Perfect timing! We are doing capital gains harvesting starting this year and I have been trying to find a good video to show my husband, to help him understand. This video was super informative. Thank you.
Great video. About ACA healthcare example, I am not convinced that gain harvesting is worth there. She will pay $300 per month, or 3600 per year if nothing happen. Otherwise she may end up paying several thousands more before deductibles are met. I have a similar situation and not sure what to prioritize - capital gain harvesting or health care cost.
@@eugenedvorkin217 Thank you! Tax gain harvesting is often only prioritized when income is too low to receive the Premium Tax Credit or when needing to diversify an over-concentrated stock position. I agree that tax gain harvesting may not have been worth it in the last example if she didn't have the urgent need to diversify.
Excellent Info... Thanks for the wonderful details !! Couple of days before, IRS revised 2025 Tax brackets and Standard Deduction & request you to consider these changes in your next use case video. ❤
Would you provide a similar analysis regarding the taxation of social security benefits? When I search online about it, I find contradictory information. Thanks.
@@timdelp3861 Depreciation recapture is included in income and taxed at ordinary tax rates (the chart on the left side) but with a maximum 25% tax rate (vs. maximum 37% tax rate for other ordinary income). So, depreciation recapture included in taxable income could be taxed at 10%, 12%, 22%, 24%, and/or 25%.
very interesting!! thanks for the insights
Thank you for sharing this video! They should teach it in schools!
Great video share, thank you for this!

How would depreciation recapture impact any of this when the capital gains involve the sale of real estate?
