Ardyss Hawley aloof? We’re just incredibly busy!! Either way, I’d love to do a “day in the life” video - I’m just super self conscious about vlogging 🤪
Yes I would enjoy a video like that to but if you want a day in the life to see what art school is like your not gonna see the full experience in one day.
Naikê Perdomo japan has these little cafes or shops where you can just hang with animals! they range from mundane animals like cats, dogs, and hedgehogs to exotics like owls and even otters! also you kinda have to be careful about which cafes you support bc a bunch neglect their animals and house them in poor conditions
Sketchbooks don't have (and usually DON'T) look like that ! I just want to tell that because some may understand the concept not as it was meant to be : there is nothing with having a messing sketchbook, making errors and have not-so-nice drawings !
There is when you are submitting it for a grade, or college admission. Edit: This doesn't mean they should be finished works. It just means don't depict an inability to learn from mistakes or general disorganization.
*c o l l e g e a d m i s s i o n* We get that not everything in a sketchbook has to be pretty, trust me. Also, it's not like every page was finished and to Meppity's liking.
That’s true, but it’s not really more about whether a sketchbook is messy or clean. As long as you’ve drawn from life, experimented with different styles and have demonstrated your observational skills through your drawings, then the sketchbook is good to go. She clearly did this really well, it’s just that most technical sketchbooks are messy since not many people can draw clean lines while watching something move and still capture it’s movement. As long as you can draw from life and show it then you’re good to go.
well this isn't just a personal sketchbook, this was to get accepted to a nice art school so if you're doing a sketchbook with the intention of using it professionally, they yea it should look like this.
I had the same reaction to this video as to your last Calarts one. When you opened your sketchbook to the first few pages, I audibly exclaimed: "Oh yeah, THAT'S why you were accepted!" Everything from your dance video drawings (which is a really incredible idea btw) to your art of different houses and architecture is so well-planed and bold. I'm wishing you all the best in college, keep being awesome!
5:00 I love the poses on this page and the way some of them are kinda unconventional so they all fit around each other. These drawings have given me so much inspo
How do you draw people and animals that are moving around? Like do you see the object you’re trying to draw and have in in your head or do you draw really fast before they move?
I watched both parts of these videos and I just have to say I love them. The way you draw and add everything into your sketchbooks are so cool and I feel so inspired after watching. I'm actually going to get myself a similar sketchbook and try something similar because I feel like I don't explore enough creatively. Thank you for the videos!!
Not much to say about this: it's fricking AMAZING! Damn, gurl! This gives me so stunning aesthetic vibes!!!! I'm gonna watch it over and over again! You frickin deserve to be accepted!!!
These two sketchbook tours have been so amazing. You really showcase all (or probably not even all) that you can do, it's so diverse. And very personal as well. Thank you so much, this has given me inspiration and ideas for what I'd like to work on for my own sketchbooks. become in

idk if you’ll see this but your videos (especially your sketchbook ones) really calm my anxiety and make me feel good and inspired. thank you😊 i love your style and the stories behind your art
I went to an art school on the opposite side of the country (SCAD), and you're seriously just _starting_ school? This looks rad! You have a great grasp on the principles and elements of art already and you've been using all kind of media. I think that whoever teaches you is going to be in for a treat because you seem really disciplined and focused. Hopefully, everything will go well for you. Art schools tend to be pretty intense, so remember to take care of yourself. It sounds like you've already had some intense classes. I jumped from zero art background into the art world. Thank God I didn't have too many drawing classes before I was able to start work with photography.
@@noellejones7164 Yeah! I miss it a lot. Hopefully I'll be able to move back there one day, but right now I'm stuck in Florida! It's a lovely place to visit!
Love seeing your artwork and illustrations! The painted images of your friend's dog, the drawings of your late rabbit and other friend's dog and the duck drawings are so cute!!
Looking at your sketchbooks give me so much inspiration and the same amount of depression, but with art you have to keep drawing or youll never be better...and it sucks lol On a separate tone Wishing you the best luck at school!

I hope you could make a video about how you make your sketches (process or something like that😂) I really get inspiration from your sketches🥰 thank you so much😊
Your sketchbooks are such perfect examples of what these submissions should be, essentially a portfolio that shows you can fill it up with polished original work. Just seen so many rejected ones that show great examples of process and the working mind of the artist, but that's not rly what they're looking for. Yours inspire me so much! I'm often wary of branching out since I've got a weird mindset that it'll 'ruin' my other strengths but you show so many different skill sets it's incredible
etherealshortie Hi! Thank you for liking my work but I think you’ve got things a little mixed up! Calarts isn’t looking for polished work - they DO want to see process art and peek I to the mind of the artist. That’s the difference between the portfolio and the sketchbook. Sure mine May look polished at a glance but it’s because I use a lot of pen and block colour :)

liked your construction worker sketch. But it's true. I married one, and we went to Hawaii for our honeymoon. Expensive airfare, hotel, rental car, food. We went to one location, got out of the car and were looking at a beautiful lush, tropical area filled with plants and flowers. The smell of flowers was amazing. I was really enjoying it, relaxing and taking it all in. And HE said, "Ya know, they should cut all this down and build CONDOS"!!! Can you believe it?? I couldn't. Oh sure, we travelled across an ocean to a tropical paradise to see CONDOS?? We could have stayed home for that. Wanted to punch him I swear
This gives me so much inspiration tbh. Im starting on my sketchbook (i guess its a little early but i want to submit two and it takes me about three months to complete a sketchbook so)
Dont be disheartened if yours isnt as neat as this one, and know that you can paint over mistakes or add sticky notes like she did. Also if you're applying to art school, have a submission sketchbook and a personal one for experimenting and where you can be more relaxed and make mistakes. Sketchbooks for personal use are NEVER as clean as portfolio sketchbooks
Lanna's Missing Link thank you for the advice! Usually my sketchbook is just a honjob mess (in a good way) but my Calarts sketchbook is giving me anxiety. I know it shouldn’t be perfect but i cant help but look at all my mistakes. Regardless, this is really encouraging. I’m so nervous. :(

If you don’t mind me asking, how did you manage to keep everything from bleeding through on this kind of sketchbook? I own one now and I find it nearly outright impossible to get anything thicker than a pen to keep to one side.
Abigail Angevine the paper in this book is 180gsm (so pretty thick) and I tried to avoid alcohol markers like copics when I could. Crayola was my friend!!
I’m not familiar with applying to art schools, but do you create these sketchbooks with the intent of sending them to art schools or do you just pick a sketchbook that you like to send?
In my experience: You make that sketchbook specifically for the art school you're applying to. Some even have themes they want to see, therefore it's hard to recycle these. BUT they dont just wanna see what you can draw in 10hrs+, they often want expressive, fast sketches for example. It can be a variety of things you need to consider before drawing, sometimes you can choose a lot and sometimes you don't have the freedom, it depends
could you make a video on how you got your start? what made you take up art & your art journey so far. Like how you learned proper technique/ what you did then vs what you do now.
