  • Mykonos city center, or old town, is the idyllic Greece you know! Perfect photo and Instagram place to travel early to vlog without... ✈ Our 220 page guide on non-stop travel - bit.ly/2PjaPey
    Our stay in Mykonos wouldn't have been the same with out a visit to the city center aka the old town as far as we're concerned haha. The Mykonos town is home to the idyllic white buildings and blue bannisters - everything you've seen in those travel photos on Instagram and exactly what you expect from the Greek islands!
    Greece has the white buildings and photo opportunities all over, but the old town is definitely the home of the largest groupings we could find around Mykonos - so made for the perfect place to travel and film a vlog with no people at 8am!
    This is our last vlog from Mykonos, we visit Santorini next to chase more of the infamous Greek island lifestyle and for the wedding.

      Daneger and Stacey Sorry to see it Louis Vitton. The homogenization of the world continues where cultures are eviscerated. Can't you just see it? " I bought my Loius Vitton bag in Greece". The same bag you can get anywhere.
      Places like Amazon destroying the world. I try not to shop anywhere that is not local or is not a chain. I am only 8:50 into your video. I suppose you saw a Starbucks,too?

    Guys as a local I feel obliged to deeply THANK YOU for showcasing this side of Mykonos! This is my favourite hour to walk around too. Unless it's Sept or May. Mykonos is so authenticly beautiful it doesn't need Louis Vitton and posh clubs to shine.

      To my knowledge the white has been used for centuries to reflect sun light and keep the houses cool. Mykonos has approx 300 days of sunshine during a year. We all repaint the white lines on the streets every year. Also, the streets are narrow to block the wind.

    Although I have not been to Mykonos, I know it's an amazing island in many ways in it's own unique right. But regarding the point of the video that Mykonian villages on the islands that have less to almost no tourists being much more genuine and traditional looking being so amazing. Then I can only advise to explore the rest of the country. Greece may receive 32+ million tourists this year, but Greece has an incredible mainland and 6000 islands. In the Cycladic islands group alone (Mykonos is part of this group) has soo so many islands that are equally beautiful and unique in their own way and hardly or not see a single tourist. From this island group Milos (The amazing geological island), Folegandros (The santorini but without the crowds), Amorgos (tranquility), Koufounisia (amazing beach waters), Naxos (The most fertile one, amazing historic sites and famous for their potatoes and so on), Sifnos (for their own churches), Tinos for having amazing hill terraces, dove houses, The strange massive bolders everywhere that looks like as if Cyclopses has taken them there, to the landmark Monastery of Evangelistria. To the islan of Syros, Serifos, Kithnos, Andros, Astiphalea, Kea and so on. So much tranuility, heaven and beauty. Let alone in the other 7 island groups around Greece and the Mainland itself

      Wrong. Greece receives 32 million tourists this year. Last year it was 29 million. The last time it was 16 million we talk about 2010-2011. Long ago.

      We did hit a record high this year with over 32m tourists, and it's actually worrisome. The tourists are increasing by millions every year and this small country, with its small islands, just can't cope.

    • @Ptolemy336VV
      @Ptolemy336VV 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well those 4 islands that get the full scale tourism attack, yes they can't cope. What do you expect of a island of just 105 km2 (Mykonos). But Greece has 6000 islands, and many regions where you hardly see any of that large scale tourism. It's super easy to find. As a matter of fact, I have never been to Mykonos, nor any of the cyclades except for Santorini. I have been to Crete and while in august only the cities can be a tourist attraction, the rest of it's inland is quiet and tranquil. And that is in July/August. I have also been there in May and oktober and so many beaches where entirely empty, just for me alone. So I don't really see the worry for now. I see it only for Santorini/Mykonos and maybe Paros. But many of the other islands could very well and gladly so receive much much more tourists. If Greece would really become a 365 day destination, including winter and fall and making spring also more visited, and the so many places that hardly have any tourism even though the places are all heaven, then tourism could even be 40-50-60-70+ million in the future. I can see that happening, if Greece keeps pursuing it's plans on becoming a all year destination. Greece also a serious winter with 80% mountains that are snowcapped in winter and 31.5% forests that make it in combination with mountains and landscapes a truly incredibly place to go to also during fall with all it's red/orange colors.
      Anyway. I see potential in multiple ways

    At first i thought I was seeing snow! It's soooooo white which makes Mykonos beautiful. Did you know that Greece has some amazing olive oil in the world? Olive oil generously poured over mozzarella cheese, tomatoes, basil, and olive bread.... equals time for yummy yummy munchie time.
    The Overview of the Cretan Diet. During this research, it was found that the men of rural Crete consumed significant amounts of olive oil, olives, fruits, nuts and vegetables (especially wild greens). They consumed moderate amounts of fish, cheese and red wine and very small amounts of eggs, meat and milk.

    • @Ptolemy336VV

      Any vegetable, fruit, olive, nuts or anything from the nature in Greece is of the highest excellence. Everything tastes so incredible. And here in North west Europe I don't buy anything but Greek olive oil. For 20 years there was nothing but Spanish and Italian olive oils here which are mediocre at best. As of the last 5 years I can find many Greek olives and oils that blows everything else away.

    • @CambodiaNomadTips
      @CambodiaNomadTips 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Olive oil is really an amazing gift from olive trees. Can't really find any good quality oil here in Cambodia. Some of the best oil comes from Tuscany in Italy.

    • @CambodiaNomadTips
      @CambodiaNomadTips 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Some oils are not olive at all. They are mixed with other oils!! Greece has some ones for sure 🤩

    • @Ptolemy336VV
      @Ptolemy336VV 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Most of the mixing of olive oils with other oils happen in Italy and Spain. Italy for instance receives 50% of it's olive oils from Greece. Many big Italian brands like Bertoli have been caught mixing olive oil with other non-olive oils. In Greece mixing olive oil with non olive oils is sacrilege. It may happen, but very rarely. And unlike in Spain and Italy where much of the olives go to 3 major olive oil mega refineries in bulks, in Greece this is not the case. There are less megafactories and much more local scale olives and olive oils which are of exepctional quality and taste and diversity. Also keep in mind that Spain produces 30% extra virgin olive oil, Italy 50%, and Greece 90%.

    The strong, constant winds you guys are experiencing is the MELTEMI, a northerly wind that blows down the Aegean sea in summer, especially Cycladic islands like Mykonos. August is probably also the windiest month haha. Thats one of the reasons why you dont see many trees on those islands, the relentless winds (and rocky soil and low rainfall). Amazing videos though, shocked at how empty the town was!

    This is the first time I have seen your blog. It was enjoyable. We are going to Mykonos a few days for Christmas this year, away from the crowds. What do you suggest? We likely will walk the streets and look at the architecture but also interested if there are any museums open and maybe a day trip to Delos. Any advice you have is welcomed. Keep the videos coming. Visit us in Rafina Greece and do a blog. We have vacation rentals and a quaint port town worthy or your visit for a blog.

    Greek Summer is dry and windy ! ==> 30°-35°C no problem ! Triangle Andros-Tinos-Mykonos is especially windy - 1 boffor more then the rest .
    Andros was home of the God of the wids: Aiolos ! Mykonos nickname : island of the winds ! But for us is very very normal !

    I really don't understand why all tourists who comes to Greece visit Mykonos and Santorini and complains about the crowds. If you don't like crazy night life and parties and all that, you may go to some other greek island. We have many! Try Patmos, Serifos and Nisiros in the Aegean, Meganisi and Paxos in the Ionian sea and Pilion(Pelion) in the mainland.
    I wish you the best and safe travels.

    Any of the Greek islands are idyllic, but just spare a moment to think how local and tourist poo is dealt with as there are no sewage plants on any of them. I know some of the islands intimately and the Greeks will tell you when it's not wise to swim in waters around a town. I've also experienced swimming in the small beautiful bay of Pedi, on Symi island, and lifting my head out of the water to find a large turd bobbing up right in front of me.

  • @Flyingjos
    @Flyingjos 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Mykonos... OK place but overestimated.
    Greece has so different scapes but neither Mykonos nor Santorini are the most representative ones. There are far more beautiful islands and more traditional. Not mention inland which is far superior in beauty and diversity. Mykonos is a must for tourists seeking a mix of tradition with a very strong dose of commercialisation and night life. It's not suitable for those seeking the true soul of Greece... For there are places who will cut your breath with their beauty and simplicity. Mountain sites and mountain villages or island small towns out of a story book... In general here in this little country there are so many things to see and learn that you will need years of exploration to be justified in your knowledge about Greece.

    • @DanegerAndStacey
      @DanegerAndStacey  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Totally agree with you there Joseph - you could almost say Mykonos and Santorini are like 'gateway Greece', it's close, but far from the real experience of the country.
