Love your methods. By following your advice on reward training in a prior video, I had two TWH mares dropping their heads and stopping instantly (ground work) to get their food reward. That has paid off as both horses are always fired up when they're turned out. I don't need big, strong, young horses dragging me to the pasture. I'm also having success under saddle with gaiting and staying in gait. Your methods work.
I believe in “stop and praise” but not too much as to confuse the horse. I have found the best way to get my walker/saddlebred mix into a smooth gait is to squeeze him with my heels and increase pressure until he smooths out while at the same time putting enough pressure on the bit to make him hold his muzzle as close to vertical as possible. When he reaches the gait and smooths out then “stop and praise”. My boy is trotty but he tries hard.
John Lyons a hundred repetitions in a row and the horse is beginning to get it. Love your videos. As a novice I know my timing is not good, but I want more on training a five or six gaited horse. The little STB mare I’m riding has a beautiful rack under saddle. She also has a beautiful trot, never under saddle. I’d love to be able to shift gears.
Albert gaits fine but the problem is he wants to go a 100 miles an hour everywhere I think he grew up being trained in Louisiana to go fast all the time. So praise slower.
thanks again for sharing all your knowledge with us.

Great point!!!
Stop and praise is working for head down and yield to leg for me. That is as far as I’ve gotten yet.
I think my horse should be able to do most whatever I want him to do. Maybe slower or not perfect. Be it arena or trail.
Went to your website but could only see the shank bit looking for the rockin r will you be getting any of those?
I don't sell those. There are a bunch of places that sell the rockin s raised bit.
Where do I go to get one of your bits ?
