Hindu temple located in the town of Uthamapalayam in Theni district of Tamil Nadu, India. Dedicated to the god Shiva, the temple is believed to have been constructed by three warring kings who came to a compromise. The temple has paintings dating to the Madurai Nayak period.
Uthamapalayam Kalatheeswarar temple: Shri Kalatheeswarar temple is situated in the heart of Uttamapalayam town, which is around 31 Kms from Theni. This area was once under the control of a local chieftain called Uttappa Konadama Naicken and from his time, this place came to be called Uttamapalayam. There are the well known Panchabootha Sthalams for the five elements like Kanchipuram, Kalahasti, Tiruvanaikoil etc. In this area, this temple is considered Vayu ( air) Kshetra. The temple is around 300 years old.
This is one of the rare temples with separate shrines for Rahu and Ketu. From the name of the Lord, one could guess that this Kshetram has some connections with the well known Sri Kalahasti in AP. In both the places, the Lord is Kalahastheeswarar. Both are Vayu Kshetrams and people offer special prayers in both the places for placating Rahu-Ketu. Hence this temple is also known as Then Kalahasti ( Southern Kalahasti). #kalatheeswarar #gnanambikai #uthamapalayam
