Wish I had had this calculator when I covered my ziptiedome. But we were covering the whole thing with netting. I didn't see a calculator that would give the calculation for a whole dome. If you have one I would like to use it. We love our dome!!!!!

Thank you for being our customer! When I put netting on my geodesic chicken coop domes, it would overlap, and was never "perfect". So here is whatI found from "experience" and is what I put on our website: 11" Chicken Coop dome: 3' x 100' roll of chicken wire. 13' Chicken coop dome: 3' x 150' roll of chicken wire. 16' Chicken Dome: 4' x 150' roll of chicken wire. The ziptie domes that I have looked at on you tube have all been pvc pipe. on this video you are using 2x4 lumber to attach your panels. how are you using zip ties to build this dome?

There is an example in this video of domes with 2x4 lumber made by Gavin McArthur in Masterton, NZ, and they are not Zip Tie Domes. So, this dome calculator can be used for all types of domes. Thank you for your comment. John Hurt

Without a doubt your dome calculator is fantastic. I was only interested in using connectors for more permanent structure using to buy for material. So when this video said that it was a zip tie dome. I had to ask. Thank you for your reply.

You make it to damn hard. Just use a sheet metal true length layout. That would be so much simpler to use. Then all you need is the circumference and the height of your geodome.

I find it so complicated to line and insulate a geodesic home. OK for a greenhouse but to line, insulate and cover, the original simplicity goes out the window.

Yes, cutting 4' x 8' sheets of plywood into triangles for a geodesic dome home creates a LOT of waste and is complicated. It is better to spray the outside of a geodesic dome home frame with concrete to create a concrete outer shell, and then spray the inside with closed cell foam, then stucco over the foam on the inside. That is an easy way to build a dome without waste. Thank you for your comments. John Hurt

. Why not use that Owens Corning FOAMULAR 1/4 in. x 4 ft. x 50 ft. R-1 Fanfold Rigid Foam Board Insulation Sheathing cost 50.00, very thin but with the aircrete ~ it would have substance

Picking a different dome is not a solution for a difficult build. Obviously, this needs research to develop easy shortcuts.

That is correct. But your chances of success for your first dome covering will be much greater with a 3v dome than a 4v, 5v, or 6v dome. Thank you for your comment. John Hurt
