    Clear instructions and "myths busted" that I thought were "facts". Very helpful! Many thanks!!

      Just because he says it, why do you think he’s busted myths? The statement about Walnuts only kill seedlings is utter nonsense.

    Can you please suggest what plants can grow well under a pine tree? Thanks!

    • @Gardenfundamentals1
      @Gardenfundamentals1  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That depends. Almost nothing grows under it if the branches are low to the ground - too shady and not enough water. If the tree is limbed up and the area watered more, you can grow most shade plants. Epimedium, hosta, and hellebore, American ginger, polmonaria

    I have been enjoying all of your video - and you made referance to how to pick plants for a shade garden... can you send me the link for that video as I can not find it.

    • @Gardenfundamentals1
      @Gardenfundamentals1  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am sorry - I never did produce those videos - I'll see what I can do in the next couple of months.
      I do have a list of favorite plants, with cultural info so you know which are for shade: www.gardenfundamentals.com/favorite-plants/
      Unfortunately, that is listed by name, not growing condition. I recently put these into an ebook which is organized by growing condition. If you "look inside" this book it will list the plants for shade in the table of contents (you don't have to buy it to see this list), and then you can look up the details in the above link for favorite plants. amzn.to/3hwhCAT

    Greetings from Atlanta. We have a sloped backyard that faces East and backs onto a ravine wooded area. Aside from creating a terrace which would very expensive because the materials could only be brought in through wheelbarrows, what else could I plant. Right now is just a hill of clay.

    What about the time of day of the Sun? For instance if the Sun is from 1 to 5 p.m. by spring equinox, then increasing thru summer?

    I have a Mulberry tree in my front yard.
    I am wanting to plant under it.
    I hopeful that Hosta, Elephant Ears, Ferns will grow there. Will these plants be successful here?

      All except elephant ears which like a lot more sun.

    What is full shade
    One side of my 2 storey house has full sun from morning till evening.
    Is that full sun?
    One side is hid from the sun from morning till evening. Is that full shade or low light or indirect sunlight?
    I have carport in the middle of my yard, it casts shade all day, I can still see and read under it when I lie down there out of sun. Is that full shade indirect sunlight or?
    I have a windowless fibro shed, I can still clearly see my way round in the daytime. Is that fullshade low light or indirect sunlight?

    • @Gardenfundamentals1
      @Gardenfundamentals1  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      In gardening circles full sun is anything over 6 hours of direct sun. Full shade is anything less than 4 hours direct sun.

    What about growing under 50 years old magnolia tree?? Which plants I can plant underneath?

    • @Gardenfundamentals1
      @Gardenfundamentals1  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Any - why would there be a problem?

    • @alizacooper2937
      @alizacooper2937 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm going to be facing this challenge. The good thing is the soil is monster than under a maple. The bad news is the density of the leaves. Map out the sun throughout the day. My magnolia is wide and low, but so beautiful that I don't want to limb it up. I think a lot of partial shade plants will do well on the east side with morning sun. The South side is my neighbors yard. The West side has another tree.

    RoundUp is carcinogenic. There have been successful lawsuits proving it causes Hodgkins Lymphoma. RoundUp is NOT less toxic than vinegar. I’m sure you’re very knowledgeable about gardening. Your idea that in order to control a weed you must understand how it grows, how it fruits, what the habit of the roots are makes lots of sense.
