I love the way it got into the air a very short run and up and away. those old WW1 planes were so maneuverable. like a kite with an engine. I absolute love those planes
This is one of the coolest things I've ever seen and heard. I fell in love with the Fokkers of the great war when I was 10 years old. This one flying reminds me why.
Smooth and tight turns, nice loops. What a nicely maneuverable aircraft? Great handling abilities of the pilot. Beautiful aircraft. Took my mind back to times WW1. 😍😍🤩🤩
AUSGEZEICHNET!!! Had no idea the D.VII was that maneuverable. The paint job is beautiful as well -- the Germans were so creative (artistic!) with their camo patterns -- you captured it well. Keep on flying!!!
Reminds me of the Blue Max... Hauptmann Heidemann: "Very Pretty Flying Willi... You should stop it. You'll live longer." The Fokker D.VII was the height of WWI Fighter Design... Fast, Sleek, Graceful and Deadly.
They didn't have starter motors, but hand cranked starter magnetos. The engine is temporarily decompressed using a handle at the rear of the camshaft, and turned through a few priming revs. It's then recompressed, and you can hear the pilot cranking the starter mag, whereupon she starts first time.
Such a beautiful aircraft and a stunning flight! You can see and hear everything! Energy management, speed management, the incredible tightness of maneuver. Thank you.
I saw this exact airplane from this exact pilot on Hahnweide (Germany) this month. Apparently, he found it somewhere hidden in Sweden on a farm. The engine is restored, but the plane around was rotten and had to be rebuild from scratch. So it's half restored, half a replica if you want.
Who is the CRETIN that gave this a thumbs down??!! Gotta just shake my head at the idiocy of some people ... yikes!!! Incredible build on the DVII, and equally incredible flying by Mikael Carlson! SUPERB!!!
I just stumbled on this gem. I agree the best DVII video on YT. Simply fantastic. Would love to know more about the aircraft history and pilot builder (or restorer?)
I keep coming back to this video.... it's a great representation of what the D7 was capable of. I can understand why the D7 was the only aeroplane mentioned in the Armistice that Germany had to surrender. Can you imagine being in a Sopwith Camel, fighting the gyroscopic procession, with one of these on your tail? It must have been truly terrifying.
What a beautiful, nice sounding plane!! It reminds me on "hells Angels" btw. the rabbit in the background seems to be interrested too.. lol he´s there until he lands, isn´t he?
Looks to be a very forgiving aircraft to fly, with few if any vices. Mikael seems to be holdling some significant forward stick on the high speed passes. No elevator trim system? Slow speed performace looks magnificent, with level flight possible with the engine just off of idle. Sounds as though the engine never exceeds 1,500 RPM or so at any time.
It is a modern copy with some original parts. But the engine is an original (- of course - refurbished) Mercedes D IIIa which produces a wonderful noise ...
Fokker DVII: Much more important as a weapon, built in much higher numbers and overall a much better airplane.. but still the Dr.I is *the* iconic (German) plane of WWI. It boggles the mind.
Superb flying! And the sound of an original engine makes all the difference... Yet I get the feeling that the plane could use more power than the Mercedes can deliver. Appears to loose speed rapidly in climbing maneuvers and the pilot has to dive for speed before every loop. Am I right or is it just an impression?
I know nothing about the engines, other than pilots always wanted more power. These were state of the art at the time (1914 -- 1918?) & I sure do admire how the pilots worked with what they had: they FLEW the aeroplane, learned some physics too I'm guessing. Love the sound. Amazing restoration.
Built to factory specifications using factory drawings and using original methods. I know Mikael was slightly annoyed that he couldn't find a recipe for the glue they used back then.
Mikael should be glad he didn’t find a formula for original glues; they were not long lived. Epoxies today (t-88) are 10 times better and stronger and last.
I have an airdrome Aeroplanes D VII replica kit plane. Believe me they will not do these maneuvers. While I’m happy to have my replica (term used loosely) it is an 80% scale “look alike”, not an actual replica/reproduction. It’s very fun to fly, but I dream of flying a real one like this!
The best D.VII video I've ever seen...I only wish I could have been there in person to appreciate it for all its worth. Simply beautiful.
A gorgeous aircraft, exceptional piloting, wonderful backdrop and fantastic filming!!! This video is a gem!
Someone flying a WW1 plane like they should be flown.
I love the way it got into the air a very short run and up and away. those old WW1 planes were so maneuverable. like a kite with an engine. I absolute love those planes
Incredible maneuverability and photography. The plane, the pilot and the photographer all did a great job!
That plane is so slow and graceful it is hard to imagine that it was once one of the deadliest aircraft in the world.
4 thumbs down?! For this great footage? Geesh! Some people are really hard to do please.
This is one of the coolest things I've ever seen and heard. I fell in love with the Fokkers of the great war when I was 10 years old. This one flying reminds me why.
A superb display of flying the Fokker D.7,Mikael always puts on a highly spirited display in his beautiful aeroplane.
He does an incredible job flying that Beauty! Very smooth!
Mikael is a legend allready. As engineer and pilot. Allways happy when he is here at Hahnweide.
Such a treat to see and hear this aeroplane and to watch it performing aerobatics! Beautifully flown and filmed.
What an absolutely beautiful DVII! AND GREAT FLYING AS WELL.
Great aircraft. I am in awe of you flying that great
Fokker
Smooth and tight turns, nice loops. What a nicely maneuverable aircraft? Great handling abilities of the pilot. Beautiful aircraft. Took my mind back to times WW1. 😍😍🤩🤩
Simply amazing aircraft, pilot and acrobatics! Best D VII video ever. Thanks so much for sharing your plane and talents.
Absolutely fabulous! 👏🏼😎
Wow man, what a dream. Thanks.
AUSGEZEICHNET!!! Had no idea the D.VII was that maneuverable. The paint job is beautiful as well -- the Germans were so creative (artistic!) with their camo patterns -- you captured it well. Keep on flying!!!
It was arguably the best fighter of WW1
Reminds me of the Blue Max... Hauptmann Heidemann: "Very Pretty Flying Willi... You should stop it. You'll live longer." The Fokker D.VII was the height of WWI Fighter Design... Fast, Sleek, Graceful and Deadly.

Very nice video! CONGRATULATIONS for the pilot, for the machine remaker and not less for the filme maker. All amazing! Regards.
Great video, really nice flying with effortless loops, also liked the slow flight..
Great Plane. Great Pilot. Great Video. That was just perfect. Thank you.
Don't think I would like to be up against this pilot in a dog fight- cheers and admiration

Simply perfect in every way - Congratulations on what is certainly the achievement of a life time. Thanks for posting.
Beautiful plane, and a good demonstration of why it was considered to be the best fighter of WWI.
Who is the CRETIN that gave this a thumbs down??!! Gotta just shake my head at the idiocy of some people ... yikes!!! Incredible build on the DVII, and equally incredible flying by Mikael Carlson! SUPERB!!!
Most likely a Russian spambot - you can meet them anywhere! :'-(
From a Brit no less
Looks and sounds amazing - what a beautiful machine.
Great plane, very well flown.
What a treat.
Just unbelievably beautiful!!!
Very interesting film. I had not previously seen much in the way of German WW1 era aircraft and had not appreciated quite how robust they were.
Gorgeous!!
I just stumbled on this gem. I agree the best DVII video on YT. Simply fantastic. Would love to know more about the aircraft history and pilot builder (or restorer?)
Beautiful flying and beautiful plane..
Awsome engine sound
MAGNIFICENT, FANTASTIC!!
If I ever get over to Sweden, I'll have to pay a visit :).
Just amazing!

Truly amazing, many thanks for sharing this video with us !!!
Even the landing is impressive.
15 minutes of pure awesome!:)
I must say iam impressed with his astonishing work!! 8)
Insane how maneuverable that plane is. Loops vertically like its nothing at all.
what a sweet sound!
My fav world war one aircraft love it.
WOW!!--no-wonder the Germans were TOP aces !!--just fantastic !!-i wonder if the "original engine"-was used ??--sure sounded perfect !!
It's an original, restored engine.
Thanks for that.
What a beautiful, nice sounding plane!!
It reminds me on "hells Angels"
btw. the rabbit in the background seems to be interrested too.. lol he´s there until he lands, isn´t he?
Sehr schoen ist!
👍🏼 Best Sewing Machine ever.😋
Traffic looking DVll.. Great flying..
This is my dream plane. . .
All that, - and no starter motor...brilliant...!
Espetacular!

Congratulations a Top flight, Mikael Carlson. Kind regards
Without a doubt the best plane of the world war for me. Comparisons drawn today are written by winners, so I do not quite trust them.
9 years and one thumbs down got to be a record!
Super Flugbild Super Geflogen

its a replica or a restored one( i want it to be the 2nd)?
nevertheless pure awesome
Interesting that the aircraft is void of external wing bracing wire. I didn’t know that about the D.VII. Great for better performance with less drag.
I just realized how little rigging the DVII has. The wing must flex a lot.
Kaggen hade 34;5 timmar på den 1933
Just wonderful, best plane ever. sounds great. Can I donate some money for some flying boots, ha ha.
Is it a restored plane or a modern copy ?
It is a modern copy with some original parts.
But the engine is an original (- of course - refurbished) Mercedes D IIIa which produces a wonderful noise ...
Sweet :)
The D VII was the first to use an non-rotary engine,a six cylinder inline.
Albatros and Halberstadt aircraft came before the D7
Fokker DVII: Much more important as a weapon, built in much higher numbers and overall a much better airplane.. but still the Dr.I is *the* iconic (German) plane of WWI. It boggles the mind.
Well it's probably more to do with the fact that Richtofen died on one...
Superb flying! And the sound of an original engine makes all the difference... Yet I get the feeling that the plane could use more power than the Mercedes can deliver. I always thought it was the Siemens-Schuckert D IV.
No, Achim's have yet to fly. I belive Mikael Carlson built this himself.
" We were attacked by those Fokkers". "Hows that ? Your a German"..... Nein, nein, these Fokkers were Spitfires !"
Класс !!!
Bravo!!!
BMW powered?
You can see right after 'contact' when they cut out him having to get out and back in 3 more times before it started. Lol
@therealgsicht is this a diiiau?
@nossrep70 100% ? Are you quite sure they had starter motors?
In Sweden?
My favorite WW1 plane.
What engine is he using Mercedes, BMW or something else?
This one is using Mercedes D.IIIäu 200hp , also D.IIIa 180hp was used .Only the F variant used BMW IIIa
@@chosearmandoarmando3864 thanks for the reply. Good info.
Die Fokker D.VII wurde nicht in der Fliegertruppe eingesetzt.
Die Maschine wurde Falsch Lackiert.
Is this an actual DVII or a replica ?
Thumb down was from a Brit no less
Is this a kit built aerodrome airplanes DVII? Or is it self designed/constructed?
Built to factory specifications using factory drawings and using original methods. I know Mikael was slightly annoyed that he couldn't find a recipe for the glue they used back then.
Mikael should be glad he didn’t find a formula for original glues; they were not long lived. Epoxies today (t-88) are 10 times better and stronger and last.

@FBVikS Mercedes! check out aerodrome.se
Not bad for an old fokker.
Looks easy ;)
Holy shit Mikael. Why do you fly without a parachute?
Ze parachute is for ze veenerschnitzel!
That`s bullshit and you know it, right?
What is, your momma?
