I also think if more doll collector’s focused on the therapy aspects of the doll hobby then maybe people would be more respectful and understanding but some people are just rude and nasty and like to bring others down but that says more about them as bullies that shouldn’t be listened too Let’s all try to support each other and spread the positive aspects of this wonderful hobby ❤️ it’s not for everyone but why can’t people just Live and let live XX
I love change and chats! I'm definitely embarrassed about the hobby. Traditional collecting dolls is seen as for children or for old lonely/crazy ladies and not 21 year olds. I don't personally agree with that, but I know that if I were to share my hobby others would wonder what's wrong with me, or what is missing in my life to where I need to fill it with pieces of plastic. There is also the monetary side of the hobby, these are often expensive pieces of plastic that others see as a waste. So I keep it to myself and put them away when others visit, but that's fine with me as they still give me comfort and make me happy.
Why people feel they should be judgemental is sad, people collect all sorts of thing I don`t see this is any different they are a beautiful form of art, I have a collection of one who I got this year, he is an Everlee sculp by Sabine Altenkirch and Peter as my husband named him (After Peter Pan the boy who never grew up) is great for a cuddle if I feel stressed. Sadly I am sure because I have no children I would be judged but I am an Aunt to 27.
I don't find this hobby embarrassing. I feel that you shouldn't do anything you feel ashamed of. Be yourself at all costs. People's opinions of you don't matter. This hobby is meant to be enjoyed and shared.
Thanks for your chat. I can totally understand you; that's why I keep this hobby for myself, only two of my friends know about it, and our children do know (but they don't understand it either). It felt as if I had a hidden life next to my life, so I wanted to tell a good friend, but I now understand that's not true that I've a hidden life, because when there was more acceptance of this hobby, I would be happy to share it with my friends. Happily, I can share it on my You Tube channel. I'm grateful that I've met people like you, who understand this hobby. I am waiting for my first baby (currently WIP) and the only ones I've told are my mom and my close friend. I also have ADHD & PTSD so mine will be a "therapy baby" as well. My friend was sadly medically unable to have children and her young son (adopted) is autistic so she is fully supportive and understands firsthand the advantages of my getting him! She is also very respectful with my feelings and keeping it private from others:)

He's also being created by Miss Mandy Marks (Chrysalis Dolls); I'm so exited to hold my little man, knowing how much love and care she gives each baby:)
I too just received a LouLou doll for Xmas & loving her😁. I don't really care about what people think, I stay true to myself & I do take out my dolls regularly to create awareness for doll therapy benefits. I am finding people receiving my dolls really well in my area & are asking to bring a doll every week to my local post office where the ladies working there and customers enjoy cuddling them, and they get disappointed when I don't bring one ie when it rains. People need to accept me for who I am just as I accept myself 😊
I have 4 kids from 25 to 8. I'm not embarrassed by my reborns. I dont take them everywhere all the time but I do love bringing them out when I can. They are a great relief of anxiety and pain. I can understand your feelings as being a newer mommy but I will say, for my sons, the babies have been great to teach my sons to be gentle.

I personally am sometimes really embarrassed to share my reborn hobbie,not because its weird but because of the world we live in today has pressured me into thinking that it is weird as some people have negative reactions, but seeing a lot of people have so much confidence made me have more as well,something my mom used to tell me was that if someone gives u a weird look in public give them a weird look back
Yay for baby Lou Lou! I finally found an artist selling one and I got a Lou Lou finally, yay! I find it hard to find time to enjoy my reborns, being a single mom. And man I have wondered how I would introduce my reborns to potential men I would date, LOL!
I’m not embarrassed by the hobby, but I am selective about who I share with. My husband and so don’t understand it, but they don’t have a problem (except perhaps the price) and I’m a teacher, so I have one at school. My aide loves it, and the middle schoolers get it because we have the real-care dolls. I’m looking forward to my first doll show in June. But I do have relatives who think they are Odd or creepy, so I just don’t share the hobby with them.

Okay. It’s called the uncanny valley, and collecting dolls IS becoming more common and popular.

Do you think the Apple TV series Servant made doll collecting (especially of more realistic looking infant dolls) more or less stigmatized?
