They could have sold a matching cake pan suitable for a mix, and bypassed the entire fresh cake problem. They might have even ended up with a baking mix partnership
Hey that is a fantastic idea. But these owners were really complicating their lives.
Now THAT is a good idea. Give Betty Crocker a call
They have the classic problem many entrepreneurs have:
"Overthink, undersell"
A kit would've been much smarter, along with a local bakery if they want fresh cakes.
Yes! Great idea!
Kevin just eating cake casually with a birthday hat at a business meeting😂😂😂 lol!
Kevin my fav ❤
I think if they want to get into selling the stand with actual cakes they should partner with bakeries instead.
Sikhona mfethu
same thought
It would have been a good deal for Mr. Wonderful if he could partner a bakery with them.
Exactly what I was thinking!!!
This is exactly what came to my mind. You sell these to bakeries. Trying to sell these with the cake yourself is so greedy and it comes with so many problems. Bakeries are in that line of service anyway, they are good at what they do, partner with them...
Barbra: “ what a lovely idea, it can really make a child smile and spread love. For those reasons I’m out”
😂😂😂😂😂
😂
Does she always wear that same shirt?
@@glenncurley680 lol I was thinking the same thing.
I'm glad Mark exposed the fallacy that the "customer is always right"
If I am the customer I am always right raaaaaah
But if I had a business other people are not right
The original saying is "The customer is already right in matters of taste," which is a very different meaning than just "the customer is always right."
And even then that's an old school way of talking because it just shuts down critical thinking. Most people should not be saying what flavors a restaurant should have the chicken tender kids would turn the world into a giant Denny's @@jameslynch2399
customer " i want this for free!"
employee" cant do that!"
customer" customers always right!!!"
Cuban is a Kamala shill now.
2024 Surprise Cake revenue currently is $1-2 million annually with a net worth of $3.5 million. Follow your dreams
How much profit do they make tho? They could even be in the red for all you know cause the net worth could be over-stock they are paying out in warehouse fee that could be huge since they need refrigeration now.
@@FerintoshFarmsPhotography Good questions
@@FerintoshFarmsPhotographyprobably couple hundred thousand. My friend had 2 mill similar business where he sells pet related item and has about 20% profit margin
@@FerintoshFarmsPhotographylet’s hope they took the advice to take care of their bottom line and are actually more profitable now
Only because it was on this show
*gift pops out* "it's ozempic!"

😂😂😂 gold
Haha
Or some insulin 🤔
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂💀
Definitely agree selling the cake with it is bad, maybe a cake mold instead with the middle hollowed out
Yes, my thoughts exactly…a cake pan or mold.
They could sell kits that include a cake pan, insert pop up thing, cake mix, decorating stuff. 3 different kits ranging from very simple to deluxe. Boom. License it.
It's been around for centuries already, it's called a bunt cake pan or angel food cake pan.
@@lucky1utrue but people pay for convenience plus they can make it reusable
Consider current business and net worth.
Barbara: “could you straighten out your birthday hat its deiving me crazy” .. damon: 🥴 “i wear my hat how i want” 😂
Barbara: And bc Damon won’t straighten his party hat, I’m OUT!
To be fair to Barbara, it was bothering me too 😂😂
@@LunaShimmyDiva😂😂😂😂
If they just sold the cake stand and gift capsules seperately without making the cakes, I am sure it would have gained traction.
But then ppl would have to learn how to bake around the thing so it really goes both ways
Barbara-“ I’m old and don’t want anymore birthdays, for that reason IM OUT!”😂😂😂
Going here alone whether anyone wants them or not, is the best advertisement ever…I looked them up and they are worth millions now…don’t ever stop chasing your dreams 🎉pop the cake 🍰
"listening to your customers is overrated"💀
Stuff only a billionaire can say, I am sure he listened to his customers very carefully in his early days.
Customers will absolutely tell you what they want. Doesn’t mean it’ll be practical but it’s what they want.
It IS overrated
The real surprise cake is lori and barbara’s faces each episode
"Kevin Run" @3:17
😂
Possibly the best example I've ever seen of solving a problem that doesn't exist.
Huh? Who said it was a problem?
Just like coke cola... Look how much that's worth, your comment makes no sense
When did this show mention that they have people on to solve problems that exist or don't?
They’re selling fun! I’d definitely see this in the bday and celebration stores!
Yeah, whatever happened to those nice ladies who hopped outta cakes? Couldn't they deliver the gifts, I mean while they're already hiding in cakes anyways...
Boy had it been funny had barberas suprise been a sign saying "IM OUT"
When Daymon told Kevin to run 🤣🤣🤣
Was just wondering why?
Nothing funny about the line ... one bit !
I agree with Mark, Customers are sometimes right 😂
Barbara with Daymonds hat driving her crazy 😂😂😂
Thank you for being the only one I’ve seen to spell Daymond’s name right.
I’ve always thought making a reusable product can run you right out of business. Some ideas here about adding cake pans, licensing etc were good. The company Crocs had problems years ago because the things never wear out! 😂
Products should be made high quality and the price should reflect that.
They should partner with bakeries, have cake molds added for an extra charge and licensing Disney etc and make bank
6:43 this has to be one of the funniest shark "arguments" of all time
Especially since they both remain totally serious.
Barbara: "You have a winner on your hand. You have a successful company, I'm out" 7:08
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
She had a perfectly valid reason for going out that you skipped
It seems just selling the popping stand and items that go inside to bake shops would be the solution
Barbara’s laugh at the beginning sounds like a duck flying across a lake
Doesn't this mean less actual cake to eat
I'm out then
Amen.
Good for Americans..
You fill the tube up w/ cake. Problem solved.
You cant put CONFECTIONERY items in the cake but you can buy a MACHINE GUN😂😂
Barbara: I just celebrated my birthday last month, for that reason I am out
Barbra laughs like a crow 🤣
He should’ve offered 15% you can tell he was hesitating but got greedy. Lesson to be learned.
Honestly it would get pretty boring once u pop it 3 or 4 times. It would lose the surprise element fs.
right? I cant see using this more than twice in my life
Julian can you please call Sarah back she is worried sick
@@Justin-uc8sc :3
Damon i like the way you wear your birthday hat🎉😂😂😂❤
I agree with mark on , “yeah, that’s wrong” people automatically react to a feeling which is momentary
The son was a rookie negotiator, he should’ve said $200,000 for 20% and that might’ve gotten Lori. Also, mom doesn’t understand business, she is in love with her invention.
personally I don't think the percent would have mattered. I feel like she was looking for confidence more than anything.
Did Lori make an offer or just say their evaluation was too high? They should have asked her to make an offer rather than them adjust the asking price.
They've succeeded without Shark Tank, according to 2024 sales revenue and net worth.
Yeah that Mother was really irritating to say the least.
@@messketteee What is literally wrong with you? That was a wholesome, loving lady. Check yourself.
I definitely see one advantage that was in their favor. All shark tank viewers now know about this product. Good advertising. I am off to check it out and maybe buy a few myself!!
Barbara laughing like Count Dracula
It's better to share your first project with an experienced mentor, if it opens the door for you to get in the game.✨
I didn’t understand the sharks in this episode whatsoever. They had more than Product Market Fit and these two were amazing people.
Why do I remember seeing videos of these cakes (actual parties) a couple of years ago here on YT.
golden rule of sales is the first one to talk loses.. They should have simply asked Laurie "what valuation would you feel comfortable with"? and then went from there.
It’s a one time use item, you would have to clean & store it & hope battery or spring still worked, seems unsanitary to me.
50,000 net profit and 2.5 million valuation, silly
Barbara has an evil sounding cackle😅
What gift did Lori get? Why didn’t she want to say what it was lol
My guess is that it was a golden ticket.
I KNOW !! Im so curious
'Daymon is wearing his hat wrong way! So for that reason, I'm out'
- Barbara
😅😂😂😂
This is SO fun! I would so purchase this!
I wonder if these are the people that made the pop up candle cake. Now I love that 😊
I'm so confused. I've owned one of these for like 6 years. I got it from a cake TH-camr's link. I love it, it's great
I wonder how many items she smuggled into the jails with cakes while working for corrections. 😂 she just gave herself away! Lol
Oh, I'd buy that pop-up stand. What a great idea! We can bake our own cakes using a pound cake pan.
This just looks like one of the products you can find on temu for much cheaper than this LMAO 😂💀
Ya cuz temu tries to remake everyy single product out there using cheap materials so they can take over the world
@@madday9589 True, but wasn't the materials shown there mostly plastic?
Funny hearing Damon telling Kevin to hide when they are both being accused of dealing in shady business 😂
Sell the cake stand, make the tube that pops out one time use and replaceable. Sell the tubes at a lower rate, so that way once you buy the cake stand, you have to replace the tube for every household members birthday, holiday, and event. So if the cake stand is $30 make the single use tube $5-$8. That is how you guarantee future revenue.
4:53
“Customer is always right”…. or “Customer is always looking out for number One”
Barbara: You have a successful business! And for that reason, I'm out
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
They should focus on selling this to bakers! The one time use issue would be solved because if the bakers are their customers, they would have to get a new one for each order (I doubt they would chase down clients to get them back) Plus they could go wholesale
Barbara: One of my weaknesses in Jumanji is cake. Therefore, I'm out.
Mark's face in 1.54 says a lot about the product
I lost it when Daymond said: Kevin, run!
200k for 12% Lori got insulted
yes. cake pan made to bake the cake with the whole. to fit the stand.
Great advices from Mark
Putting money in there pop is the only valid gift
The magic number for Lori was 17.5%. Either he knew that and didn’t want to go that high or just botched it
They weren’t willing to give up enough equity. Unless product has stellar sales record, sharks expect 20 to 25ish% for their money..,
Ive had so many dreams of cool products its a gift
$500k in sales, $2.5M valuation is a factor of five, when it should be more like two, a valuation of about $1M.
And they should've said they were open to the idea of expanding into cakes and gifts, depending on the advice of their new shark partner.
“3 and 1/2 full time employees…” did I hear that right??
they pay a midgit to pop out of cakes per special requests
@@frenzygamer907 😂
Lots of states mandate full time benefits at 30 hours. Overtime kicks in at 40 hours. Their total full time employee load either includes overtime hours or a total load of 140 hours.
that was so confusing to hear. what is the 1/2
Have a good meal guys
Mark eating the cake
Should have offered her 200,000 for 40 ..she could hav taken it to QVC easily , with the cake offer they wanted to add.
"We just got told by 5 expert entrepreneurs that we are going in the wrong direction, but we are going to push ahead anyway."
Well they came here with a valuation of 2.5 million. They are actually worth 3.5 million today. Guess it worked out.
@ShakyaAriyaratne34 Citation needed.
Maybe they’ll wheel out a giant cake for Kamala Harris to jump out from tomorrow. Oh wait…..😂
Business can be brutal, but honest at the same time. And Mom they won't regret it. They're already rich. Sorry.
I understand the Shark's reasoning for too many customizations, but the base product, that is patented, is still there. It's easier to take away, than to add additional top line products. Not reasons to be fully out, in my opinion.
If everyone in America has a surprise cake isn't it no longer a surprise?
Turns out they went the cake route anyway. They didn’t heed Kevin’s advice.
Just sell it to the bakeries! That would be the fastest way to scale. They would be excited to add it in their menu. And with how expensive cakes are, this would only be marginally more expensive. Then it will sell like hotcakes :D
Making your own cake cannot be scaled easily. And is high risk to scale. Instead they should look at selling similar fun things to bakeries.
selling gift cakes to bakeries is the worst idea ever. Their brand identity gets diminished and moreover not all bakeries are going to be interested in selling these to customers.
Why don't they just market the cake stand through bakeries and party companies?
imagine giving mark $3 socks and kevin gets $1000 in cash... wow.
We Love you Daymond 🇿🇦
Let the bakery bake the cake! Just make the stands...
After the first time, it's no longer a surprise.
Gotta be more creative and say something like 250k for 20%… this would’ve been perfect for QVC. All those old ladies would buy this for their grandkids
Maybe working with bakeries would be much better idea for them
They don’t seem to be too bright. The obvious solution here is to just patent and probably license the cake stands.
Odd that Kinder Surprise is banned in the US but not in Canada 🤔
I kept expecting the sharks to get showered in icing. I don't get how you set up a cake. Does it come with a scooper or what?!
I think the sharks missed the boat on this one... "gift" product potential also... super cool!
Seriously? You think they missed the boat? This is a horrible product and business idea.
I feel Lori wanted that one
shoulda countered 200K for 25%. 200K for 8% of 50k cash flow is nuts.
I just want to eat my cake please. Don’t mess with my food.
I really would like to see the episodes where at least one shark goes in. Customers request right...
mom's vendetta!
Three and a half full time employees??
Full time in a lot of states is 30 hours. Overtime is past 40. They either have a lot of overtime hours or a total load of 135-140 labor hours per week.
So I can have my cake and pop-it too? : ) They should have had Lori make and offer and then counteroffer if needed. I wish they would have gotten a deal with Lori.
I think they went for the commercial
Because a shark like Laurie would get a lot of sales
Gift capsules were NOT a bad idea. They lucked out, the sharks ruin everything
i dont like when they say the sharks will regret it. No they won't. Even if it becomes wildly popular. I'm sure they hear this all the time and they end up regretting something very rarely and even then it probably is just a passing feeling.
So what was Lori's gift that dude winked at her about????
