Kumble wasn’t prime wicket taker early part of career, there was a time even Bhajji was premier spinner. Kumble became different once he crossed 400, he went at light speed to 600 after crossing 400
Actually Kumble was pretty quick to about 200 wickets in the early to mid 90s. He was prolific in home series against England, Zimbabwe, New Zealand and the West Indies. His flipper was legendary at that time. He slowed down a bit after 2000 with the arrival of Harbhajan, like you said. Also, there were a lot of flat tracks both home and away around that time. His final third was something else, because he added a couple of extra deliveries to his arsenal.
The short balls from cummins are so effing accurate man. Not too far and not too close. Just high and long enough to catch the edge of a glove. Man's got some serious talent
About Shami I dont think NCA wants to rush him into 5 day test workload that too just for last 2 tests of BGT. They want him recovering well and be better for the Champions Trophy if at all that happens and the next WTC cycle. NCA in India has already made the mistake once of clearing Bumrah to play International games in a tricky situation for India only to have Bumrah aggravate his injury. They will always treat Shami really well in the post recovery process and never rush back bowlers for games just because India is losing.
In positives, you forgot Nitish Reddy in this match..... Yes, he just scored 16 on 60, but he was crucial in wearing that ball down, something which the top order should've done, but hasn't been doing consistently.
The thing I don't get is that people still believe that if India hadn't avoided follow on they would have bowled out again. Ok i get it out ICT batting order is vulnerable at the moment but if you looked at australia they were cooked, and Hazelwood was injured, and india's batting is scoring run in 2 nd innings so i really don't think after 234-9 we were in a comfortable position.
Btw, last time India lost in MCG or SCG, 90s batch, Dravid, Laxman, Sachin, Sehwag, Zaheer, Bhajji were still playing. MCG traditional wicket is quite closer to the Ranji trophy red soil wickets.
Siraj and Akashdeep were far better than the scorecard suggests. On Shami NCA yet to give get clearance, BCCI don’t rush bowlers to international cricket. They didn’t rush Bumrah which all know how good that delay was.
I have a slightly hipster hot take on this series. I say Khawaja and Mcsweeney have overall been better than Jaiswal as openers. In both games that Australia dominated, they played out at least 10 overs with the new ball. In these conditions, seeing off the new ball is critical. They have laid the foundation for Head each time. The two times they failed, look what happened to the Australian innings! Jaiswal had one blockbuster impact knock in Perth. Apart from that, he has faced less than 10 balls in just about each innings. Gill and Kohli (in his current form especially) being exposed to the new ball isn’t helping. Overall, Jaiswal has failed at the one thing an opener is expected to do. Having said so, I believe he is a phenomenal talent, and I am sure he will find a way!
Yeah when Rohit retires then you guys will find faults with the management but rn you will call him names likeVadaPao. Have some respect for the cricketers.
Steve Smith is NOT in form.. It's something like a placebo, or a proxy innings when the bowling isn't good. Smith was looking like he'd be out in every ball of his first 40 runs.. The reason he scored a century is because the ict bowled pretty bad after his fifty. It's similar to the placebo effect placed by kohli in Perth, when we thought that he was back in form, but in reality it was just poor bowling by the ozzies.. Players of their quality can capitalize on poor bowling despite their lack of form
I hate to act like a conspiracy theorist or smth but something in the dressing room looks off, esp in yesterday’s video of the team too. Many feared that GG era could be reminiscent of the Chappell era, where one man’s ego led to mistreatment of legends and fear and uncertainty amongst youngsters, i am really hoping that doesn’t happen. Truly a sad end to such a legendary career.
I just dont think a player as matured and intelligent as Ashwin would fall prey to dressing room politics. Like he said to the reporter after landing in India that he is an impulsive person he instinctively thought it was better to retire and that retirement was already on his mind so he did retire. I will trust Ashwin's words more than stupid journalists & fans finding faults with everyone else. After NZ series defeat the fans & journalists alike were questioning why Ashwin was still a part of the team when he is 38 and not performing as well as he used to and why is he not retiring and letting younger players like Washington play & develop in the test setup! Now when he actually retired everyone is busy blaming the management and finding conspiracy theories behind everything.
What a person’s intelligence has to do with respect to politics? Was Ganguly not wise enough? Did that make him immune to any of it? Yes, if at all Ashwin is not a blunt dude like Kohli or Sehwag who would on an immediate basis lift the covers off or ever at all. You think the guy who never spoke a word, literally a word after being dropped for the WTC after playing one of the most pivotal roles in making India qualify, never given enough chances overseas despite decent stats and after being India’s highest wicket taker at one point will now? Idk abt other fans but as someone whose been loving & following test cricket for a while, his one series failure was nothing infront of the horrible past 5 years of Kohli, the turbulent and mediocre test career of Rohit & poor run off late. But even then I was expecting those two to go well this BGT.
@@okayysam How his intelligence is relevant is because as a player Ashwin knows he won't be the first choice spinner in the England test series in England and I have very little hope of India qualifying for WTC so why not retire at a point where he himself feels like he has nothing more to contribute to the team on the International stage. The next home series for India is in October or November 2025.Why should Ashwin keep himself available & fit both physically & mentally only so that he can play in a series almost a year from now when he will already be 39. His intelligence is also in not getting involved in any politics and retiring on his own terms instead of being left out of the Indian team by the selectors after a point of time to let the team transition from the older lot to newer lot and let that happen organically and not get involved in unnecessary drama with coaches or selectors to malign a wonderful career. Retire on your own terms enjoy life with family play club level cricket & IPL for a few months I think anybody would prefer quiet & respectful end to their career over a dramatic end to an illustrious cricket career where you get sidelined to accomodate younger players. And by not speaking up about getting dropped from WTC final squad and then performing well and making sure India was in the lead for 80% of the WTC cycle by making sure India is still in contention only by your performance is a far better way to answer people instead of speaking out bluntly against the injustice of selection of anything else.
@@okayysam Also I hate that they made the mentor of an IPL winning team the head coach of India and I also hate the coaching staff he has chosen who the hell is the batting coach somebody who has no significant achievement but is just a sidekick of Gambhir from KKR. And I don't think it was a sad end to Ashwin's career. I am pretty sure Ashwin's batting average in Australia is more than Gambhir's average in Australia. He retired on a career high and the man was 38 we should respect his decision instead of trying to find conspiracy theories to build up a drama just to relate it to the infamous Chappell era.
I haven’t directly linked it to the Chappell era, read my comment clearly. And i agree on the coach pov. In white ball setup, GG as a coach was still fine but what part of his career as a batter or his experience as a coach makes him fit for coaching a red ball side, especially with some of his erstwhile teammates and far superior test cricketers still on board is a mystery to me. And sincerely I hope that era never repeats, who would want to witness another 2007 wc?
both are going down in past years but as an aus spinner taking that many wickets is amazing i am not saying ashwin is not anywhere but in there comparison imo lyon is better
@@abdullahakhtar384 Ashwin can only play against aus in aus. Lyon plays other teams that play spin worse and hence picks wkts. Ashwin has bowled better than lyon consistently across conditions.
@abdullahakhtar384 It's your opinion, so it's okay. For me, ashwin is much much better than lyon. The way indian batters have nullified lyon in the past 10 yrs without trouble, I can't rate him at all.
