39 Week Pregnancy Update ⎮⎮ Preparing my Body for Labor

  • Hello all! So officially entering the end of my pregnancy! Where has the time gone? It feels like I've been pregnant for forever but also like it's flown by. Anyone else know the feeling? Today's video is all about what I'm doing to help prep my body for labor. Like with anything in a TH-cam video, please consult with your OB/midwife before doing anything to prep your body. But in general exercise and nourishing your body and mind is a great way to get things ready. Whether you do all the things or none of the things, your baby will come!
    I also answer some questions from instagram on my plans for the birth, birthing with my colleagues, and any anxiety I am currently facing.
    Check out my instagram for more labor updates!

    I did all of those things to help my labor along and I also took Evening Primrose Oil at 34 wks... I ended up going into labor at 36wks. My son was born within 5hrs... he was my second child but there was 12yrs in between them so I didn't expect him to come so quickly. I ended up giving birth naturally because there was no time to receive the epidural, what an amazing experience! He was healthy and I was able to get up and around right after giving birth. It was seriously an incredible experience! ♡

    I had a sweep with my first nothing happened. I did it again at 39 weeks with my second and within 15 minutes of it started contracting regular at home and had my baby the next day. It worked amazing as I went home relaxed and when I was ready went to hospital and had her with in 3 hours. Lovely labour xx wish you all the best of luck. Xx

    39 weeks today :) first baby. She's still pretty comfy in there , cervix is not dilated but OB said we have some good thinning out happening plus head down so there is that. Really just trying to stay patient and be ok with possibly getting induced if I go past my due date. Just started eating dates to help my cervix out, ordered some red Raspberry tea so will be starting that. And YES, I completely relate to when you talked about that "nesting" sense not so much wanting to get stuff done around the house but more so feeling like if I don't do it now it will never get done. The motivation just hasn't been there this last week or so , it's hard.

    I am 38w3day with baby number 2. I’ve had my cervix checked at 37w(2cm dilated) and 38w(3cm dilated) but I decided not to get my cervix checked at my 39 weeks appointment because my first baby arrived at 39w2day. Getting my cervix checked just caused me to be over anxious and have more discomfort then I was already having since my uterus is tilted back. I’m staying positive and trusting my body to do it’s thing. I am also going to be trying a water birth. I wanted to try one my first pregnancy but being a first time mom, I let everyone else’s advice take over my desires…not this time. I’m much stronger and know what I want.

    • @Nurse_zabe
      @Nurse_zabe  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I love that you know what you want! I totally caved (due to my own nosiness, but practice is so chill about cervical exams) and I’m still 2cm. Which of course it totally fine!

    22 weeks so far everything is going smooth and standard. Other than the little lady did not want to participate in her ultrasound and kept her face hidden so I will go for a second in a few weeks!! I think our bodies are amazing and staying positive is the key. I had an anterior placenta with #3 she was born op and with a hand presentation (which I already knew she had because I had only been feeling one hand/arm for weeks) labor and pushing was just a little longer. Your Instagram info this week has been amazing even for this well birthed mama.

    My due date is on June 2nd with my third baby. First was born 8 days past her due date and weighed 9lbs 1oz, second was born 7 days early and weighed 7lbs 1 oz. First one I started off right away with really intense contractions but labour was 17 1/2 hours from first contraction to birth. Second one my water broke early and they gave me the lowest amount of pit and from my water breaking to birth was 6 hours. So my husband and I have absolutely NO idea what to expect this time around.. I've also been drinking quite a lot of red raspberry leaf tea, usually 3 cups a day. Drank a lot of it at the end of my second pregnancy.

    I am 26 weeks today with my rainbow baby #2, only thing I have had trepidation with during this one is the whole pressure to breastfeed. I had traumatic failure despite major intervention and pumping(I detest pumping, it caused rage in me) for 6 weeks, I failed to produce even a drop of colostrum. It caused me so much anxiety and depression that with this one I have made the hard decision to just use the same formula I did with my first which I am so grateful for and know what a healthy happy baby it grew. for my own sanity and recovery it's just off the table. If some miraculous event occurs and I produce milk I will maybe attempt some nursing but it will not be exclusive. prayers everything goes well and wonderful and you decided on the perfect name!

    I find The epidural/failure question upsetting. I’ve never understood why women shame themselves or others for wanting pain relief. We don’t do that with other painful situations. Pop a midol for period cramps and no one gives you side eye for that. If you have a natural birth that’s great. If you needed/wanted an epidural that’s great too. No woman should be made to feel like a failure for birthing a child!

    • @cosmic1920
      @cosmic1920 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I know! Right? My mom worked in labor and delivery and said many c sections were avoided because of pain relief being used. She seen cases of womens cervixes closing up because they were tensing up. Also, lamaze breathing doesn't take the pain away.

      No one should feel shame but midol doesn't have negative effects on baby and mom like some interventions do. There is no reason to feel shame for any option but don't question why some people are willing to go through the pain (not suffering, as Nurse Zabe says) to avoid side effects

    You have my sincere, heartfelt wishes for a smooth, easy birth and positive PP mental health 🥰! I also hope that this newest little one is an intuitive nurser and things go easier in that respect. I didn't EP, but I worked full-time as a medic on 12-hour shifts with each of my three babies and pumped for all of them for at least a year. Although I was thankful that I could produce enough pumping for when I was away from them, I really did not enjoy pumping. I'd get what I called "pumping blues" pretty much every time. I didn't experience that feeling when I nursed, only when pumping. My oldest was pretty much a reverse cycle babe and if my shifts had been shorter I might have gotten away with pumping a lot less. My middle had bad GERD which our ped wouldn't medicate bc she "maintained her weight curve" 🤬. She did that by drinking almost 2x what a baby at that age would normally take (bc she vomited so much up), and by near constant nursing when I was not at work. I think my body thought I had twins! The youngest was a pretty smooth, uncomplicated nursing experience. Third babies are the chill ones!

    I am so glad to hear you say that pushing the baby out was intense. I've watched so many borth blogs and everyone says labor is bad and they feel relief during the actual delivery. I had epidurals with my 1st 2 deliveries and the last 4 I haven't recieved any pain medication and I can labor all day no problem but the actual delivery is what I hate the most. I always push to get that baby out in 1 single push bc it's just intense and I don't want it to take any longer than it has to. I have never tore or needed stitches so I'm not worried about that. I'm currently 14 weeks with baby #7 and I'm really considering an epidural this time. I'm planning to labor without it so I can move and walk and work with my contractions and I'd like to get the epidural right before transition so I have it for the pushing part. I'm going to deliver at a new hospital this time and at my very first midwi6appt I asked what kind of epidural they have. If it went in a box and was constantly pushing in the medication I 100% wouldn't get it. But they have the kind with a button so I can get the initial dose of medication when the anesthesiologist places the epidural and then I'll never push the button. That's the kind I had with my first and I really liked it bc I could still move my legs and I felt tightening when i had a contraction and i knew how to push and it was great. My 2nd i had the kind in the box and i hated it. I couldn't move at all and i couldn't tell if i was pushing or pushing in the correct place (not my face). I also had a lot of pain in my legs as the feeling was coming back. It was terrible and I absolutely hated it. That's why I went without for the next 4. The epidural was worse than the labor and delivery.
