Me and my friend (Same one as I keep mentioning) both love European cars. We're discussing what we want to import over as our first cars. He trying to decide between a Trabant 601L or a Volga GAZ 24. I'm advising the Trabant because they are cheaper, smaller, (less shipping size and weight) and here are way more here in the USA. I personally, want a ZAZ-968M. Basically the Ukrainian Version of a Trabant or VW beetle, as it's a "People's car".

+Trabant 601L Yes, the beetle is very common in USA, but I want to import a ZAZ from Lithuania to US. I've found many for sale online. I'll have to show my friend this next time he comes over or when he checks his TH-cam account again.

My friend still wants a Trabant, but his dad is making him get something else to drive first. His dad think Trabants are too unreliable. To be fair, they aren't as reliable as they could be, but they aren't like a Yugo. They are actually pretty good.

Yes, they are pretty reliable im driving mine for a year or so, and nothing wrong happened, everything still works fine, but i had some minor problems, like bulb in blinker, front leaf spring squeaks (need some lubrication) one front brake cylinder...

Good video! Where are you from/ what's you native language? How did you buy this Trabant?
We used to have one, but that was a late one (1986 or so). A Trabant from 1970 is a really rare sight, even in Hungary!

+Trabant 601L What's up with catalyc converters? There was a period in Hungary when cars with two-stroke engines (so basically Trabant, Wartburg or Barkas) needed to have cat. conv. installed to get the "green card" (environmental thing). It's over, now now they can run without that.

+Trabant 601L Yea, I understood, your English is understandable, don't worry!
How much did it cost? There is a Hungarian mockery, which says: "A Trabant is worth as much as the petrol in it"
