    Good morning to my currency instructor! Quick question which I believe you would have an idea on my question. Went to my bank yesterday, & for some time I’ve been asking the tellers if they had the candy cane strap for $2 notes, and often they gave me the look as a deer getting headlights in its face, a somewhat lost look as to what I would be asking them; not a clue at any of the attempts that I would ask him or her even a drawing of a strap of $2 notes with the candy cane band tightly holding the notes in place. As I always ask the teller first up before getting my $1 notes to look thru. And yesterday the teller said I have some $2 notes that I kept for you, I said great thinking hardly any, but very thankful and appreciate them (teller) at least giving me a thought. The teller excused herself and another bank employee and the teller went into the vault. And upon the teller returning she handed me a strap of the candy cane $2 notes with that great fresh uncirculated, gem, never touched by human hands and I said thank you and took the whole strap. Exiting the bank, and arriving and now sitting in my truck in the parking lot I saw there was a star on the note on top, well heck every note had a star. All consecutive uncirculated $2 notes and the holy grail all 100 notes were star notes. Of course, bank in the bank I go hoping to grab another strap but that was the only one, the teller informed me she’ll order some more and next week the notes should arrive at the bank. I’m trying to get a fair price and sell. The consecutive numbers really do suck, not nothing there to get excited about but the fact that the notes are uncirculated and each one is a star not. And the notes come from California, San Francisco & the notes are 2017 A Series. 2017 would have been sweet if the top right star was completely filled in with green ink. I have one & I noticed you as well have one to add to your collection. Maybe, next week something a bit more handsome. So to you, what’s a price that’s fair for trying to resell the whole strap not really into one at a time, the whole wad??? Thanks for your help, & have a Grateful Day! ✌️

      Congratulations on the find! You should look up the top note to see what the print run is at mycurrencycollection.com to see if it’s a shorter print. I sold a strap of singles (stars) for $295 almost instantly on eBay. I’m not saying that they are 3x but it’s a decent starting point. Just remember that anything over face is pure profit.

      Thanks Stu, I appreciate your insight on the knowledge that you have bestowed upon me. I like to believe I know some currency facts and a huge window to look into. And you, have taught me and showed, explained, educated ect… myself to it all. Your the best currency individual out there on TH-cam to view currency videos, sure there are others but no sense really for myself to view their videos because, hands down your the man. I call you my Guru! And you tell myself & others the real deal. I’ve stomached a short amount of viewing the other videos & it’s hard there saying gas pump error which they have nothing, you showed on a video of yours, what a gas pump error is supposed to look like, the digest heck it’s almost off the note it’s way at the top of the note, not this raised a tiny/ nothing amount but they swear up & down on the amazing discovery they made, and a hard to even see what the heck their talking about with their ink smears/smudges there’s nothing there but again huge money makers. Im fortunate to say I do have several ones just like yours that you showed on your video,the real deal. And one more comment the birthday notes they have the numbers going forward, backwards this way & that ways with extra numbers that are there & I’m saying to myself there knuckleheads. Born and raised in California, all my life; I’ll turn 61 in the month of July. And I’m telling people and it was taught to me thru my educational years and there’s one way and only one way a birthday note, anniversary, graduation, special date in someone’s life, important date in history ect. And it goes just like this and again no other way begins with the month then followed by the date,then finishes with the year. (Example) 04131743, that’s a serial number on a two dollar note that I found and it reads in order April 13 1743, & that is the birthday for that person on the front and back of that note. It’s our third president, & yes he’s on a two dollar note. It’s Thomas Jefferson’s birthday note. That’s one of my birthday notes. In order not every which way in all kinds of directions and the video individual try’s to say oh boy another birthday note, no it’s a mess of numbers in no sequence of the correct way. Kinda, went a little far on that one, but for hands down, no b.s. you are the best and I thank you, & my headband is off to you, keep the videos coming & thank you for answering and the rapid response in answering my question. Have a Grateful Day! ✌️& thank you again Stu.

    How do we tell if we have a Mule?

    • @Stuplubakcurrency
      @Stuplubakcurrency  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The only definite way to know is if you have a book like "Standard guide to small size US paper money" (I have reviewed it in previous videos) or something like it. How ever, there are clues that can lead you in the right direction. For instance, if the front plate is very low (say, 25) and the back plate is very high say, 1137) there is a good chance that note is a mule. In this instance, they are clearly using up the last of the plates from the previous series. Another way is to look at the block letters. If the serial ends in the letter A, that is the very first time they are going through the numbers. You would expect a low plate number on the back. If it's high, you might have a mule. Hope this helps!

    What incredible notes to find in circulation, as you know there are less and less out there.I've been favoring more of small size notes recently.I scored a really nice 2006 radar Friday night,and my waitress friend hooked me up a 1953 $5 LT last night,AU condition,she's cool.I try to go through as many notes as I can at work, but by the time I do my drawer,its 3am,and I just want to go home, lol.I try to make connections with as many people in retail, servers,etc. as I can.

    Top ten consecutive notes
    How many do you have to have????
    To be worth $$$$

    • @Stuplubakcurrency
      @Stuplubakcurrency  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I personally don’t buy consecutive notes. I know people like them so I have no problem getting them from a bank and selling them. You won’t find a book value for it so I am cautious about it. You can check auction sales but it’s really up to what the person is willing to spend. Modern notes shouldn’t have a premium because you can go to the bank and order as many new notes as you like.

    My LCS owner told me that modern star notes aren’t really valuable because of the amount of star notes circulating these days. Do you find that to be true?

    • @Stuplubakcurrency
      @Stuplubakcurrency  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The average star note is only worth face value. That's why I look up the print runs. If you find a short printed note ( under 500k) those are worth something. In comparison, the "W" quarters are about $10 and nobody wants to buy them. Everyone wants to find them. Each design has 2,000,000 minted with 5 designs each year. Hear is some fun math. The 500k star note starts out worth 4x a quarter. Then they make 4x the number of quarters. So with a "W" worth $10, a rare star should be worth $10 x 4 x 4 = or $160!!! It's not, but the bigger question is... why not? And why pay so much for a quarter that's not really rare?!?

    So lets just say, hypothetically, that your bank is just a hole you dug in the back yard. Should I still be polite to the hole when I deposit and or withdraw the crumpled up singles that were hastily concealed? Or should that kindness instead be transferred to that squirrel I offered five bucks to, to keep watch over said hole?

  • @ekin2095
    @ekin2095 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    question, whenever you go to a bank you don't usually go to, do you let them know you collect bills or do you ask them if they have any special notes?

    • @Stuplubakcurrency
      @Stuplubakcurrency  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You have to “read the room”. If there is no one there, I tell them what I’m doing and I will quickly teach them something. I will explain a web note or tell them how much a note with all 1’s for a serial number is worth. Many times at that point they will get excited and want to show me the older notes they have set aside. By teaching them something first, it makes them want to give back in return. It’s a total psychological thing. Can you tell I play poker? I also printed some business cards with my phone number and TH-cam channel. This way they can find homes for old notes!

    So why wouldn't the bank teller want to keep them for him/herself seeing that it's uncommon and might be worth more? Sorry man but I don't "buy it"...

    • @Stuplubakcurrency
      @Stuplubakcurrency  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ummmm... Try this. Go to a bank. ANY bank. Get out of your car and go inside. Now ask the teller about "muted" bills. Ask them what they do with small heads. I have no doubt that SOME tellers keep SOME stuff. They can see 10s of thousands of notes a day! If they found just 1 cool $100 each day. they would spend $500 a week. One $100, a $50, a $20, and a $10 each day would be $900 a week. At some point, there entire paycheck would go to old notes. Then you have to figure condition. Then you have to find a way to sell them and deal with packing and shipping. After spending your entire paycheck on 20 notes, listing them and selling one $100 note for $120 in 4 weeks on ebay and then realizing ebay takes 10% and forgetting to include shipping costs as well as paying for the envelopes and sleeves, people lose interest and just mute them or save them for ANYONE who asks. The average person has no idea that a note with 11111111 will sell for thousands of dollars. The average person doesn't even know what a star note is! You not "buying it" is exactly what they think when I tell them this stuff. Many of them think i'm just crazy. Maybe I am but not because I collect currency!
