    "Sunset" always brings a tear to my eye and a British salute to my white ensign of Her Majesty's Royal Navy and the union jack of the UK hanging on my office wall.
    A grateful Yank in Tennessee.

    I really don’t like all the photographers moving amongst the band, it is too intrusive and will most certainly affect the concentration of the band members. If there was just one photographer that would be much better and more inconspicuous. Still the Royal Marines did us proud and played a wonderful beating retreat. I noticed they played auld Lang syne as they exited the guildhall. I wonder who was retiring from the band??

      spentacle Those who can do, those who cannot take pictures of and generally impede those who can. There was a real danger of career-threatening injury to one of the band or a member of the public when that clown with the cine camera was walking backwards. I'm not normally a fan of the elfin safety gnomes but on this occasion...No respect from any of them.

      spentacle That, historically speaking, is what that gurt big stick has been for! I once managed to catch a scoffer who came a wee bit too close a crack on the shin with the side of my studded boot whilst looking straight ahead with a blank expression and got away with it as he hopped and howled.

    Portsmouthvideos have a lot to answer for if that is their employees constantly interrupting the enjoyment of the crowd watching the display. There is no need for over intrusive interuption by photographers on the parade ground during this great display of both drill and musical ability!

    • @portsmouthvideos1
      @portsmouthvideos1  6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      No, the camera people constantly weaving in and out of the
      band have nothing to do with portsmouthvideos and I agree they did considerably detract from the brilliant performance of the band.

    None of them are trained Marines they don’t do any Military training and serve as stretcher bearers only Some Buglers nicknamed “Sticks” do switch over and have to Join a Recruit squad for Commando training for 8 months then possibly more training for a Specialist skill

    • @mike04535
      @mike04535 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      All band personnel are trained marines. They have to undergo the basic infantry training and are required to attain a high standard of fitness. They do not do the commando training but they support the commandos in combat zones with drivers, paramedics and logistics. They are certainly not tin soldiers. When they leave the School of Music they will join one of the five RM Bands. When the commandos are sent to war zones, they will go too and they will earn the same campaign medals as the commandos. Some band personnel have lost their lives serving alongside the commandos. As a former RM 40 Cdo. myself I can assure you that band personnel are held in high regard by the commandos.

    I don't see the point of having the "conductor" of the band standing on the steps facing the band, if he's not conducting the music for the entire show. Other than the officer leading the band in marching & formation. The band can Clearly play & March on their own.
