NOTE Game #30 - "Final Fantasy: Chronicles" is a compilation of "Final Fantasy IV" and "Chrono Trigger". We show the clip from the Chrono Trigger side of the compilation. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Final_F...
JRPGs (Japanese RPGs) were a staple of the PS1 library - and were very popular with millions of gamers world wide. In this video we take a look at a number of JRPGs that were available on the PS1.
The precise definition of what an actual JRPG is can be a little hard to quantify precisely; while games like Final Fantasy and Breath of Fire are generally clearly understood to be JRPGs, this list has chosen to include action RPGs (such as Square's Brave Fencer Musashi) as well as tactical/strategic RPGs (e.g Ogre Battle).
As a reference, we used the following book: www.bitmapbooks.com/en-ca/pro... -- which is highly recommended reading for fans of the genre. If you're a JRPG fan, this book is a must have!

Awesome my friend. You should make a Part II. There are lots of forgotten and obscure JRPGs stuck in PS1. Keep it up 👍
Holy fudge..! They weren't kidding when they said that Attack on Titan opening song was extremely similar to the battle theme in Wild Arms 2 😧

For people saying that Game #30 isn't Final Fantasy Chronicles - please read en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Final_Fantasy_Chronicles
Yeah, that was dumb of them to put Chrono Trigger as FF game.
Also, you might want to add that warning for Tales of Eternia/Destiny 2.
Good to see Mystic Dragoon translation has been worked on.
There's a Smurai Shodown RPG? Whaaaa (nice video)
Yes👍
My kinda video Gary!
- Favorite game generation
- One of my favorite game genres, and PS1 has one of the top 2 JRPG libraries along with SNES.
- So much variety! So many different kinds of JRPG gameplay, art styles, music styles, story-telling styles....
A part of the retirement my wife and I envision is replaying through most of these old 90s RPGs. 1000s and 1000s of hours of fun... I love modern JRPGs too, and the genre has had a huge resurgence in the 2020s ... but when we're old, the 2020s action ones will be too tough on our old fingers and reaction-times haha!
I was a big fan of PS1 JRPG, guess it's time to replay some of these games again. Thanks for the vid!
You deserve better. NICE videos.
Me encantan tus vídeos gary siempre encuentro joyas cuando ya pense que los conocia casi todos con tus vídeos me doy cuenta que no se ni la mitad de todo lo que existe
El video que nadie pidio pero que todos necesitamos.
Wait, there is a RPG Maker on PS1?

You forgot a big one. Persona 2: Innocent Sin, prequel to Eternal Punishment.
DUDE! YOU caught an editing error!
I actually did have persona 2 in the video (you can see it listed in the timestamp list), but I think I uploaded the wrong version of the video!!!
Good catch. I will take this video offline and re-upload the right version shortly
Ah, wait. No - Persona 2 IS right there: 6:44
It's the timestamp list that is wrong. I'll update it.
@@GaryRetroGamerI said Innocent Sin. Eternal Punishment is the one that was released in the West. Its prequel wasn't.
Ahhhh...okay, I see.
Thank you - no I was not aware of Innocent Sin. I see it wasn't released in English until the PSP release.
This video really tried to focus mostly on the English released JRPGs (with a few exceptions). For a future deep-dive, we'll definitely spend more time looking at the more non-localized entries, like that one. Thanks for bringing it to my attention though.
I love it. Some of you JRPG fans are hardcore and catch stuff like this that us more casual fans don't catch!
I love Legend of Mana.
