Great review, I was an early backer of this Sling on PD's Kickstarter campaign and was thinking of pulling our due to the price and minimal look to it. Your video has given WAY more info than PD's campaign pages to entice me enough to stay true and back the project. I can see this Sling now being perfectly suited to my everyday daily, travel and minimalist photographic needs for my Fuji XT2 outfit including DJI Neo Drone. Thanks for a thorough review
Absolutely love Peak Design! As a big fan, I have to say I prefer this new 'Fast and Light' sling over the previous Everyday slings. The 2L sling is the perfect replacement for my old Field Pouch V2. :D
Yeah, that normal sling is really camera-centered, and as a result it's super bulky and heavy :( Too bad that this new one is very sporty looking; would be great if they made a more elegant lightweight sling too. But I still have hopes for the white version of this...
@@weetcka I still like my Field Pouch, but it definitely has some pain points. First, it only has one compartment, unlike other small bags that might have multiple compartments. Second, I found the original strap uncomfortable, so I replaced it with PD’s camera strap. Lastly, the Velcro can be quite rough on the hands every time I open the pouch.
So the camera cube just kind of floats inside the bag? No velcro or anything to hold it in place? I'm also surprised there's no way to remove the cover for the camera cube. Initially I was excited that this was slightly bigger than the current 6l sling, but it looks like it actually has less room internally once the camera cube is in there.
I agree. Kinda dissapointed with the whole kickstarter campaign. They seem to have lost their design sense. None of the products look terribly useful compared to the competition out there which has zoomed ahead.
For an outdoor-sy sling I wish sage/green was an option. Also I've been waiting for them to release a sling with a water bottle option without resorting to putting it inside the sling, disappointed yet thanks for the video instead of trying to judge from their Kickstarter
Those are not unbranded zips. Those are ultra zips made by PD themselves. You can see that in the kickstarter campaign. I guess they‘re similar to their zoom zips which you mentioned in one of your previous videos about one of PD‘s backpacks.
good video, thanks for doing it - one question, no loops inside to clip the camera cube to so it doesn't move around? that's surprising. also for the strap, could you have reversed it to make the harness point on the bottom of the padded section? I assume yes, as long as there's attachments points on both sides? (or is the harness attachment only on one side so if you flip the strap around, the hardness attachment would be on the wrong (top) part of the strap?).
TBH, PD's design is innovative and top notch for daily usage. However their bags never really designed for heavy duty camera usage. The side access of everyday backpack is not really efficient for quick changing lens or gears when you are settled comparing to back access bags. It is also violable to accidentally drop your gear if you forgot to close the side door. The camera cube concept for backpack or sling doesn't really work either. The cube is dangling around even with the hook. Personally I think Shimoda is a more professional camera backpack brand comparing to PD in both city or outdoor shooting. Don't get me wrong, I have almost all PD products because I like their high quality. They are just not good for professional photography usage.
I think the life time guarantee covers the fact they aren’t using branded zippers. Normally you want YKK zippers because they are really long lasting and other zippers fail early, but in this case Peak Design will get it fixed for you so it’s not so much of a concern
I'm curious about the decision to make the 7l pack work with the xsmall cube - small cube seems so much more practical? Or, perhaps that's just me carrying a DSLR w/ lens that doesn't fit in the xsmall cube. Perhaps I'm in the minority...
They're not unbranded - PD partnered with a company (can't remember which) to make their zippers and they're awesome. Just as strong as YKK (from my experience) and are far more free-running than YKK. I hate having to hold my bad just to unzip it - you don't have to do that with PD zips.
They’re not unbranded. They’re custom Zoom zippers that are higher quality than YKK. What there’s zero excuse for actually is Pack Hacker not knowing this
Petition to make falling over the bike handlebar a standard part of the 2-week test reviews.
It would be great for the usage timeline! 😂
Can you compare this Sling vs the original 6L from PD?
Or may be the Wandrd 7L sling?
Which do you prefer?

Thanks for watching! 😃
Next time, please use a more common mirrorless camera, so people have a better sense on what fits.
Exactly!
He did say it would fit a Fuji xt-3 and an extra lens. But a visual would be nice.
We need 'bike tests' more often
Noted 😃
This looks way better than the new backpack.

I am considering a Field Pouch V2. Why do you think 2L Outdoor Sling is better for you?

Can those 2 dangly cords for the tripod be stowed? Or do we have to cut them with scissors if we don't want to use them?
I saw another review where you can stowe the cords.

so no quick-adjust strap like the old PD slings??? that was my favorite feature of their slings😢

Yep, for camera, the everyday sling 6L is still the best
Can you wear this as a shoulder bag or is the strap too short?
Please try inserting their Tech Pouch!
gettin Bellroy venture vibes 😅
I’ll be keeping my 9L Venture Sling over this tbh
Why? 🧐
Can we put 11inch iPad?
But will it fit an ipad pro 11?
Measure it

that looks like a REALLY big sling…. almost backpack size
Cheap zipper strips - thats enough for me to lost interest. WTH, Pd?
Zero reason other than greed to use unbranded/non ykk zippers on a $90 sling
