- On Sept. 17, 1861, a skirmish at Morristown, Missouri resulted when Union troops attacked Confederates recruiting for the Missouri State Guard. Using the diorama he created, Jay Roberts details the events.
I always wondered about that "Battle of Morristown" sign near Freeman. Thanks for explaining it in such detail. Much appreciated.
And Morristown eventually moved to a new site (a flatter area where a railroad could come through) and it was renamed Freeman.
Excuse me, the gentleman is in error to call the Missouri State Guard "Confederate." They were a state militia, not a Confederate army and only existed two years.
