Its really bonkers that matador had such superior archer control and kept killing vils left and right. Yet viper kept at it and got the win with a supreme strat. I guess its just viper things.
I love the Sicilians and their unique playstyle. The Serjeants and Doujans give them a unique vibe, plus having the highest food per farm count and anti-bonus damage + armoured cavalier makes them a nice alternative to the Byzantines in terms of a 'defensive' civilization. (And both Civs can be quite Aggressive in their own right with their Defensive Traits). Their Serjeants/Cavalier being tanky + Anti-Bonus traits to military make them especially hardy.
for it to work tip top top it might need BLM style walling or an extra Donjon at home. But all of that might slow down the whole build as well. It seems like one of those hit or miss strats. if it misses it looks bad but if it hits it looks strong.
I mean it would make sense. Serjeants were often tasked with menial tasks for their kingdom (and not full warriors like Knights), so them being tasked with harvesting wood or stone would make sense.
I might try it, think itll work better if you dont get housed constantly. Also perhaps take stone for 2 donjons earlier somehow, since youll need eco spread out.
If you are to aggressive with a gil donjon drop your opponent just rushes with his own vills. The donjon is also more expensive. It can work tho if your opponent doesn't go mass archer.
Yeah but those vills aren't gonna fight fellow vills, they are fighting military units that is stronger than man at arms. If they decided to rush the donjons with vills only, expect a massive villager loss.

The real problem with early Serjeants is the Donjon. It's attack is really, really underwhelming and if you depend on them for defense, enemies can disrespect it way harder than they can a normal tower if they know about it. Skirms can basically ignore it's existence and idle you anyway. So you need to invest properly into military instead of greeding behind them. The problem with Serjeants late is the Serjeant. It's really, really slow. If you get lategame and you don't have your enemy in a cage like this, it's really easy to achieve very poor results against an enemy who can be more mobile.
To me Serjeant seem very strong. They don't need castles and are very hard to kill. I see people say they are slow, but they are faster than teutonic knights while they tank more arrows.
@@tarille1043 True, but high pierce armor on them is pretty annoying when you are kiting them, lot of time and effort, and they can just decide to ignore you and build Donjons in your base. Its fortune that they are so expensive.
They have base speed of 0.9, TK has base 0.8, with squires Serjeant outspeed crossbows by a little bit but TK is still massively slower than crossbow on top of having worse pierce armor.
@@belisarian6429 expensive maybe compared to militia-line but i would say they're priced competitively for what they are. if you can get them to melee or otherwise get an offensive donjon plopped down, they're very good

Anti cav anti archer infantry? So... Aztec Eagles? Also as far as "imba p2w civs" goes... Sicillians, Romans, Dravidians and Bengalis haven't been performing particularly well in tournaments. While free civs like China, Mayans, Incas and Portugese are top tier. I think the only DLC civ that has been performing notably well is Bohemians because of Arena and Black Forest.
A lot of expansion civs aren't that great, sicilians was also pretty bad back then on release compared to Burgundians, they are on the good spot now but they are still not top tier civ, not even in low and mid elo
