- Working in a gun shop for many years, i had this question posed to me thousands of times, and this time on The Gun Review we are going to test them against each other.
We will obviously be looking at plenty of other stuff too - Classic Winchester Hunting Rifles, Spanish gun factories and ballistics!
Enjoy!

At 20 thousand pounds it suddenly becomes affordable!? I'm in the wrong job!
I'm so happy i found you channel. Most gun channels on youtube are American and, though entertaining, attitude towards gun culture is so differrent to most Europians. In addition Brits and Finns always get along perfectly in many ways, especially humor. Keep up the good work 👍
13:04 20k=affordable. And, he said that with a straight face.😅
Guy does it all the time... I think it's because he's used to talking to more affluent clientele. Because I don't think he makes quite what I make, I don't mean that it's like a bad thing. I'm just saying, I think it's just because he's used to talking to more affluent clientele, because I think they have a shop too
Glad I'm not the only one who had a chuckle at that... I guess like vehicles, I'll let someone else byte the initial depreciation... and will look for it on the used market later on ;-)
As a small game hunter I started on sub 12 many years ago and it was the foundation of everything i can do today, they're amazing and I sorely miss having one and will do again sooner rather than later.
22 is another world for the small game hunter and definitely worth the effort to get an FAC.
I use 17HMR exclusively these days, this is like the next level. I dont feel a need for anything more than this for small game, it's perfect.
FAC airguns have their place and their limitations. I shoot mine in some environments where a rimfire would be inappropriate and would render a higher risk of ricochets, yet knocks over rabbits very efficiently. BUT, being a 20 year old PCP it is pellet fussy and the shot count is awful. It's also the physically largest thing in my gun cabinet by a long way.
Really enjoyed this format showing exactly where each platform has its strengths & weaknesses.
Love airguns, just too bad no body around here cares for it, everyone thinks it is child’s toy. I own a few 12 foot pound air rifles, and a few fac air rifles. Just love everything gun, or something to do with guns. That lever action is a thing of beauty.
I love airguns too, but I live in Scotland so I've opted to start shooting shotguns instead as the license costs basically the same amount. Ammo definitely costs more though. I'm considering adding an air weapon certificate to my SGC though, there's a local clay ground with an indoor air rifle range, very tempting in these cold miserable months.
Hi JC & Crew. On a Spanish note I just picked up a 1961 Miguel Larranaga 12g sidelock from Holts. I must admit it is one of the best guns I have shot. It is so pointable and a smile of a gun. Good vid btw and the cost of some of those rifles is wild, looking back at my BSA Comet days!!!
"digital death scope" 😂😂
A decent FAC air (30-35 ft lb.) is great for squizzers and rats, (where a .22lr is simply too much gun)... but... beyond 50 meters, the ONLY justification for FAC air is... 'I just want one'.
.22lr is more reliable, more versatile, and far more cost-effective.
FX are fan-boy rifles; nowt wrong with that... just need to accept it. 😊
Great video, really interesting to see. I always wondered what the comparison would be like
Great rifles, Winchester ( Yellow Boy ) I've had a Winchester O/U
For England, you really don't need a super good pcp to hit 12 foot pounds. A better calibrated broom with elastic and that's it.
Quality episode!
As you all said, most people start with the sub 12 ft pound 👍🏻
Thanks for not shooting Pepsi 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thoroughly enjoyed as always gents
Gun with gold on it...did you wipe Jonny's dribble off and oil her? 🤣
You can’t shoot a heavier projectile with an FX without retuning
Great fun.
And nice to see you.
It’s such a shame that you dropped airguns from your regular vids but it’s nice to catch up.
ATB 🎯
£20,000 is about $39,000 aussie colonial dollars. Thats more than all my rifles and scopes put together. And i own 9. 3 sakos in that lot too. 😂
Which EE glasses are you wearing and, are they prescription lenses please? Great film as always!
British people with an(admittedly fuckin cool) £3K 25 cal air rifle:
Me an American with a $150 17 HMR that I just recently stuck a $50 scope on
It’s elk on the medallion. Is it a Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation edition? They’ve done them for Ducks Unlimited, and a few other organizations.
Great Video 💯💥💥💥💥💥💥💥
Top gear but guns! Realy enjoyed that boys
I really liked this guys.
.22WMR give you better reach. My opinion, I'm not rimfire guy so full disclosure, it's maybe the option anyone should use for pest control followed closely by the 22lr.
Henry makes lots of good rifles for them. Their U.S. Survival Rifle isn't a good idea for North American backcountry survival, but it is a good through in the truck bed gun. I'd go with their Lever Action .22 Magnum Express if you want a scope. I'd rather have their Pump Action Octagon; classic Americana.
Pest control in the U.K. is quite a bit in residential areas of factory’s after they close so modern air rifles are very effective and quiet
22wmr is generally not very accurate. Some quality 22lr ammo will outshoot 22wmr out to 100 yards. Hopefully the ammo manufacturers will step up their quality in 22wmr soon.
@@glenkl6465 I'm not seeing anything wrong with it. Where do you live?
@@glenkl6465 It might be something to do with the ammunition you have available, sometimes parts of the planet are not getting some of the best ammunition in particular things. I could also be the guns you're using because there are a lot of really cheaply made guns chambered in that round. I don't necessarily mean cheap guns, I mean cheaply made guns. Some of the big boys are producing some pretty good things, and they're making their profits in bulk. Because you know they produce so many.
Do you now the Huglu GX512 12/76 semi auto shotgun i am thinking about bying it
johnny try out the panthera hunter compact 177 or 22 sub 12 with pard ds 35 70 gen 1 or the pard ds 35 50 gen 3 that wat i have in 177 set up the belistic calulator to the pellets or knockout slugs 13.43gr pellets hades 10.34 gr or diabolo exact 8.44gr theres a great test for you for michael
Try 300 yards with a .22
What’s that jacket johnnys got
It’s like m81 night vison camo
👍 👍
The real test is doing it all again, offhand, standing, with the rifle to your shoulder. 40 years ago I had an .22 HW80 and that kicked out about 34lbs (I never had an FAC either), I was hitting tin cans at 100 yards standing, 9 times outta 10, and although my Optima scope had an etched glass reticle with windage dots etc, it was nowhere near as good as the Digital scope on that HW110.
What brand is the hogsaddle and tripod?
Bog death grip
£1000 is once again in need of of a divide by 100 for a scope absolute CON huge CON
You did not call a £20,000 gun "affordable"...
Im looking at the hatsan sniper L in .25 cal. Did you get a chrono on what that M3 was pushing at high power?
That's a nifty gun, what are you going to use it for? Diana Mauser K98 PCP Air Rifle is cheaper, might be cooler. To be honest though, air rifles are really only used for barn shooting where I live (something in your barn, and you don't want to tear it up). So maybe you need something stronger?
@matthewdeepblue hey matt I run a pest control business so I'm looking for a long range rabbiting rifle. To be honest the sniper S looks capable too like a poor man's panthera
@@MJSherwood and what kind of environment are we talking? I mean urban, ultra urban, suburban, rural? What kind of distances? I'm assuming you want something that's not going to mess up a building.
@@MJSherwood Norica Viriatus 2.0 Bp or Umarex Walther Reign UXT 22 Caliber?
@matthewdeepblue rural usually open field where shots outnto 100 yards is possible. I like the reign. I have an RM8 it's a good platform but I don't need a bulpup for this use case. It will be shot off sticks or prone with a bipod
First comment on a first class channel
Congratulations
@@catherinefallon4097 it’s been a great day for me
@@catherinefallon4097for whatever reason, I think there's a lot of Johnny Carter fans. I think there's a Johnny Carter fan and a fan 2. which is frankly a little bit strange to me. And I don't think Johnny Carter understands either. I'm just saying if that's what that is about ha
@@matthewdeepbluethis is the original Jonny Carter fan account. When TH-cam gave everyone usernames they named this ‘jonnycarterfan2’ for whatever reason
@@jonnycarterfan that sounds like propaganda to me
It's not the rifle, it's the shooter
Was Michael standing to shoot :P
It certainly looks that way. I mean the tripod would steady the gun, but what's going to steady him?
@@matthewdeepbluehe was barely above the height of them seated... wee little man lol
21:07 those don't look like white tail. More like elk, could be mule deer. That doesn't look white tail to me in the nose.
A fun one for ure
I’m lucky 3
7:53. 20:29👌👌👌
Airgun Vs rimfire 2 way range death for you. Lack of experience and knowledge would lead to even asking .
Agenda Noted.
Rimfire 🤔Airgun, anyone who is thinking of buying a Airgun must factor in that these modern PCPs are incredibly complicated internally with many different seals inside , 😳and will go wrong at some point.
Some brands are more unreliable than others but even some of the high end ones have bad reputations for reliability and can end up back and forth to the gunshop for repairs 😔 wasting your time and money 🤨
Thats why for pest control I've stuck with my trusty HW95k sub 12ft/lb
Ahhhhhhhhh, i really wish you guys had a proper airgun shooter to join you for this one, such a shame.
It was painful to watch the explanations of slugs and pellets, and how airguns work.
Then, topping that off, throwing some 30gr ZAN slugs in the fx, set up for totally different slugs, expecting them to group was extremely amateur.
You didn't even get the ZAN slugs to test in different sizes, you just expected them to work.
I shoot .22,
these slugs come in a bunch of sizes, mainly.... .215 .2155, .216, .2165, .217, .2175, .218......
At different states of tune, the gun will often like a different size.
Your fx was set up for 25gr...... the optimum speed for accuracy is usually 960-980fps, which it will have been set for.
If you throw a 5gr heavier slug in the barrel, it'll likely drop out of the accuracy 'window' where the pellet is spun and fired at just the right velocity to keep the slug stable.
I'll not even get into you naming daystate and fx as the only real 'high power' players in the game, daystate aren't even in the top 5.
If you need any help with airguns in the future please don't hesitate to give me a shout😂
Phil @ ONE-TEN WORKS 😊
Wind does NOTHING to the pellet / bullet. Slomo guys exploded DYNAMINTE on the path of a bullet and it did NOTHING to the trajectory :D wind can shake the shooter but not a bullket. at long distances it can deviate a sentimeter or two but thats about it.
The finish/engraving on that Holland & Holland is awfull , looks cheap and nasty , shame
Sorry accidentally clicked thumbs down , my apologies fat fingers
I love the look at air guns but you need to come to America and try some real air guns such as the AirForce Texan or even the AEA .72 caliber. I am sorry but talking about sub 12ft lb compared to an FAC to even the lowest power American air rifle is a joke. We have air pistols that are more powerful than your FAC air rifles.
I think you are missing a bit point. Almost anyone can buy and own a sub 12 airgun in the UK. Anything above that is treated the same as a powder burner with very tight restrictions.
Any gun above a sub 12 airgun has to be applied for and in most cases justified so the .72 you mention would never be allowed in the UK so the video has a lot of relevance to a British audience. For many sub12 air-gunners applying for a FAC, there is a strong debate around .22 powder burners and air ( given we maybe only allowed 1 )
The cost of shooting also comes into it as well. A tin of pellets or .22 slugs is going to be considerably less than powder ammo and is much more readily available so this comes into consideration.
Comparing shooting in the US and what is available is already covered by channels like American Air-gunners so having UK specific content is a real change.
Also for air pistols we are restricted to 6ft/lbs so the rules are even tighter.
He's just trolling, best ignored.
fac rapid is a great rifle! what complete crap
You should try air guns from America, much more powerful
LoL, you guys in the UK getting scammed pretty hard with the retail on your guns 😂😂
