Good review. So many of the Evercade channels just bowed down and worshipped this cart. It looks fun but it also doesn't look great so I'm happy to hear a more thorough and honest review.
The problem with this review and why I didn't score it instead of scoring it low, is that I can only base it purely off my experience and I've no idea if I was just really unlucky or if save corruption is common. I'd imagine most people who did review it too didn't get as far I did. Cathedral is definitely an underrated metroidvania game, and if it worked fine would easily be the best Evercade game
The cart is fantastic and Cathedral is a brilliant game, this port is hamstrung by a major technical issue: the corruption of save states. It's happened a couple of times to me also, and it's really putting me off sinking any more time into what is a genuinely terrific game.
The game on the cartridge itself can be corrupted, not just the save state: this happened to me, and I made a youtube video about it, and I'm not the only one. Sadly, the Evercade remains amateur hour: for me, *all* save states in _Chain Reaction_ were corrupt/nonfunctional circa one day before the whole system "bricked". I was lucky: I still had the packaging and got a refund (for the whole console). Not everyone is so lucky.

Cathedral is Evercades first native port, so it’s not being emulated. I think that’s why there are no save states.

Yea same, I've got a modded Switch and Steam Deck though so rarely use the Vita anymore. I think it was 3DS that I played cave story on
