Wonderful! The F801/N8008 is the reason I first stumbled on your channel as I got very interested in that camera. Bought an N8008s with the Nikon MF21 data back in good condition for a reasonable price about 4 weeks ago and got it 2 weeks ago. It is a great film camera that complements the Nikon lenses I use with my dslr Nikon D7100--also a great camera which I used to shoot short films and a feature indie comedy/thriller film. Thanks for making videos and highlighting the benefits of each camera and giving such useful tips on everything!
Mathieu Alepin - Yes indeed, it's a very capable 35mm camera - I used to use them professionally back in the day, and they never let me down. As you say, the F801/N8008(s) plus a D7100 makes an excellent team for a great all round photography capability - it's almost a seamless transition from one to the other! Thank you so much for your lovely comment Mathieu, and keep creating!
I got it for 90 euros with a nikkor lense and 6 vintage filters (haze, colours and two polarizers). It's such a nice camera it brought back the pleasure of photograpgy for me honestly
I was thrilled to pick up an F-801 body recently for the grand total of $10 CAD or about $5 GBP. Can't beat that price, it is untested but is in very lightly used condition, so I am confident it will work flawless.
tpangman wow that's a great price! I hope it's all good and ready to go for you. The most common problem I've found with them is corroded battery cage/body terminals (where people leave batteries in them for too long) - apart from that, they are tough bodies with tough metal electromagnetic shutters.
First!:) Joking, you are tempting with these film cameras,i have exactly the same lens 70-210 f4 and using them with Nikon D300,like one Nikon youtuber said ''this is cat ass lens'':) not really sure what he meant by that. Great video Drew, cheers!
Peter Zoch Yep it's a superb lens - pretty sharp and focus is good and accurate too. Definitely the cats ass! Grab an F-801 while they're cheap! Thanks for your comment Peter.
I still have mine : ) It's fantastic, workhorse of a camera. I shot thousands of pictures with it and it never failed me on the job. I will never sell it.
I bought mine for 20€, with a lens, had to clean up the battery compartment, but then it worked without any problem. It's a very capable camera at that price, forget about point&shoots. My favourite Nikon is FM2N, though.
Kalle Jönsson yeah that battery compartment corrosion is a common problem - people store the cameras away or just stop using them and those batteries leak pretty bad. FM2N is super nice.
The F801 was my first AF Camera. My F3 had been stolen, and I was humming and hawing between the F801, and the F4. I decided to get the F801, and it was a great little Camera. Combined with the SB-24, I found it to almost spot on Exposure wise, of any of my Film Cameras. It certainly was better, than the F90x and SB-26 I replaced it with.
Hi I just bought another F801s as my late dad had one and I don’t really want to use his old one I remember back I the 80s we ousted after the F4 I have one of them to mint with strap less than £ 50 bargain can’t wait to get some rolls through it 👍🏻subbed
I bought one last year and it is indeed lovely. I don't have loads to compare it with, but I'm happy with it. Only gripe is that I wish you could light the view finder up and or the info in the view finder.
Charlie Fieber - hi Charlie, thanks for your comment. I'm not quite clear on what you describe - the shooting info should be illuminated within the yellow band across lower edge of the viewfinder. Is this not showing on your camera?
@@loneshootr hey, yeh is does but only automatically when it’s very dark. Sometimes it’s would be nice to illuminate it manually. Honestly, it’s such a minor gripe
About to purchase a mint one for 30 dollars, have had the F4 and really loved it, but it was just too bulky, I’ve also shot the F3 but unfortunately it’s way too expensive for me at the moment. Can’t wait to try this one out.
Hi from UK… thanks for the F801 insight, just bought one on eBay UK… waiting for delivery in the next couple of days and can’t wait to start working with film. Can I ask… can the F801 be linked up to a studio flash???? Wondered if it’s possible? Thanks… Rich, UK
This is a beautiful camera and one of my favourites of all time. My favourite part of it is that it has, hands down, the best viewfinder of any camera I've used and has only just become surpassed by the modern electronic viewfinders today. It's huge, bright and great to look through if you wear glasses like me, you can tell the viewfinder was made during the leap from manual to autofocus lenses. On that though, I find my autofocus motor to be very scratchy-sounding, and looking online it's a common issue. I just use mine with a 50mm MF pancake lens - problem solved!
Oliver Hilton - yes indeed the focus motors are not..er..subtle. Wouldn't like to shoot a wedding in a quiet chapel with it! I've used an F-801 for so many years and I've never had a quiet one so I guess it's how they are really. You're right about that viewfinder too.
Hm very interested in one of these to offset the Nikon FA I have. Interested in older Nikon AF film bodies. Do you think they're generally reliable? I'm looking at one for sale untested, but if they're good rigs then i'll take the chance!
Grim Nicholas - I wouldn't like to be the one who recommends an F801 for reliability to be honest... they are old cameras and we can't be sure how they've been treated or stored... My personal experience has been positive with them though, they are well built and I've had no issues other than one body I bought cheap had corrosion in the battery area (quite common if they've been stored with batteries in). I cleaned the terminals with contact cleaner and it has been fine ever since. If it's super cheap - I'd risk it, but only if it's SUPER cheap.
@@loneshootr Thanks! I picked one up and it's a great little rig. Perfect exposure and feels robust as a tool. I also picked up an N90S (F90X) it's latter older brother, which is also very nice!
Yung Tricky - Ah man you asked me a question I can't answer... I never used the f601 so I can't comment with any helpful knowledge whatsoever! Personally I never - ever - use any built in flash on any camera really. I always use a separate flash unit - either on camera and bounced - or off camera. Sorry I can't be more helpful though.
Unfortunately my little (not so little) camera collection is not due to increase at the moment as I need to wait unlike this damn virus is over and I can get a face to face quote for the repair of at least three cameras. Even that is wishful thinking, film or cameras, film or cameras .... my final decision .... whisky!
Great to see you still making videos, just bought a 801 for some fun.
Adam Jones - Good stuff - enjoy it!

What lens do you like using for this camera?
My favorite reasonably priced lenses are the Micro Nikkor range of macro capable lenses. The 105mm is particularly nice.
Very nice camera! I wish there was a digital version. Wait what?

Yes sir! Got one after watching this. Can some one help me to set the aperture in M..? I don't know how to manually control it. Thanks
