Yes, people don't seem to realize that 350k is life changing money. If you dump that in the stock market, that is an almost guaranteed retirement in 15-20 years. It is a fully paid for house with a fully funded college fund. It is legitimately enough money to set you up for a much easier life even if you still need to work.

You aren't thinking about the time value of money. 300k in the stock market for 20 years is 2.5 million dollars (based on historical average market returns) with 0 extra added. That is a massive amount of your life and future income freed up to enjoy life. There are middle grounds in these decisions, it isn't all extremes. Money is a tool, not a solution. The simple truth is that people want to work, they just don't want a job. If you have 300k, that is freedom to chase your dream. If you don't find some purpose, you will get bored very quickly.

Love the spontaneous interruption for the Lacrimosa; that is just class! When I watched the video the first time, I did the same thing. Mozart wrote the first few bars of the vocals and sketches for the instruments, but it was Franz Süssmayr who completed the orchestration (and the requiem, for that matter, Mozart had only completed the Introitus but had written some of the vocals for the movements up to and including the Domine Jesu). I suppose you know all that. The requiem was one of the first pieces I learned in my youth and was a catalyst for my becoming a musicologist/historian (among other things). I really like your explosive commentary, sometimes it is just really random. Thanks for the video.
To answer Ludwig's calorie question, if you have a calorie deficit, your body will break down body tissue to make up the difference. This is most commonly in the form of burning fat, since fat is an energy store. However, in a continuous calorie deficit, your body will attempt to lower your calorie needs by breaking down things like muscle, thus lowering the calorie deficit. This is why you also lose muscle after a sustained diet. However, the way you discourage your body from breaking down muscle is to use it, this is why working out while on a diet is extremely, it prevents muscle loss along with the fat loss. But, if you kept your calorie deficit indefinitely, your body will eventually run out of stored calories and you will eventually die of starvation.

it was insane to me he didn’t come home when she asked him to. she’s probably not sleeping at all, the kids are definitely losing relationship with hase, and absolutely his wife is recovering from birth. it’s such a gruesome thing for our bodies to go through. i would not blame her if she was a little bit irritated with him for staying twice the length she asked him to stay lol, especially when she’s healing and taking care of a toddler and a newborn. i’d be irritated.
People in chat saying she's wrong are only doing so because its the most logical. If you're making that much money and already have 150k guaranteed, she could've just hired a babysitter. Its selfish and illogical to waste such a once in a lifetime opportunity, especially since its a new born child, would you rather miss the rest of the kids life working or miss 1 year.
@griffin1182 I don't think you guys realize just how expensive childcare is, especially if you need basically a live in nanny. With that, the guys and their families don't get any of the money until after everything is done, so how exactly should his wife pay for a live in nanny? Idk how people are saying that spending way longer away from your family for the financial security would benefit you and let you spend more time with them. If this was a highly experienced scout or someone who is experienced in the forest with no family problems with a friend. This would genuinely be a great high paying job.
Ludwig does have a point about early bonding because, I grew up living in a metal sheeting house because both sides of our grandparents isn't financially stable enough to fund my parents. My mom have her pretty good saloon shop going on while my dad works for different jobs. Needless to say I had no one raising me. Only my aunt or my mom side's grandma. It is not until one day my mom decided to give up on her business just to take care of me. And that have taken a huge affect one me psychologically even though i barely remember any of these moments since i was a few years old. But growing up even after my dad has found a stable job the relationship between my aunt, my grandma just feels much closer than my mother or my dad. It is not until I was 17 is when my father finally decided to properly bond with us. Of couse for what has happened when I was a baby it has drastically altered my bonding with my father. He is trying his best to do everything to bond with me and my brother but it takes waaaaaay longer and alot of drama just to do so. I know now we're more than financially stable but the feeling of the father bond just isn't the same. It feels less closer. it's just me and my brother's experience tho.
Honestly, knowing that there’d be no chance of me dying, I’d do this without the money. I’ll admit, I don’t know much about survival, but I absolutely love nature, especially in the forest. It’s very different, but the cottage I rent for a week every year is pretty much the closest I get since it’s with my family and cousins, with the latter half not really being extremely outdoorsy people, and they’re really the only reason why I can go. I’ve went actual proper camping when I was really young in a place McCrea Lake, where we actually had to take a canoe and a bunch of backpacks a good distance into pretty much isolation. Though, I don’t know how long I’d last considering a damn raccoon managed to open a bear proof food barrel and stole our beef jerky. We honestly thought it was a bear and my dad went to go see it while holding a fish fillet knife. After being terrified, we laughed it off, then realized we lost our homemade beef jerky, and we weren’t too happy after that lol
by spending time in the woods and getting 5k every day, you save time in the future. If you were to make 50k a year you would miss tons of time by working but staying 10 days in the woods also earns you 50k and you save lots of time.

Not to mention that 350k is legitimately a life changing amount of money. That is a house fully paid for and a college fund for the children pre funded (assuming it is invested). Alternatively, it is a fully pre funded early retirement as 350k will easily be 2.5 million in 20 years based on average market returns. Yes, you still need to work. Staying away from your kid for ONE YEAR to earn a million after taxes each or leave early have to work full time away from your kid 40hours a week their whole life pick one
I feel like most people don’t understand that there can be various positions. Being a parent and looking to spend time with a child is very motivating. If you were unemployed or making minimum wage, of course you would try to survive as long as possible. If you were upper middle class making 150k+ per year and can afford everything you want, what is the point of making more money if you can figure it out by working normally? If you like your job and it has good hours, it’s perfectly fine in your life. Also it’s hard camping out in wilderness. So if there is a strong pull back to society, certainly people in that position would want to return.

Idk, I still think that was stupid and wife didnt help him. Yeah its easy to say that she needs him now, but wtf are those 300k after taxes? 200k? if he gets 40k a year this is 5 years on his life working. With this logic if he stays there for 6m in woods he would get money for 20 years at least. 20 years he can work half of his usual working time and live well. stay 6m in woods or work for 20 years 40h a week, yeah "hard" choice
just got to the part where they got to see their family and i had the same thought and wanted to come to see what other though. spending that much time away from your family would suck but the amount of freedom and time it would/could give you after is easier tenfold
Respectfully I have to disagree, yes it sucks to not be with your newborn kid for a few months but making 35k a week (5k a day for 7 days) will get you so much more time with that child in the long run than if you worked a normal 40hr a week job for ~$600 a week. Like, I make 50k a year. If I stayed for just 6 months, my share would be 900k. 6 months to make what I would’ve made in 18 YEARS. Now I can spend the other 17 years and 6 months with my child instead of working 40hrs a week for 18 years. Like honestly anyone who goes home early I think is making the selfish decision and not actually looking out for their kid’s future
I think the context missing is knowing how much Hase normally makes in his regular job, but assuming he can comfortably raise his two children with a wife (who may or may not be working) I don't think he's financially unstable. I think with that in mind getting 300k for roughly two months of not being home is already more than enough to set up their family's future for years, what is staying longer going to do other than just having more? Now if Hase was broke and financially struggling I definitely think he would have grinded it out for way longer.

Not gonna lie it's crazy how much better edited this could have been. If MrBeast didn't have the style and audience with no attention span this could be a great series where you could really get to know these guys and learn how they accomplished everything. Alas we get one less than 30 minute long video
But you have to realize that this type of editing and viewership/ viewer retention is the only way that it is possible to make such a high stakes experience for the two dudes. I agree it would have been cool to watch a full series on them, but it just doesn’t work that way
A year off my life for a million dollars? The ability to never work again? My ass is staying in the woods. I'll have a happy next couple of decades ahead of me.
You think you're never working again off a million dollars? 🤣🤣🤣

Do they pick people with new born kids on purpose to make them leave faster or is it just coincidental every time?
They make sure that the contestants have something to lose eg family

Everyone in chat who said the wife was wrong for wanting her husband to come home, have obviously never taken care of kids. They're exhausting, not to mention one is an infant, and another is a toddler, its not like they're teenagers that can be mostly self sufficient. The wife is also likely still recovering from giving birth too
it was insane to me he didn’t come home when she asked him to. she’s probably not sleeping at all, the kids are definitely losing relationship with hase, and absolutely his wife is recovering from birth. it’s such a gruesome thing for our bodies to go through. i would not blame her if she was a little bit irritated with him for staying twice the length she asked him to stay lol, especially when she’s healing and taking care of a toddler and a newborn. i’d be irritated.
Then how about... you know. Just hire help? Since the husband is making bank?? hire 10 people if you want. Just don't ruin this.
@griffin1182 I don't think you guys realize just how expensive childcare is, especially if you need basically a live in nanny. With that, the guys and their families don't get any of the money until after everything is done, so how exactly should his wife pay for a live in nanny? Also we don't know their financial situation, but considering they weren't receiving any money from Hase at the moment, his wife likely needed to work while he was participating in this video. Idk how people are saying that spending way longer away from your family for the financial security would benefit you and let you spend more time with them. At a point you have to realize this is a mother handling 2 children all alone and her perspective could easily shift to "hes spending all this time away when im struggling with the kids just for a bit more money" which could easily ruin a relationship forever and lead to a divorce down the line and all of a sudden boom, never get to see your kids again. Anyone with children and a wife would understand especially when they say they want you home, anyone who doesn't get it doesn't have either of those things and is probably under the age of 25

I'm happy Lud is giving the right message. As you grow up you realize money is never as important as family and health. What's the point of having money if you're alone and sad?
If this was a highly experienced scout or someone who is experienced in the forest with no family problems with a friend. This would genuinely be a great high paying job.
Absolutely love the frame edits when the video is paused and Ludwig is talking. Very nice!
Oh feck. Didn't expect to shed a tear. That flair shot was so emotional.
