    I worked there when this was filmed. Immediately following the airing there was so much shame that they launched a whole office redesign and open office concept. Nothing like some well deserved ribbing to shake things up!!!

      @@Muzikrazy213 The "gray on gray" quip led to an attempt to add color to some office buildings. The open office redesign looked much better than the 80s and 90s cubicles, at least the one I saw in Santa Clara. Much more current, modern aesthetic, without walls. I left the company a couple of years after that so not sure how well it took hold. Friends who stayed said it didn't work out too well but it's been years since then (Conan did this bit in 2007).

      And they still let him do his shenanigans. Says a lot. And they redesigned they layout after for staff. Can't argue what conan pointed out, and Intel made adjustments. Still a hilarious remote.

      Something tells me a smart higher-up realized there was a detrimental bureaucratic culture and gave Conan the go-ahead to speak freely. That'd give decision-makers the intra-bureaucratic political mandate to start making sweeping changes...that's my guess, anyway. If the office still looks like that today then disregard.

      i would love for him to continue Conan Without Borders after he retires from the talk show (preferably never, but hope he has 3-5 years in him, can cross Johnny Carson as the 2nd longest running host in the US). But i like the interviews too, thats how most of us non Americans find out about him. He's definitely a great interviewer, as seen on his podcasts and whenever decent guests come on his show. He's a great writer, as evidenced by his time on the Simpsons and SNL, and the Late Night show, and he's the complete package of physical, absurdist and verbal comedy as evidenced by his remotes. The man's a modern comedy legend, definitely one of the top comedians in the last 30 years. America's lucky to have him, hope they show him the respect he deserves, but he's def an international treasure too.

Most of the floors are redesigned, no more greys, colored murals everywhere, cream colored cubes with lesser height which also helps to fill the office floor with a lot of natural light, cube decorations, colorful breakout regions, we even have a floor with lounges sprinkled amid open floorplan. The office looks starkly different today, so it is fun to see this video and laugh along!

    As a child of a Intel Engineer (in Cali, but different campus) this is 10000% accurate. The pink stickers on the kids were our “guest badges” and I used to think I was so cool. And the cafeteria chairs were as uncomfortable as they looked. That’s why you’d see so many people just eat at their cubicles. Plus, the “don’t move this chair” part was definitely something a lot of engineers would do.

    I was at Intel when this was filmed and air back in the day. Wow I even recognize some of the faces in the cafeteria. These cubicles look like a different world now--not sure what Intel has changed to now but I have switched to a software company in 2014 and it's been open office space for me ever since. Equally depressing. The no individuality part is also the same across tech , software or hardware.

    • @zzoinks

      That sucks. I think there'd be more creativity and innovation if everybody could express themselves. Plus, if it wasn't so serious there than people would have a nicer job (I think).
      How are the bosses at tech companies? I really love all the funny teachers I've had because everybody always laughs and still wants to learn. I think a funny boss would be a lot better than a scary or serious boss, because they could cheer everybody up and just be nice to everybody.

      @carlotta4th 4 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      Open office space is even worse than cubicles. At least with cubicles you can visually tune coworkers out, and maybe have a figurine or cute picture to make it feel slightly more custom. Open office space is just SO distracting and I'll be glad when that corporate trend finally dies down.

    Thats why he got into Harvard because This is a perfect example of logical vs creative/ critical thinking ... conan really put that guy in his place with his quick creative repartees ... Einstein was right when he said -"logic takes you from A to B but imagination takes you everywhere"............

    • @vizn9118
      @vizn9118 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Apply that logic to a company trying to do the next big thing with what they got and the former part of that quote makes a lot of sense. Honestly, without A to B thinking do you think "everywhere" is even possible given the laws of physics the human race knows about? Imagine it: Person 1 says, "Dudes, imagine all the things we could do!" and Person 2 says, "I can. But how do we get there?" Person 1 says, "I don't know. Be creative!" and Person 2 says, "Let me think on that." Stupidity is thinking that there is only one way or answer to questions that one doesn't even know to ask yet.

For reference that's the year Intel made the move to 32nm fabrication, while AMD was still setting up their 45nm design and production. It was also the first time they introduced Integrated Graphics. Props to AMD for coming a long way in just a decade though.
