Final Fantasy XI. Galka Character Creation

After Hume, Elves and Tarutaru are the "wild" races. These are the Galka and Mithra. Galkans are extreme examples of strength and vitality. These make for superb Paladins, Monks and Warriors. Mithra are extreme examples of agility and dexterity. These are brilliant Rangers, treasure hunters and Dancers.
Galka are crucial to the original story of FFXI and most of the dynamis areas. After a tragic exodus from their desert homeland the Galka became slaves for Bastok. One of these slaves was named RaoGrimm, who is the talekeeper of their race. During a failed expedition, Raogrimm was brutally betrayed by a Hume slaveowner named Ulrich. After nearly dying his body was found by Promathian demons and he became the Shadow Lord... later, Dynamis Lord.

There are two things about the Galka that I don't understand:
1) How do they have such genetic variety despite reproducing asexually?
2) Since they reproduce asexually, why are they capable of things like romance?

Galka reproduce by eating enough smarties candy. April fools! Now, a story.
Honestly though, the Galka video is in honor of my first main, Grimlok. In those ancient days, the Samurai were some of the most technologically advanced people. Wearing medium to lightweight armor they invented refined methods of forging katana. These techniques destroyed the Shadowlord (cavemen). But as time went on the ways of the sword King began to waver. Extremely intelligent scholars / scientists / wizards (Mages) and a strange warrior called a Ninja (Spy) cast doubt on the ancient kingdom. Hearing the plight of San d'oria the weapon Yoichinoyumi swore to uphold the ancient ideals while finding a new warrior to combat new foes. .. There is rumored to be a famous Dancer who has shown A+ talent as a Ranger...

I started doing research on the race and supposedly, they are reincarnated magically due to some issue going on with their Mother Crystal. Basically, a Galka dies, then a Galka child is found/created.
