One of the most informative videos I have seen. I would like to add one suggestion, learned from unhappy experience. Pack rifles, especially scoped ones, with the scopes or sights on top, so the weight of the rifle and the movement of the animal does not damage or cause the sights, scope zero to go out of alignment. The straps on the scabbard should be installed so the sewn side of the scabbard is down and the sights on the rifle are on top. It seems that the straps should go around the smooth folded side of the scabbard, like the one shown in the video, however that is the wrong way for them to be rigged. Pack them with the rifle sights and scope on top and arrive with the rifle still sighted in, barring any "adventures" along the trail! Again, this one of the very best TH-cam packing videos I have seen. I hope my suggestion is taken in the same spirit in which it was given.
leathersaddlehorse I know this is an old comment, but if by some chance you read this here’s my chip in on the subject. I’ve ridden horses in the mountains for 10 years and have been packing a rifle for 4 years (I’m 16). Daily we ride for 5 miles in rough northern Utah country and have yet to have my rifle being knocked off zero. And I pack my scope downwards using a basic leather scabbard.

Do you pack feed for the horses and mules? Or do they get enough nutrients from grazing for only a few days while on the hunt?
I am by no means an expert, but from what I have heard, mules are able to get most of their food just foraging, and take only a little from people, horses on the other hand rely much more heavily on getting food from people.
frogbear02 if I let my horses roam on some hobbles they’ll eat the shit out of some grass and even certain weeds.
Max Sanchez that will work if it is available. Even then these animals work extremely hard and need to be supplemented. Yes outfitters pack feed and manytimes hay to their remote camps. It is done at the same time they set up their hunt camps.
I have hauled many bales of hay. Seemed silly packing 2 bales per animal but times 10 head some days it added up.
Packing is a art. Telling your clients they don’t need this or that is also a Art.
ralph crosby wouldn’t it be easier to pack cubed/pellet alfalfa and grain?
Max Sanchez we packed a grain some pellets and hay for ruffage. They would also push snow off the fields and chew a little grass.
Like I said they are hard workers. They would carry 200 pounds 10 to 15 miles everyday
