HAHAHAHAHAHAH!! What was with the dancing groove beat at that end. Its going to be one of those tunes that gets stuck in my head ARGH! Awesome video mate! Love your work, you have been a huge inspiration to me and all my photographic tutorials, I mention you in just about all of them and direct people to watch your episodes because they are some of the best i have seen online, along side Kelby. Rock on Mark!
A lot of great tips!! Thank you for making this very helpful video. I am slowly working on getting things headed into the direction of working with models. Until now most of my work has been wildlife, landscapes and nature stuff but now I am looking to expand. Keep up the great work Mark, Your videos have been so helpful and I always learn something new no matter what the subject is.
Another great tutorial Mark. Approaching a prospective model can be very intimidating for a novice photographer who works out the home/apartment, perhaps meeting in the local park is better and will help set the model at ease. Having an assistant for both the photog and the model can also be very helpful. Have you patented those dance moves?
Nice end bit :) Thanks Mark that was great, the bit about not forcing the model and not handling the model makes me much more comfortable as a male photographer. I also like the idea of being able to strut my stuff during the shoot :-P
Hi Mark, Excellent work as usual :-) I tried reviewing comments before I posted this to make sure my question had not already been asked but to be honest I ran out of steam wading through it all. So I hope I am not repeating a question. Can you tell us about hair and makeup..? Who is responsible for it when you are shooting model porfolios and when you hire a model for a shoot.? Thanks Bill
Great video! I'm a photographer and i use those tips a lot! (And there are some that i didn't know about!) ... Sharing this! Keep on! BTW: Great dancer! :P
@AlainAnhTruong In Lightroom, when you click on a picture, there are two little flags beside the starts. If its a winner then click the flag without the "X", but if you know it isn't a winner then choose the flag with the "X". Hope that helps!
lolol I feel so proud of my self! 90% of your info I do it too! im not a pro or near lol i teach my self with tutorials and stuff! I think it come natural from me I love photography! But by teaching my self I think Im doing pretty good! Thank You
Great Video! I just have one question.. when releases/contracts are signed - who keeps it? or do you and the model/client sign one copy each? Someone please explain...
@snapfactory Mark you should mention the DVD from creativeLIVE about the 3day course of a fashion photoshoot you had... it was amazing and very well worth buying!
depends.. if TOP model u should. but you can try place add or find a friend that want to become a model for her / his portfolio. well please mind there differences between models that experienced and not. however, this can be simple diminished by using the right communication approach. yes, this also apply to top models as well.
@PhotoZulu The video is very informative and not amateurish at all!! With regards to exploiting the model...they are hiring her to model for them in this video, not the other way around. A release form may work both ways: the model(s) may sign to have the right to use the pictures themselves or to give the photographer the (exclusive) right to use the pictures...or whatever they will agree upon in the form. This is of course to avoid any problems later...Im sure you know this already :)
"Stand this way and twist this way and move this ways and shot shot! Stand this way and twist this way and move this ways and shot shot! Stand this way and twist this way and move this ways and shot shot!....." dam I got this song stuck in my head now >=(
went to go get a model release, I'd rather not pay a yearly fee, I was mostly just wanting to check it out. I don't even take pictures of any people except family
Why would you buy music and make a playlist... it would be cheaper (free), easier and less time-consuming to just ask the model for her favorite artist/band and create a station in Pandora? Also, the "never touch the model" is not an absolute rule written in stone. It all depends on the connection, relationship and comfort level you develop.
This was the most helpful video I have seen so far regarding a model photoshoot. Thanks Mark and of course Jan who asked for this video.

Great tip with the music! I've never really thought about having music playing, but I can see how that would be a very good way to relax your model.
Hello Mark, I have watched many of your videos and found them informative and enjoyable. Well done and thanks.

Communication and management of expectations. I agree!

@1Sniper101 Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8
went to go get a model release, I'd rather not pay a yearly fee, I was mostly just wanting to check it out. I don't even take pictures of any people except family
i agree to disagree.. IMHO it's better to communicate between the model. i think Mark have vidoe on that issue.
I always thought that the Adorama models were TFP
Where would you find her?
Could you make a video like this but for workingwith common people? :-)
Jan is pronounce "Yahn" FYI

How experienced was the model? She looked very awkward and nervous.

Is the model allowed to speak? :)
@RJINCORP Big deal

Never show the model anything! and if you're paying her, you don't have to do any of this - she should know her job.
