Hi, I'm a 17-year-old guy, and recently my parents told me that they would prefer for me to be able to pay for my own college tuition. There are just a few months to go before I start college, and I've already been accepted into the school of my choice. I had obviously been expecting that my parents would help me out because they are financially well-off enough to do so, and they had done this for my brother as well. So, I did not think that I would have to pay for college by myself. My dad is an engineer and my mom is a nurse, so we are financially stable. I would say that they have enough money to afford to send me to college without making me work for it or rely on student loans or anything like that.

9 out of 10 new business ventures go under. There's a strong chance Golden Child son is going to either lose, or steal the parents' money.

Especially when the one that came up with the idea hasn't been in the industry, hasn't researched the industry, or believes they are better than those who have been in the industry longer.
If I were through OP, I would have asked if they saw a business plan. If not, then there's no way he could get any other investors who know anything about running a business.

This is a really old story. If I remember right, it came out that there really wasn't much of a business plan and that the brother was basically going to live off of the parents' money "until things came together" for him. Dad finally figured out that there really wasn't a business, and things got really ugly. Basically, dad's world crash in around him. Realizing his own son had been using him, all but cost him his marriage, and his relationship with his other child. I don't remember if there was much of an update after that, I remember dad being called a shell of himself.

The Golden Child is going to crash and burn, and his father will have to accept that not only did he put his eggs in one basket, he also chose the wrong basket.
His ego won't survive, and I doubt his marriage will survive.

While the mother sou ds genuinely repentant, the father doesn't understand what he did wrong and probably won't untill he hits rock bottom.

Brother and Op were 6 years apart. Then Op says brother is 26. Op said he was 17 and about to graduate high school. So either Op doesn’t do math or it’s another fake story and the writer didn’t pay attention to what he or she was writing.

To wait until the last minute was really crappy. If they expected OP to pay, they should have been upfront. To pull the rug out at the last minute proves the parent are POS.

The fact mom went along with this until called out makes her an ah too. If she would have stopped the favoritism when it started the family might have been saved. Dad is a major ah and deep down he knows it. Dad , brother and mom destroyed their family.

The background bounced around so much I made it 30 seconds in. Many of us read, not listen. It’s too annoying.

Entitled boy emotionally blackmails parents into paying for his (their son's) college and doesn't even ask them to stop funding the son's brother's new business, and the family breaks apart. Who could have guessed?

I really hate people like the so called "parents". Why did the mom start acting like a mom all of a sudden?
