    Shane thank you for going all the way to Germany to bring this content to us, this is a real look into ultra high end stuff that the public rarely gets to see.

    also - great call out @ 6:40 about the assumption about bigger drivers having higher group delay - definitely untrue - the cone doesn't have to move as much as a smaller woofer so

    Do you need a huge enclosure to reproduce infrasonics?
    No! As long as you have enough port area, you can get infrasonics.
    Do you need a huge subwoofer to reproduce infrasonics?
    No! It all depends on how low your enclosure tuning is. In fact, I have a pair of 8” subs that can shake your body at 17Hz in a PVC T-line enclosure.
    Are harmonics present when a subwoofer plays infrasonic frequencies? Answer: Yes and No. Yes if your enclosure is not tuned low enough and No if your ARE tuned low enough.
    -
    This is what happens when people have experience with one particular way of doing things but no experience with T-line enclosures and the like.
    They tend to spread misinformation to the public.

    • @therealshanelee
      @therealshanelee  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Just asking. I believe this space is 37x27x20. Will your 8" fill this theater space? I'll relay the message.

    • @Bassotronics
      @Bassotronics ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@therealshanelee
      I was not referring to filling up
      a space. That’s relative to each person’s home or wherever they are in. If your space is that big then yes, you will either need more smaller drivers or one bigger driver in the appropriate enclosure(s).
      Displacement is key as well as the enclosure to be able to go as low or as high if properly built.

    • @therealshanelee
      @therealshanelee  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@Bassotronics well he's discussing the subwoofer that was made for this specific theater we are in.

    • @Bassotronics
      @Bassotronics ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@therealshanelee
      Just to add.. this speaker was built with all the parts that a midbass woofer uses. (Accordion surround etc..)
      If you look at how Car audio subwoofers are built with oversized suspension and capable of huge amounts of displacement, I suggest a better option with great sound quality would be a pair of Stereo Integrity 24” Subwoofers in a sealed enclosure. They are true subwoofers designed for home theater. The resonant frequency is in the teens.

    • @therealshanelee
      @therealshanelee  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Bassotronics not questioning either of your choices but I've heard dual si 24's and I highly doubt they'd hit the same and dig as deep in this room as the single 80". Multiple 24's sure. But 2. I doubt it.

    I am not so sure about his comments on group delay. At 20Hz most subwoofer tests show below 2.5ms for any commercial subs. Most sealed quality 15 inch subs or 18 inch subs are below 1ms. Ported SVS subs do tend to go nuts in group delay below 20Hz. But generally I need a better explanation of what he meant. Audholics, data-bass and others give group delay. His comments don’t match.

    • @RossNygren
      @RossNygren ปีที่แล้ว +12

      I think you're confusing milliseconds with sound cycles. Audioholics recommends group delay stay below 1 to 1.5 sound cycles, but 1 sound cycle at 20 hz, for example, is around 50 ms.

    • @therealshanelee
      @therealshanelee  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Home theater gear isn't a good investment no matter how you look at it. It depreciates the second you open the box. It's for entertainment only. If you can afford the best then you get something like this. If not there's always best buy and Amazon.
