    On this episode of Weekenderlander, I go out with John Lovell (Warrior Poety Society) and his wife on a little camping trip. John recently learned the word 'Overlanding' - so that's kinda what we're doing, but really just driving down an easy dirt road and doing some car camping. On this weekenderlading trip I jump across a river, land wrong, and roll/sprain my ankle really bad. Also, we all just have a rad time camping and hanging out. Hope you enjoy!

    They were C-130s military cargo planes, also used for weather in some places. The airforce flies them into the eyes of hurricanes through the storm walls to gather readings and measure how strong the storm is, they are old but still pretty awesome.

    • @blulight1170
      @blulight1170 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The two aircraft were air tankers used to fight wild fires. They drop fire retardant along the fire lines to slow the fire. Here in the West they are life savers and the crews are incredible. The area you were in must have been a huge fire.

    I landed on a guy's foot rebounding in a basketball game. Rolled it 90 degrees. My ankle turned purple and swelled to the size of a softball by the time I hopped over to the Emergency Room, which was literally across the street from the gym. Doc said bad sprains can be worse than breaks, just like you said. Was in a cast from the knee down for weeks and it wanted to turn if I looked at a crack in the sidewalk for what seemed like forever. Hope you didn't rip yours as badly. Maybe they have better treatments today. (I won't say how long ago I did this, but you weren't around). Get well soon.

    LLOD& Warrior Poet = win. I commented on your last edc post asking what if any med your carry as a prepared person. This video leaves me with the same questions a basic kit would for weekending would have a ace bandage and some chemical ice packs to deal with a basic injury. Lots of good options out there work that into your channel

    Haven’t seen an update on the foot, but good on you for seeing the doc. Had one friend fall 23 inches on to concrete ( on his feet). Fit athletic dude figured it was just a sprain but two surgeries later and having to ride a knee bike on light duty around the station for a couple of months cured him of the “let’s wait and see” bug. Got the nickname “scooter” after that. This was 5 years ago and the name still stands. Like the channel tons , you remind me of a friend I had when I lived there ( though he is likely old enough to be your pop). Keep up the awesome work!

    Great Vid.....hope my comments don't drag out too far. I have been a big fan of Johns channel for a couple years. Cool to see him in my backyard. Been playing out there in P.N.F. for 22 years. Welcome to "the hood Warrior Poets". Glad you didn't get too jacked up. Makes you think though......if it was a bad break, just what an ordeal that would become out there. As well as living in the area.....I am one of your local NFFD medics. Hope we never have to meet that way. I did a transport from that area last week. Just over 90 minutes and 60.5 miles to the nearest trauma center by ground. Probably a 45 minute response just to get out to that spot. Golden hour GONE. Medivac an option depending on injury and weather.
    -----Cool to catch the C-130 flyovers. They play a lot, low flying in the area. It's a regular sight. #1 always gets your attention.....then #2 and sometimes 3 & 4 will catch you by surprise. I catch a lot of flyovers in the Pine Valley from my house. They will come through below the ridgeline. Very cool. Good to see how deep the creeks are flowing this year. So green for mid summer, and awesome we can have campfires. The drone footage is way cool. Love seeing that perspective of the area. We're so spoiled to live here.
    ----- Heal Fast !...... Shoot Straight......Keep The Wind At Your Back......Peace~Out from P.G.

    Hey, as to pounding stakes into the ground, information gleaned from land surveying, get a an old rail-road spike, leave in your truck - along with at least a 3 lb. hammer, the spike is used as a “starter” for the hole for the stake. If your driving the stake to hold something, don’t drive the spike all the way down.

    Great friends, great fun! I love Colorado and own a small parcel in the southwest corner. That will be my base camp and will overland from there. Not many car campers think about it but those small shovels are often crucial in survival situations, especially in the winter snowstorms. I keep one of those breakdown shovel kits in my Jeep, one that has multi functions. I don't know if you've done a survival gear video for overlanders but I would love to see one from you.

    Several years ago I was helping my uncle dig a hole to find a buried fitting and as I twisted right to left I felt this warm tearing sensation from my pelvis to my neck. Doctor said I pulled all the ligaments in my back.
    The sound I heard was like ripping a cloth or t-shirt in half. Wasn't pleasant.
    Since then my back's never been the same. Can go out at any moment. I'm a heavy guy and I know that doesn't help by adding that extra strain.
    Just gotta be careful I guess.

  • @hunterrock3272

    Those hub style tents are used by hunters a lot. We call them ground blinds, all camo'd out, quick and easy to setup. But you'd better use all (8) the stakes when in the open and not deep into brush. Those 4 corner stakes wont hold it when the wind kicks up. I've had mine end up in an apple tree or blown 100 yards away in the hay field. Not what you want find in the early am for hunting!

    Awesome to see you hanging out with John and the Mrs., sorry to hear about your ankle though. So what's the verdict? Broken, not broken?

    • @LastLineOfDefense
      @LastLineOfDefense  5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Need to do some more testing - but xray showed no fracture, just a really, really bad sprain, which is actually worse than if I had just fractured it. I also may have something up with some muscle connection in my achilles - need to do a follow up ultrasound this week.

      @@LastLineOfDefense , Speaking from experience [it's true a sprain is actually much worse], I went through 2 years of recovery w/ surgery and im still not going to be 100% ever!.. The terms used for my ankle roll was 90-100% complete ATFL tear, with nerve decompression from scar tissue that replaced some of my fascia around the muscle above the ankle... Good luck with recovery, do everything the PT clinic advises. Fort Collins surgeon ID'd the scar tissue after a year of pain...

    When weekenderlanding becomes gimperlanding... =( Thanks for soldiering through and making the video, man. Great to see you and John doing a collab video. Great first throw with that Cold Steel shovel. I gotta try that throwing challenge at their next parking lot sale; maybe, even get one especially if they're selling them at a discounted price. Anyway, "it ain't an adventure until something goes wrong", right? I pray you heal well in good time, bro.

    Mike,the blood pooling by your heel indicates a fracture.There is not much they can do except soft cast and crutches-but that’s better than a sprain which could take far longer to heal.
    Love your channel and Lovell’s too.RLTW!

    • @irishdefense77
      @irishdefense77 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Last Line Of Defense ugh,I’m sorry to hear this.It’s a bad sprain to have blood pooling in the heel.Take it easy while healing-please try not to go too hard too fast or it can get worse.I busted my ankle last year in a fight with a suspect,and didn’t even know it until we had him in the hospital-then the pain hit.A sprain is always worse than a fracture-which only took me about 3-4 weeks to heal.
