      Haha thanks, Rexx! I went away from the portfolio single shots that night at the arches and enjoyed showing the scene, the setting we were out adventuring! I liked them too so I am glad someone else did as well! I am excited to print them and put them in the studio as a memento of that trip and awesome night! I will start on Part 2 tonight and plan to fix my lag lately where my "Friday" release becomes sometime over the weekend or worse. Like this one that was supposed to be out LAST Friday but came out Tuesday....lol sigh Thanks for watching as always, Rexx! -Aaron

      @PhotogAdventures  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Heya Kirk! Yeah they are REALLY right on top of each other and easy to get shots in at both spots for the Milky Way but they are aptly named as the Sunrise arch is so low below the horizon you won't see enough of the horizon and sky to enjoy an awesome sunset but it does have a clear view of the Sunrise! I am getting to work on Part 2 tonight and it is going to be a fun one showing off the crappy roads, the day trips we took, the flat tire we had and then a lot of Dance Hall Rock area! :D -Aaron

    I love that you got into the single flower in the landscape. I kinda laughed because I did the same thing in June while at Cape Royal in North Rim...just weeks before the Obi Fire. Ya gotta love that out-of-place flora. :)

      Hey Alan! Sorry your comment got lost yesterday and I haven't responded to it yet! :D Thanks for the kind words! You really should try low level lighting. It is so much easier than Light Painting during the open shutter, it is consistent light that you can do a timelapse with and much less annoying to everyone around you! :D Thanks again, Alan and we will definitely keep up on the webinars! I am really enjoying them so I hope to do at least Two a month after this final presentation for the Beginner Milky Way Photography series I have been doing. -Aaron

    What a beautiful location. You are so lucky to be in such a great place. I live in St. Augustine Beach, Florida and it is pretty flat here though we have some great lighthouses that are cool to photograph.

      Oh man you can say that again, Tim! We really do find ourselves fortunate to have started a TH-cam channel here for Landscape and Astro...we feel like two guys who suddenly decided to sell oranges and looked up and realized we lived in the middle of miles of orange groves. Every direction we go we have access to more and more beautiful landscapes. We definitely know how lucky we are. But that said, I do love Lighthouses and have been wanting to get some Milky Way and sunrise/set images by a lighthouse. Haven't found that portfolio shot yet! Thanks for watching, Tim! -Aaron

    Well done guys! And you captured an aurora in Southern Utah! I want to come out there and set up my 15 inch Obsession telescope. I hate the monsoon weather.

      @PhotogAdventures  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, Debbie! It really was a COMPLETE surprise to EVER see an Aurora that far south. We didn't even realize what we had when we saw it, it was that unexpected. :D You would have a blast down here with your telescope. The 15-inch is an awesome size. I dream of a telescope like that someday where I can make out all the Messier objects. Now I can with my 6SE right now honestly, but it would be great to see the dimmer features thanks to the 15-inch light bucket you have! :D -Aaron

      It is REALLY fun having Brendon to go out with all the time. It is awesome! Haha alone it can feel creepy but I go alone all the time. I find myself walking around my house without turning the lights on as much at nights because I am getting so used to walking around in the dark. 😄 Still gets creepy every now and then but definitely better than a few years ago when I started going out alone in the dark with my telescope. Thanks for watching again, Nevada! Someday we will go out with you. It will be awesome! 😃 -Aaron

      Photog Adventures I like that you guys are using low level lighting as well! In my opinion it's the best way to light a landscape at night.

    • @PhotogAdventures

      Yeah! Completely agree! :D It helps in every way! Environmentally, for timelapses, for civility of those around you and it keeps your night vision unless you look right at it. I love it! I can't wait to get two or three more lights and light a huge scene someday :D -Aaron

    I just got back from the Tetons and Yellowstone and tried my first crack at astro in an area dark enough to shoot the milky. I had a full arc panorama and it turned out great! Going into it I really was skeptical that I would be able to photograph the milky way very well but after my first exposure seeing it on the LCD I got really excited and did not get much sleep, but it was worth every minute. Thanks so much for the inspiration to get out there and do for myself! I just ordered two 10 by 20 prints of the pano :)

    • @PhotogAdventures
      @PhotogAdventures  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      oh man that is awesome, Tobias!! :D Haha yeah that feeling when you pull out some of the Milky Way in your first image is surprising, expected but surprising still! It is so gratifying to see all of that show up especially in a panorama. That is really cool to hear! Yeah haha sleep is definitely something that comes second to Astro. You just don't get any sleep on the nights you do Milky Way photography...practically none! :D Thanks for sharing, Tobias! Hope the image looks awesome printed! I bet it will! -Aaron

    • @tobiasyoder
      @tobiasyoder 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      My print just arrived today and it looks really nice! I will differently keep it up on my wall. :) Also, how clearly could you see the aurora with just your eyes? I had no idea it went as far down as Utah. Also what day were you there? I guess I was under the misconception that you could only see it in winter haha.

    • @PhotogAdventures
      @PhotogAdventures  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha sweet! Your picture must look awesome on your wall. :D I got to print my stuff...I haven't printed anything for a year! And even then it was a cheap self-print. I got to get with it.
      We actually could not see the aurora with our eyes. It just looked like regular highlights on the horizon. It wasn't until our camera took an image with 13 seconds exposure that we realized it was this crazy pink! And even then we didn't realize it was Aurora because we just don't expect it to be visible this far south. :D Now, you are not wrong about the aurora being a winter thing. You might know all this already, so forgive me if you do. But basically the aurora can happen every day. Some tiny some large enough to see. Aurora is just what it looks like at our poles when our planet's magnetosphere is deflecting the solar wind and bombardment we get from the sun.
      So there isn't a season for Aurora as much as there is a season that is best for SEEING the aurora. Typically winter for the long nights. Places where Aurora are a thing of tourism, especially northern Aurora Borealis, it occurs at locations very high in latitude on the earth. Alaska, Canada, Greenland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden etc. Those places are the common best places to see the aurora in the northern hemisphere. And it is best during the northern hemisphere's winter months because the sun will actually be down below the horizon enough to go fully dark. During the summer it never goes low enough and sometimes not at all so you can't see the dim auroras.
      You aren't wrong at all about being in winter, just added more to it thinking that it happened only in winter. :D -Aaron

    • @tobiasyoder
      @tobiasyoder 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's really cool! Some time in my life I would like to go some place where I can see the Aurora, probably Alaska. When it comes to printing, to me the photo does not seem "finished" until I have a physical copy. It also is nice to see my photos on a day to day basis rather than every few weeks when I go back through my photos in lightroom or when I update my portfolio. :)

    I see. I as never been out west Aaron. I do own a quadcopter with the video camera. I am intrigued by photographing the Milkyway. It was only a few years ago that I saw, the Milkyway, for the first time. Here is one place, in Maine, you might want to pop into Photopills. Baxter State Park in Maine. No Campers, pristine wilderness/wildlife and a few mountains and dark skies. They have lean-tos there. I have camped there. Some camp areas are very flat, it is DARK. Very Dark!! Anyhow,, just a wee tip.

    Question here, I usually shoot at ISO 640-1000 on my GH5, why did you guys have it so high? Whats the difference, lets just say, of a shot that is ISO 800 with SS of 25 seconds f2.5 compared to your ISO 3200 with SS of 6 seconds f2.5?? Just trying to learn a little more about it! Thank you and awesome video!

    Great stuff guys as usual.....one suggestion .... the only thing lacking in the show notes is the date of your trips.,,,possible to start adding that info.....it would be great for us out of staters for trip planning.

    • @PhotogAdventures
      @PhotogAdventures  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha that is crazy you are the FIRST person to ask for that because as I was watching the video for my final QA before loading to TH-cam I had the SAME THOUGHT for the very first time myself! :D Never before did I think about how I should include date for the images taken or dates we are out there and yet I saw the Aurora note I put in and thought for the first time that I should have said WHEN that was. I am really glad that you asked that because now it is sealed. I will DEFINITELY start adding that into all our videos. I agree that it would be useful info and help especially when we have so many videos in the Queue that we are only now releasing an adventure from the last week in May! So, thanks for asking about that and thanks for watching Johnny! :D -Aaron
      P.S. That trip was over May 26th - 29th 2017

    Another excellent video guys. Very informative and I just love your photos. You are really inspiring me to get back to Utah again. I just loved it. Where exactly is sunset and sunrise arch? I tried locating them on google earth but couldn't find them.

    • @PhotogAdventures
      @PhotogAdventures  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you, Frank! Thanks for always coming back and watching. 😃 Yeah Utah is a treasure trove for Milky Way Photography. I am loving it here. Going to be impossible to ever move most likely! So those Arches are just North of Dance Hall rock at these spots. Sunset Arch: 37.375835, -111.048416 and then Sunrise arch is at: 37.372938, -111.047347 just simply copy and paste these coordinates into Google Maps and it will load the spots for ya!
      REALLY love this area! Other than the ridiculously uncomfortable roads I will feature more in part two, the place was great! 😃 -Aaron

      Sorry for the delay, Frank, and everyone honestly! Brendon and I started work on the Podcast last night by 7pm and then were busy with it and other pending work until 2am. Sometimes we just have a ton to do! Sorry it delayed my responses here! :D
      Okay so I edited the original message with this info now. Not sure why the Google Maps app was so terrible with that. Sunset Arch: 37.375835, -111.048416 and then Sunrise arch is at: 37.372938, -111.047347 just simply clicking on those should open your map at the right location but in case that doesn't work just copy and paste them into Google Maps.

    • @PhotogAdventures
      @PhotogAdventures  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Heya David! Yeah man....our website update is taking longer as I went in a direction with the update that Brendon and I decided just wasn't necessary. Sorry about that! More about that below. But the quick answer is that we have our first paid workshop happening later this year in September. 2018 is going to be our first big year of workshops that we will be announcing here this month and next. As for August, we will be out at the Eclipse during the New Moon and then nothing is formally planned for the end of August. Yet! We always get out and it wouldn't be a bad time to do a Listener Adventure. Send me an email at aaron at photogadventures dot com and let me know what days you are here. We can set something up! :D It would be a blast! -Aaron
      As for the Website...The website for the past year was a repository of everything we have done. All Podcasts and Videos were getting posted there but since we had them elsewhere, a site with ONLY them was terribly redundant and unnecessary. So we want to use the website instead as a place to check Podcast Show Notes, find the gear we use for those curious, see the Photog Favorite Photographer and image of the month, learn about workshops and free upcoming Listener Adventures and about us.
      So I had to restart my work there and am on my way to releasing it to the public again. It has taken much longer than the first one because my time is already claimed by Podcast and TH-cam video edits not to mention getting out and creating the content. :)

    • @PhotogAdventures

      Heya Charles! Thanks and no we haven't yet! It is on our list though. It's one of those spots we hope to hit when we go out to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon and Page area next. They include that in the Wave permit right? Or at least it is a permit only place now? I haven't checked more into it and just checking now it is confusing on whether it already IS permit only or not. -Aaron

    • @morbly
      @morbly 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually, the White Pocket doesn't require a permit. You'll just need a good 4 wheel drive vehicle and sand driving skills, the sand gets pretty deep.

    • @PhotogAdventures
      @PhotogAdventures  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh awesome! I love and hate permits mostly because we have last minute plans all the time and I like not needing to plan so far in advance. But love that permits help keep a place low traffic and relatively hard to get to and safe. Sounds like another reason to get out on a Can-Am! Sounds nerve-wracking but a lot of fun to get out there! Just moved up on my list! Especially before Horseshoe Bend DOES become Permit only. :D Thanks for the info, Charles! -Aaron

    Anyone own a Quadcopter with Video? Have you ever thought of going up inside this arch and taking a photo straight upwards? Dim lighting of underside of the arch to show a little depth...

    • @PhotogAdventures
      @PhotogAdventures  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Haha would be awesome! But unfortunately, Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument is one of those places with a full BAN on all quadcopters and drones. Sadly, the standard go to these days is to not allow them. My only hope is that as they become more small, quiet and safe that they will be allowed with a PAID yearly permit where people like Brendon and I can buy into so we can use the video footage in our TH-cam stuff. I figure if no one knows they are there and there is absolutely no safety risk, they should be allowed but only by those that pay. Making it something that doesn't swarm the national parks but also being so small and unnoticeable it will hopefully be a non-issue to everyone. :D -Aaron

    • @PhotogAdventures
      @PhotogAdventures  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Heya Jerry! Yes you are correct and actually when Jeff Pedersen told me about the places we were going to go on this trip I did the same thing! There is a Devil's Garden in Arches as well but the spot we are at in this video is best found pasting this into Google Maps: "Devils Garden Parking Area, Escalante, UT" that will get you to the spot we were at. Other than the road being TERRIBLE to drive on - not dangerous just annoying with its constant wash boards you are bouncing on all the time - it is a really easy place to get to. The whole family can have fun out here and see some sweet scenery. :D Thanks for watching! -Aaron

    • @kd5oldman
      @kd5oldman 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the reply. 4 wheel drive a must, huh? I will be in my RV towing a Mini Cooper. Neither are good off road vehicles.

    • @PhotogAdventures
      @PhotogAdventures  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No no sorry. I realized I was making it sound worse than I should have. You can make it there in your RV. The road is graded and fantastic for most vehicles. It was nuts we even saw a big moving truck out there! And another group in a crazy low clearance sporty looking car that they somehow made it on that one road that DID have a lot of large gaps and trenches out there by the Sunset Arch parking area. But for Devil's Garden, you can make it there EASY! :D Sorry I made that confusing. I was just saying how annoying the road is because you vibrate the whole time. Makes 40-minutes on it tiring fast. Your big RV will probably handle it easier than Brendon's Outlook did for us. :D -Aaron

      Yep exactly! It was late May. I already have a longing for that low of a Milky Way again where you can get an easy Pano with it. Out at Crater Lake and Bandon Oregon I experienced some glitches with my panos because I didn't accommodate the really high in the sky arch enough to avoid stretching...I have to manually stitch in PTGui now...but that will be fine :D Another comment below asked us to start putting our dates in our videos and he is right, we definitely should be doing that.
      We are going out once or twice a month so it is pretty impossible right now with our day jobs to not have a queue so this one came from a trip in May and our next two videos comes from a trip in June. Then we have July content next unless I am forgetting about a small photog adventure we did in June....don't think so. Pretty sure it was July we hit several spots next after Crater Lake. Thanks for watching again, Ryan! -Aaron

      Well...Your videos are produced wonderfully, and you in particularly have a very good "broadcast" approach...if that makes sense. The production of the channel is fantastic. I think it is just a matter of time until your subscriptions explode because you're definitely on the right path.

      On a side note...I tried my first MW panorama a couple weeks ago during the July New Moon out in Joshua Tree. It was hard because the arch was already high at 10PM, so I know what you mean about wanting April and May to come quicker. lol.

      Wow that is awesome to hear! Thanks for the really kind words, Ryan! We work hard on the production yet I always feel we are missing some great B-roll or context every time I edit these. So it makes me excited to hear that you are liking what we already have done, because as we get better gear the production value will only go up! Always feel free to let me know if there is anything you wished we had included or did less of etc. Always good to have that feedback. Thanks again, Ryan! -Aaron

      haha exactly! I can't believe it is August now and we are only 3-months away from no longer seeing the core at my latitude...Out at Crater I thought my panos would do fine but I made the mistake of going wider than just 180-degrees out in front of my and I cut off my image at the top just above the Milky Way. No matter how I approach it in Lightroom, LR just does not like the pano and folds the top in weird ways. I have had such a hard time with it for the first time that I want to record my process of resolving it to help others AND show where I went wrong and explain why that can break LR's stitching. -Aaron

    Did any of you guys saw the guy standing still at 02:03 ? lol

    • @PhotogAdventures
      @PhotogAdventures  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hahaha yep! I wondered if people would see him at first! :D I actually made the cut there in the shot because he is in BOTH shots and helps anchor that the moment is the same moment in both camera angles. :D How did you like the wide angle shot of us out there? I really liked that it gave people a perspective of how silly we look walking around, hand outstretched holding a camera and having long conversations into while walking through these iconic places. haha XD -Aaron

      That second camera is a nice addition! :-) And yeah, it's a funny view to see you guys talk with the selfiestick lol
      Maybe at some more B-roll? That would make the transitions a bit smoother

      Yeah I didn't get enough B-Roll that trip for sure. Sometimes I worry that yet another shot looking outside the car window is something no one wants. So I tried getting some different B-roll moments in the Oregon video. Hope it works out well. :D And we won't always have a second camera. We were just lucky that Jeff Pedersen was with us AND willing to go up on the rocks and record us walk in. Made it fun! :D -Aaron

      Get a drone! lol :P Or set up your 70D somewhere, get some b-roll. You would hike the trail maybe three times, but I think it will be awesome!
      Anyway, I really like your video's! It's nice to see you guys going from like 100 subs, to 2k+ now!

    • @PhotogAdventures
      @PhotogAdventures  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      haha already have a drone and already do that where I hike the trail ahead lay down the GoPro on the GorillaPod legs and then walk to it or walk passed it and go back to get it. Sounds like I need to do that more. As for the drone...we can't use it enough. Every place bans their use and we go to National Parks, State Parks and National Monuments the most. So we have been out of luck with the drone. BUT those few places where we COULD use it the Inspire Drone is way too big and cumbersome to bring along. We got to get our Mavic so we can pull it literally out of our pockets more. :D
      Hey thanks for noticing that! Crazy to think you have been around since 100 subs and now we are up to 2k. With the increased pace we are experiencing around 400 subs a month. So if it doesn't speed up more, we will definitely get to 5k by the end of the year and I expect to be somewhere between 7k and 10k at the end of December. So I am pretty excited about that! :D
      Thanks for being a great fan who has been willing to watch our live feeds too, Matthijs! Bedankt! -Aaron

    Interesting, but the "uplifting music" is annoying.

      Heya, Louis. Which one did you not like or was it both of them? -Aaron

      Was it the one with the nonsense lyrics? The first song? If so, I can get your point. It was really on the fence for me but fit so perfectly otherwise. I try to use new songs every video and that usually means 1-3 hours of listening through my options on Epidemic Sound to find good fits. So sometimes the song is not perfect but the best of the options I had crossed in my search. Hopefully you like the song choices in our other vids. 🙂 Thanks for watching still, Louis! -Aaron
