After the recording of Layla with Eric Clapton, he asked Duane to join his band, Derek and the Dominos. Duane was already involved with the Allman Brothers Band, so he declined the invitation.
Duane was sick and angry with his brother one day, so Gregory bought him an album by Taj Mahal. I think it was "The Old Folks Back Home". On it Ed Jesse Davis played slide guitar. Duane was inspired by Davis and began learning to play slide guitar with a Coricidin bottle that Greg had bought him for his cold. Johnny Sandlin, the Allman Brothers producer at the time was Duane's roommate. Johnny told me that when he began playing slide he said that it was a horrible noise he made. Johnny said that he had to go away for 30 days but when he had returned Duane had completely mastered the slide guitar.
I worked for Johnny and the Bros. at Capricorn Studio..
When duane allman got the band together it was his idea to introduce Jazz into rock and Blues.
his biggest influence at the time was Miles Davis. Dusne would repeatedly listen to the album Kind of Blue by Davis. miles was a huge influence on Duane Allman and for the type of band that Duane had envisioned. 😮❤❤
They are in my heart ❤ forever.

The Allmands kinda birthed the entire southern rock movement, such as Molly Hatchet, Outlaws, even Skynrd...

I always admire when great musicians cite their in influences...I always told my friends BB King changed my life...The Raw Energy with B.B's Band coming from the stage was magnificent, and I realized everything I was listening to at that time was wrong...So I've spent the last 60+ years getting on the Jazz & Blues Train and Highway...But let's not forget T Bone Walker he personified Jazz with The Blues...There is a great video on TH-cam of T Bone Walker from 1966 from The Greatest Jazz Concert with T Bone backed by Jazz Immortals such as Dizzy Gillespie, Clark Terry, Coleman Hawkins, Louie Bellson, etc,etc...He does 2 songs " Woman You Must Be Crazy" and I think "Stormy Monday"...It's a must watch, and listen for Jazz with Blues Aficionados...I've always wondered what Guitar Greats like Duane, and Hendrix would have been doing if they remained with us...One last thing, I had a friend who went to see The Allman's years back, and she told me that BB King was opening for them...I told her that might be a mistake. After she saw BB I asked her "What did you Think of BB?"...She replied "Nobody should follow BB!". Well, at least we we had another Jazz and Blues Convert.
