The "A" is for auto allowing the chip to set the brakes. You didnt even get to the secondary adjustments inside for type of line. I hate saying this, but read the damn directions. 😂😂😂
@@lojofishing well then you did proper throwing them to the side. Atleast I now know that we as subscribers need to be your guiding light and show you the way. 😁
@@lojofishing I have the Scorpion dc which is 1 step down from yours ( 300) which has all the directions in Japanese. So people saying read the directions must Be Japanese. You actually rocked it for not knowing how to set it up. Once you learn how to set it up you'll love it even more. There is a second setting inside the left side for mono, braid, flouro,....you rocked it so apparently not that big of a deal. The low drag is the downfall as you stated. Great video as always....
Hey Lojo, dc stands for digital control, it's kind of awesome, it measures the spools rotation about 1000 times per second ( it's the dc unit, that makes the sound, kinda like a sort of computer) , to help get the perfect cast, also, this kind of technologie makes it possible to cast without the use of your thumb to slow the spool
The Drag is not a issue with Shimano. In fact I would say that over 11 lbs is completely unnecessary for bass fishing. All the companies marketing for how much lb of drag they have is kinda BS(more pressure on the internal of the reel causes more wear), when what really matters is the smoothest of drag. Shimano has the smoothest drag hands down with Diawa coming close. Also treat the Shimano metanium a little bit better then other reels due to its gears issues. Shimano aluminum rmicro modules gears seem to wear faster then there brass counter part, but the aldebaran doesn’t have he problem due to not having micro gears. You can put brass gears, however, clean and maintain the reel if you plan on putting a lot pressure such as frog fishing...I know because I have the metanium DC as-well and it needed to be sent in for service half way through the year. This is why the new metanium has brass gears now.
From what I've heard, that low max drag really makes a difference on break-off's on 8+lb fish. Its kind of a second safety net behind heavy line for the big ones!
the point of the DC reels is that they throw fewer backlashes when set properly. They have the slx dc at $189 and the Carado de at $249 both of which are awesome reels that have the digitally controlled spools. The braking systems are not as refined in those reels and they have fewer subset settings, but they are still terrific reels at a much better price point. I think the longer you own the Metanium the more happier you'll be.
I grew up bass fishing but occasionally fished for snook and tarpon in brackish water. I ended up working on commercial and charter fishing boats and that's when I really started to dive into reel specs and drag capacity and max drag. I've changed out drag washers on many saltwater reels on the boats. On the party boat I worked on, we had 3/0 & 4/0s used everyday and they're spooled with 50lb mono and relatively tight drag by googans(weekend warriors and those who think they know what they're doing) lol. As for all my freshwater reels, mainly shimano, I've only had one or two reels serviced and drag replaced. Just remember as a rule of thumb, you shouldn't put more than 30% of drag on the line you're using. 25% is recommended but I do push upwards of 30 or even 40%. But 30lb line, 10lbs of drag. If the reel only has an 11lb capability, 10 lbs of drag is close to it's max and will burn your drag washers faster when fish make long runs(not a huge concern with bass fishing since a 20ft run isn't very far). How to check your drag, attach scale directly to a bench or table that won't move, attach line to scale, then point the rod straight at the scale and pull back slowly and adjust until you get the percentage you want. Bass fishing is much different bc you tend to horse them up with a tight drag and they usually don't make a long run unless using ultralight tackle. Sorry for the long and late comment but hope this helps some of you guys that read this in the future 👍
Yea im tired of youtubers pushing there sponsors on the viewers every rod out there can break very easily there is no unbreakable rods all can get nocks in graphite and break but hands down shimano has the best reels out diawa makes sone reels that are just as good but the quality is 2nd to none
Sherry Williams yeah as far as reels go Shimano and Daiwa will always be the top , Shimano especially with casting reels , big name reel companies don’t always make great rods like Lews and Abu , they make worth owning bang for your buck stuff. But if you want to spend money on rods you go to a company that only makes rods , i.e- Dobyns, G Loomis. St Croix, Powell, Megabass, Lamiglass to name a few but yeah Shimano is that rare company that does both great especially now that they own Loomis 🤷🏼♂️
That’s a beautiful reel. Shimano makes baitcasters with built in electronics that are well over a grand. Glad to see you doing colabs with Andrew!! Another one of my favorite channels. #lojofam #riversteward #goonies #sallys

my first baitcast reel was a Shimano and my best friend talked me into exchanging it for a Diawa Mag Force first reel with a magnetic braking system. It's 40 years since and it still works like new. Tight lines, C-Ya
i WANT THAT REEL!! At 9:00 you were looking for a way of explaining "ability of casting it far effortlessly" the technical term for that is "casting a country mile" I think of if i had saved all my money from all my fishing rigs I have bought over the last couple of years, i could have this reel. Damb I wish,,,,, ok I won't buy anything for years and then I'm getting that cool reel. I'm joking around,,,, love the video 👍

I am sure you knew that DC stands for Digitally controlled. I have the SLX I think which is 189 bucks and it works beautifully. That sound is the digital control.
I just got a hold of the SLX XT and it is truly an amazing reel. It doesn't have that sweet buzzing sound of a DC reel, but it performs extremely well. I am a Lews guy, but after watching so many videos on the SLX I had to get one.
I spent $190 on my Shimano SLX DC. Best fishing investment i’ve made. It handles huge pike, bass, you name it. Can cast really light lures like the ned rig with it, makes pitching easy. It’s hard going back to conventional braking once you get a DC reel
Ooooohhhh, I love that reel!!!! I can only dream of having something that expensive. Lojo, I do believe you're going to fall in love with that reel. I know I would. You should be throwing a Chatterbait on that bad boy!!! That's sweeeeeet!!!! 11# of drag is not bad. My Abu Garcia has 17# but it don't have a chip in it like that one does. That's the future of baitcasters!!! Low number drag like that may be a sweeter than you know. You need to take it to Lake Guntersville & really put it to the test. There's some line stretchers there. I agree with you, I wouldn't pay that much for that particular reel but I do like it alot. I read about it last year but I can't phathom the thought of owning one. Love the video.👊👊. Keep em coming.
Love my curados really considering ordering a dc you can just feel how well built shimano are in hand have some lews,13 over $200 awesome reels but you cant beat the feel of a curado just solid reels
Timothy Wehrman I don’t need to go check out reel test.... the numbers are NOT for line types... inside the reel is where you adjust line type... the outside numbers are for the strength of dc braking that goes with your lures weight. Higher the number... the more braking
The numbers are for different line types for the reel and the a is for automatic . The chip inside the reel checks the spool speed 100x per second so, depending on the wind it will know how fast or slow the reel will need to go.
A is for Auto mode. I use it most of the time but higher the number the more brakes you have but if you take the side plate off there's a another Knob you can turn for fluorocarbon.braids. or nylon mono
11 pounds of drag has never been an issue until someone made it an issue.... I'm 51 and have had a Citica 200D and two 200CI's which I still fish one and have a Curado E7 (Still fishing) and a Cruxis ( haven't thrown away for some reason) and I cant tell you the max drag. It wasn't a problem at any of the tournament's either.
DC stands for digital control. Basically there’s a computer chip inside that controls the brakes to prevent backlash. I know as a man we tend to toss out the instructions right away but if you read your little booklet that came in the box, you’ll probably know exactly what the dial settings mean. Or ask Jon B.
That is the most awesome sound from a reel EVER. ( sounds like a reel with a supercharger). It'd be cool to see you fish with a big saltwater rod and reel on a pond or multi-species adventure. (can you catch bluegill on saltwater gear?) Most expensive are nice but, most of us have real jobs and budgets to stay within. Maybe a series on "best bassin' bang on a buck" (REALLY get into what makes rods, reels, and baits better than others and don't break the bank)
The tension knob is supposed to be set to where the side to side movement of the spool is gone and that’s it to get the max performance out of the reel also in side the side plate there are three options f for floro pe for braid and N for mono.
I would to see more how-to video’s! I’m still new to bass fishing & using baitcasters , wanna see a video by you of how to pitch&flip and how to pick a good spot where to fish when exploring new fishing spots such as lakes and ponds (for bank angler) .. sorry for such long comment btw. My biggest issue is going to a pond/lake and not knowing where to throw and what to throw. I have enough knowledge to get by but wanna be better
I hope you have a wonderful day and hope you catch more fish love your vids so much come home go fishing then come home from fishing and watch you the rest of the day. 😆😆😆😆😁😄😃😀
Open the reel and choose your line type (there are 3 settings (Nylon,Fluorocarbon and braid)on the inside computer chip break). The A is your Auto mode, 1 for heavier stuff, 2 for medium sized baits, 3 for light baits and 4 for the really really light stuff. When you dial in this badboy correctly, you can cast great distances with out any thumbing during the cast...just stop the bait, when it hits the water. Best reel I ever fished ✌
Hey bro!!.. I gotta say I love the vids! 2 things...it’s cool that you were previously army infantry, and that it looks like you’re in AL. I was a combat medic in the army and I currently live near Fort Rucker. I hope I see you out and about some time. Tight lines brother!
I own about 25 reels all shimano and I've never had one issue with the drag. In fish 10 to 20 tournaments a year. They really are built to last. Keep up the good work bud.
I'd love to see you review it's little brother (SLX DC) at the price point of $189.99... that price seems a little better than what you paid for that FREAKIN BEAST of a reel! Thanks for the review my dude. 🤟🎣🤟
The Shimano Metanium DC XG RES PECT !!!! Good video Lojo and Ayo. The first thing I thought of is what I thought I would feel like paying $500 for a baitcast reel and backwashing beyond all human recognition!!! lol
Not sure if anyone else has said, but dc is for the digital chip inside the reel. All shimano reels with dc beside the name will have it. It just helps increase casting distances and reduce the amount of backlash you can get. Great reels. If you wanna try a higher dollar reel than that, check out the shimano Antares
The drag is under rated and I’ve never had my drag go out, I’ve thrown 65 lb braid on my cursor dc with a frog and not had any issues what so ever. 11 lbs is plenty
DC means Digital Control. For brake. Not like usual magnetic and centrifugal brakes. Makes you cast with less backlash. Try cast without thumb. You'll feel better.
Cool video. Your stepping into high end shimano gear now LoJo. Good, you will be hanging up your Lews toys soon. Also, invest in high end gear because it will help your fishing game. I wouldn't worry about dumping big money on reels just to make a 10 minute video. At the end of the day it all catches fish. IMO
I felt bad when I just bought a Quantum ACCURIST PT S3. Regularly $99.00 got it for $83.00. On line at Wal-Mart. But $500.00 for a baitcaster reel. Just the reel! No rod! Wow! JUST would never buy a reel for $500.00. It can't be worth it. Maybe if it was Gold plated 24 carat gold. Shawn.
The thing with shimano reels r they cast very far n feel very smooth when u reel/crank it becuz of the high quality bearings but they lack a good strong drag n you cannot spool a lot of line on them becuz of their low amount of line capacity.
Ive got a scorpion dc, love it. Effortless casting and super far. Dc is way easier to use if set up right. Tighten the spool tension knob until the spool has no side to side play. Then you could start on A, which is auto. 1-5 are just more brakes applied. 5 being the tightest no way to backlash and 1 being for the pros who still use a thumb. But you should not have to use your thumb at all
Who wants more MOST EXPENSIVE vids???

I own about 25 reels all shimano and I've never had one issue with the drag. In fish 10 to 20 tournaments a year. They really are built to last. Keep up the good work bud.
Nice
Set the line type on the inside then use the outside to adjust. A is for auto it allows it to set the brake on its own after a throw or two
I'd love to see you review it's little brother (SLX DC) at the price point of $189.99... that price seems a little better than what you paid for that FREAKIN BEAST of a reel!
Thanks for the review my dude.
🤟🎣🤟
I'd like to see you try that Walmart lews bait cast combo
Cowboy Bob the orange one for like 90 bucks?
@@fof_fishing1468 yea
Cowboy Bob i have it I haven’t fished with it for a while but it’s pretty good
I have one too I just figured since he's more versed in the lews high end I wanted to see how it compared
Also, nice vid lojo! Love watching these videos
That's the most amazing sound. Did u have or make a video for bigginers how to use different baits and how they work and use them
Can I send you a rod spooling station? 😂 you need one in that truck of yours man.
love the Coors light in the bed of the truck
The drag is under rated and I’ve never had my drag go out, I’ve thrown 65 lb braid on my cursor dc with a frog and not had any issues what so ever. 11 lbs is plenty
Should do a pond clean up video 😁
Definitely want to see the deep sea bass fishing lol
Jon b will disagree this is the most expensive reel 😂😂
and I agree with that
Lol
Theres antreas, exsence, cacutta, and the cheapest SLX dc
He bought that gold bait caster a while back that was $1000 lol
@@bugkilgore i think he got that from the JDM market tho, not on amazon
Lojo, how about CENTERPIN fishing for bass? ;) haha
DC means Digital Control. For brake. Not like usual magnetic and centrifugal brakes. Makes you cast with less backlash. Try cast without thumb. You'll feel better.
A is for automatic and inside the side plate there is another selector for the type of line you are throwing.. so u can really dial it in.
Man I'm enjoying watching your videos 👆🏽 from Croatia with love 🇭🇷👊🏽 Keep up the great work 👏🏼💪🏽🎣
Keep up the work brother loves your videos lojo keep up the work
I taught my wife on the shimano curado dc needless to say she took over it! I rarely get to use it!!
Can never go wrong with a shimano. Sometimes bad experiences with a brand make them hate it but always gotta try to get the full experience.
Really enjoying your videos!
What kind of pliers are you using. Love that they have a tethered point.
Shawn.
it definitely isn't worth it, but to me it just makes fishing even more fun
Looking for new reels 💯💯👍 Thanks for your review Lojo 👍💯 Good video
The thing with shimano reels r they cast very far n feel very smooth when u reel/crank it becuz of the high quality bearings but they lack a good strong drag n you cannot spool a lot of line on them becuz of their low amount of line capacity.
😂😂
Ive got a scorpion dc, love it. Effortless casting and super far. Dc is way easier to use if set up right.
Tighten the spool tension knob until the spool has no side to side play. Then you could start on A, which is auto. 1-5 are just more brakes applied. 5 being the tightest no way to backlash and 1 being for the pros who still use a thumb. But you should not have to use your thumb at all
