Here's our attempt at a fashionably late reply: Generally people find it easier without! However it's totally possible to get a feel for throws with edge guards - it's just that, a different feel. Hope that helps.

What impact does having the edge guards have when doing the different throwbacks, does it help with the curves or make it worse or have no difference?

I just learned Tokyo throwforward because of the kentei challenge and I did not think you could get such big curves! I want to try that now
