    Brilliant. I was born and bred in Belfast and it holds so many memories for me. Each little street, road, and shop reminds me of my childhood and of my parents and sister ( no longer with us ). Tears in my eyes as I watched. Thank you.

      Thank you so very much for that Alan… I’m so happy that it brought back so many memories for you..that was one of the reasons I started to record my walks around the city.
      You’ve made it all worthwhile 👍
      Thanks again & look after yourself

    Belfast has fairly changed since I been in it. Remember years ago the old leisure world. The old cannon cinema. The old Smithfield market. And barricades in nearly every street patrolled by the British army. It's nice to see it's turned into a beautiful city. What that poor city had to put up with over the years it deserves it.

    • @walker6772
      @walker6772  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes joe it has changed so much & all for the better, I remember leisure world & the ABC cinema myself, it’s great that the “troubles” are behind us & Belfast finally has a chance to shine.

    • @joemcconnell2674
      @joemcconnell2674 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@walker6772 that's right forget all about that. It was also called the ABC beside the old theatre which is no longer there either. I think the opera House is still there. Not sure though.

    • @walker6772

      @@joemcconnell2674 opera house is very much still there, getting a bit of work done to it plus it’s closed at the moment due to COVID-19
      Usually at this time the Christmas pantomime would be in full swing.
      Also no Xmas market in city hall grounds this year. Hopefully next year will be better 🤞

      You might be surprised how much the city has changed even in the last 3 years, let alone 30 years. In the last 5 years a lot of the government departments moved from the city centre to the Industrial estates and provincial towns. The banking sector shrunk massively and you’ll be lucky to find one branch in the town let alone a half dozen of yesteryear. The contraction of retail in general, in favour of on line shopping, has hit Belfast hard. All this It certainly took some of the hustle and bustle out of the place long before covid ever quietened the streets. I’d really like to see the whole city centre pedestrianised, this would help the cafe culture massively with safe open spaces to walk, shop and enjoy the green spaces that could be reclaimed through pedestrianisation.

      @@batandball617 Belfast looks great. Seems to be cleaner than Dublin, I don't know. Must take a trip to see it sometime. Looks like a busy place and easy to get around. Hope the troubles are behind for good and Belfast can flourish. Good luck to the people of Belfast for the future. 👍

  • @jelip5380
    @jelip5380 3 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    compared to dublin it looks cleaner, newer and not so full with people. is that correct? would you say belfast is as good as dublin regarding friendlyness etc.?

    • @walker6772
      @walker6772  3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Thanks for your comment, firstly there’s not so many people about because of COVID-19 etc.. it’s usually a lot busier. I’d say Belfast & Dublin would be equally as friendly as each other, Belfast has certainly taken off in recent years & will continue to do so. If you’ve never been before please visit, you won’t be disappointed.

      Yes you’re right Belfast is a lot cleaner city than Dublin, I’m English and moved to Belfast 13 years ago and also visited Dublin, I wasn’t much for Dublin it felt to congested and Belfast is a lot more spread out and great vibe to, Belfast really is an awesome city

    • @adrianduggan4739
      @adrianduggan4739 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dublin City centre is for the most part laid out a few hundred years previous to Belfast - and so, along with the new developments since the troubles - Belfast city centre is newer. Dublin’s Docklands would be a better example of a newer area of Dublin. Also the city centre of Belfast is vastly commercial and the metropolitan area adds up to 670,000 - Dublin still retains a residential core in parts and has a metropolitan area of around 1.5 million. In terms of litter and rubbish however, yes - Belfast always seems to be kept cleaner.

    What surprised me the most is the European feel of the city. It's part of UK but somehow doesn't look anything like let's say Edinburgh or Glasgow for example. If it wasn't for the litter bins and the double-deckers I would bet it is somewhere in Europe.
